Tape stuck in deck

I have a 2000 Impala LS with the radio/tape/CD player. I've had no problems with the radio until a couple days ago. I use a cassette adapter so I can plug in my MP3 player (the 2000 could've used the 2006's input jack). The tape deck part of the radio just crapped out. The rest of the radio and the CD player work, but the tape deck does not. The little icon that shows that a tape is in is lit, but the eject button doesn't do jack. Pressing the tape/CD button yields the same result. I tried pulling out the radio fuse, and that didn't do anything but reset the clock. I have two things I'm considering doing, one of them being a last resort. I've been told to pry the tape out with a butter knife, but I'm afraid that'll damage it. My last resort would be to open up the dash and take out the radio to look at it closer.

Anyone else heard of this?
