89 civc hatchback, 1.5 liter, 4 speed trans. Hey there, I've obtained a 5 speed transmission from a 90 crx. There's no marking that I can find, unless I don't know where to find them. 2 questions, 1) will the transmission, clutch(when buy new kit) and cv joint all bolt up to my current ride? 2) How do I find out if the 5 speed transmission is any good short of tearing it down?

Thank you, Joe

I only know 2 languages, 1 is American Sign Language (I'm Deaf) and 2nd is English. What was said above post, look like pig latin mix with greek to me. Unless I have Pink Floyd music blasting in background while suckin on a bong that's as big as lamp, there's no way I can make out on what was just said. Joe

I think he's forien, he allways types like that. Translation:

"Ok, question one. All “D” series transmissions should bolt up to “D” series blocks. Question two. There’s two ways to go about this – one: you can slap it in and pry, or two- you can not drag around the bush and just do the rebuild."

By the way, I think you have to change the shift linkage to make it work, not possative though.

shift linkage will be fine. what model is your car, if its a STD then you will have to change the hubs. The clutch and flywheel should work fine, unless you want to freshen it up a bit and put new stuff in.

you don't need to change the axels, the 4 speed ones will work fine. all you Need is the tranny, if you use the 5 speed axels you need to change you hubs to dx, Si ones like mentioned above.

I got online to look up the pricing on clutch kit for my car. When I decided to reference check between the two car... I find that the 89 honda hatchback use 7 7/8 clutch with 4 speed, and a 90 crx use 8 inch clutch with 5 speed. I am not sure, it's my daily driver, I have to know if everything will work before I do anything. Thanks Joe

ok...you have a standard model civic hatchback....you need hubs axels the tranny and a clutch kit....you can use either si or dx hubs...but my reccomendation would bo to get ex hubs "4 door civic" because the brakes are slightly bigger...if you try to use the standard model hubs and axels it WILL not work...the splines on the inside are different...standard models have 23 splines and i believe the si's ex's dx's and hf's all have 28 splines....dont quote me on that tho.
hope this helps

The splines on the tranny side are the same for all models, it's the hub side that is different for the STD model. I know because I had a 4spd tranny from a STD in my DX and i replace the axles with DX ones and it went in fine. Use the axles from your car and the clutch that goes with the tranny.
