I HATE my Tib!

Yep...that's right...I can't stand my Tib now. Why? Because supposedly last year in the summer of '04 my synchronizers were fixed on 3rd gear. Well....since this past Christmas 3rd gear has been coming out of gear on its own. So whenever I shifted into 3rd gear, it would pop out on its own every now and then. But the problem persisted and got worse. Now....keep in mind that I don't have $700 that Hyundai wants from me to get this problem fixed. So what does a poor white boy do? Drives it and tries his best to save $$ to get it fixed. Months down the road...he still does not have it because of other bills and lousy pay at his job.

So...I am now stuck with my crappy Tib and when I shift into 3rd gear, it will not....absolutely will not accept 3rd gear. I'm assuming the synchro's are messed up and the gears themselves are so messed up, that it won't even take. All I even get is a bunch of grinding noise. I have to skip 3rd gear and shift into 4th gear and when I do that....it grinds just a bit b/c I skipped a gear. It's really making me --> :swear: :angryfire Should I have the transmission rebuilt or buy a new one? I guess I'll have to get a $10,000 loan or something and just get everything wrong with that hunk of junk fixed. I know one thing....I'd like to kick the girl who drove it before me...b/c I sure as heck didn't do this to the car. I think I'll just stick with automatics next time round I buy a car.

I used to have an auto tib... second gear started to slip but Hyundai replaced the whole transmission for me for free.
Try to find a junkyard with a tib in it and maybe rip out the tranny from there (highly unlikely but still a chance) buy a new trans from ebay (I've found whole engines for 600 I'm sure you can find a tranny for a decent price) or just bite the bullet for awhile till you can pay the $700 and don't shift into 3rd... you can easily get by skipping 3rd gear you've obviously done so for awhile now

Only auto trans that gave me a problem was an '86 Audi Coupe. Basicly, the entire car was a POS.

No....it's not that I'm getting by skipping 3rd gear w/ no problems. See....when I shift straight from 2nd to 4th gear on the road....I get a grinding when I shift into 4th gear. Not a whole bunch....but just enough to grind and I'm afraid to mess up 4th gear now.

Who in the world is selling a tranny for 75 bux on eBay? must be a POS cheap o tranny not worth a hoot....

i guess i can look for one in a junk yard or on eBay though...thanks for the help guys. appreciate it

How much does a manual transmission cost?

New : $ (xxxx amount of dollars)
Used: $ (xxxx amount of dollars)
Re-Built: $ (xxxx amount of dollars)

Can someone give me estimates on all 3 mentioned above? And I don't see any on eBay...only automatics and I don't want an auto tranny. I'd like to stick with my 5 speed tranny...and I don't need any generic @$$ junk transmissions either....just OEM.

Thanks :icon16:

Autos break easier and more expensive to fix, true.
However, manual could be easier to break in the hands of a wrong driver.
I got my synchro a bit messed up practicing hill & toe, and a little bit of forced downshift. And I'm not fixing it yet.
If your synchro is not totalled, it may work with a little softer clutching

what are you talking about?!?!!
how are autos weaker than manuals...
about 90% (or higher) high hp drag cars have automatic transmissions...
they break alot less than manuals

As I said, manuals are easier to break in the hands of a wrong driver, and many out there who think they know do not have slightest idea how to *properly* drive a manual.

Why would circuit drivers drive manual instead of autos if autos are faster? Manual is faster in right hands and that's a fact not to be challenged.

No offense, but autos are for girlies.

One more thing, autos are electronically controlled, which means a driver do not have to control shift timing, less chance of shifting at a wrong time, no chance of over revv, which means it could break less in an extreme condition such as in drag racing.

High HP dragster with sophisticated electronics tuned for the specific purpose cannot really be compared to daily driven tibs tuned for normal folks.

What the hell is that? Autos are for girlies??????? u sound like u can handle any manual transmission they throw at u, id like to see you drive a circut car, you'd f it up real nice....... I can tell your a noob, because u really have no idea of what your talking about, take a 5 speed automatic and match it up against a 5 speed manual, the auto will win, WHY??? because automatic transmissions can shift EXACTLY at the right moment..... I myself drive a manual transmission, not because i think Autos are for "Girlies" but because i think its a fun drive we have some members here with about 200 time more knowledge here then what u have Nisco being one of them, so your little noobish comments just really pissed me off. If you want to "ACT" cool go to a honda forum...theyd love to have u

ok... ok... take it somewhere else (not the honda forum please... too many people there that don't know alot as is. :-d)

you can get short shift kits for autos to make them shift more aggressively. i prefer an auto because i am normally not going to be racing people and i prefer to be able to pay more attention to the road (and the stupid suv drivers that infest them) instead of my tach to make sure i don't overrev.

It's to each their own, Vip (my friend) has an manual celica gts that runs 14's... the autos run 15's.... i see some of your points, but at the same time you should consider the fact that aftermarket stuf has increased 10 fold since fnf. There's alot more out there to make a geo faster than an infiniti.

You people do not know how to take an opposite opinion and you can stay that way and be ignorant.

unintelligible?
unintelligible - poorly articulated or enunciated, or drowned by noise; "unintelligible speech"
uncomprehensible (http://www.thefreedictionary.com/uncomprehensible), incomprehensible (http://www.thefreedictionary.com/incomprehensible) - difficult to understand.
So what is that you don't understand? Geezz, talk about ignorance...

Okay people, cool it. Enough of the name calling. It not necessary and I will not tolerate it. Both sides spoken their peace. Now not to defend anyone, but I do believe mjsheen is from Korea, so his spelling and grammer cannot be judge so accurately. Aside that, we are here to learn and discuss all there is about our vehicles and others as well. We can either agree or disagree with a view, I agree that manuals in the wrong hands can be destroyed if the driver is not experienced as mjsheen said, but I also disagree that automatics are for girlies. Its just an opinion, and not based on fact. What is a fact is that there are numerous automatics that have outperformed manuals.

Many folks believe that automatics are less responsive and wasteful on gas, yet some of the models that have the TipTonic gearbox is the best of both worlds, Audi, BMW, Porsche, and yes even Hyundai among others have it. In a nutshell, the manual gives you more control and revving/shifting pleasure and its a different expierence alltogether. But to me its a bit of an overkill driving around in the city, but thats just me.

Bottom line is the manual vs automatic debate has been talked about for ages and will continue to be debated among auto enthusiasts in the future. Some feel strongly on which one is better, but to plain out and say its girly is a disservice to us auto drivers.

About that autos for girlies comment, I apologies to those who are irrelavant. It was meant for those with hard heads and kept on making insulting replies. What I meant by "roads are not always straight" is that manual transmission can be faster on curved roads with the driver having full control. Drag is not the only kind of driving out there.
