Cam/Distributor Keyway

My #1 piston is at compression TDC & I checked the piston itself to make sure my marks on the pulley aren't off. The keyway is either at 12:00 or is a hair off. Is it supposed to be plum or is the engine at a slight angle & would the keyway also be at an angle?
I think either my timing belt is off or the rotor shaft in my distributor needs adjustment if that's possible. The car was driven out of time a little. In any event I cannot rotate the distributor enough to get the timing right or even acceptable.

Hi Noob, welcome to the forum!

I'd have to guess the timing belt is off a tooth or two. When putting on the timing belt the side of the belt closer to the front of the car should be tight. Otherwise when the engine turns over your timing will be off. GL

the engine does sit at an angle so the key is also angled. if you were to look from the side of your car straight onto the motor, the key would be at 11oclock, thats normal.

as far as your dizzy(aka distributor) the belt may have jumped a tooth or two. if your not comofrtable with loosinening up the tensioner and adjusting it yourself, just have a shop do it for you.

Hello forum & thanks for your response; johnb16a2 & crxlvr:

The timing marks on the camshaft sprocket seem to be dead on. Could the camshaft still be off; or should I start leaning towards the remanufactured dizzy?

if your crank and your cams are all aligned at tdc, the rotor should be facing toward #1, is it?

The marks on the cam sprocket seem to be aligned at TDC and the keyway seems to be at 12:00.

The rotor does seem to be few degrees clockwise of where it should be, but it is pointing in the general vicinity of # 1.
