A couple of questions

I have a 1995 SC2 with an automatic. I am having a few mechanical difficulties and I'm wondering if anyone has any answers. I have a ticking noise in my engine. Every now and again it stops. I've been told that the fuel injectors need to be changed, but then I was told that the valve stems could be bad. The injectors make more sense because the engines performance slacks of a bit. Also, my transmission seems to get stuck in gear as it warms up. What could these 2 problems be?

First welcome to the forum. :)
I would start with some plain old preventitive maintenence. First run some fuel injector cleanor thru a couple of tankfulls. I like chevron with techron. If you are close to 100,000 miles change the fuel filter.
Second, change the transmission filter and fluid. Very easy on these cars.
Have you had the ECTS (coolant temperature sensor) changed. When the one on my daughter's 96 SC2 went the engine would race and it semed as if it was stuck in gear. The ECTS were updated from resin tips to brass tips due to consistent failures. A real easy fix under $20.00. Let me know I can get you a link to a great "how to" article. :2cents:

I could be wrong (happens all the time, lol) but when the ingine is cold and especiall in a cold climate, doesn't the computer keep the transmission in lower gears longer until both the tranny and engine come up to temp? I know it's the middle of summer, it's 95 degrees out, but until the engine warms up, my car shifts hard and idles high until the temp comes up (about a minute in this weather). Let me know what you think. P.S. My Saturn is a 97 SL-1, and as far as I know these cars all share a lot of parts...

what it really comes down to is that the saturn auto transmissions are a waste of time and money just swap in a manual trans

isn't it more than a "simple swap"?

its a pretty easy swap to do you just have to have the parts and tools i have a 93sl2 it had a auto.i put a 94sl1 5-speed/w a phantom grip limited slip diff.shifter/shifter cables slave cyl. clutch pedal,ECU bypassed the neutral safety switch and found the wires to the reverse light and spliced the in you also need the trans mount from manual.I had a 92sl1 manual but blew up the trans because of the weak pin in the stock diff. so i welded the pin in the new diff./w phantom grip lsd thats where i got most of the parts to swap. looking for sl1 and sl2 parts i got [email protected]
