Hi,
Really hoping someone can help me on this one.
I have a 1995 Saturn SL with a very srange rattling noise coming from the engine only when the car is not moving. The rattling noise goes away when the accelator is pressed. So basically whenever the car is idling or been driven really slow without much accelator is when the rattling noise appears.
Also when the car is moving or in Park Mode the rattling noise goes away. I cant figure out what it is either can the mechanic.
Also when you put this car in reverse you have to wait a few seconds for a jolt before it seems to slip into gear - anyone know why?
Thx for all your advice

reverse slam - http://www.saturnfans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23670
the rattle may be this guy - http://www.saturnfans.com/photos/showphoto.php/photo/15888/
or one of your motor mount may be bad, most likey the top motor mount(top of engine, passager side) many times you can visually see the rubber in the mount is broken/rotted out.

Thx for your reply,
I should have also mentioned in my post that the rattling noise also goes away when the accelator is pressed. So basically whenever the car is idling or been driven really slow without much accelator is when the rattling noise appears.
Regarding the link to the firewallrattle image, where abouts is it located on the car, as you can guess I am no expert when it comes to cars :-)

its on the right(passiger) side of the engine near the strut tower(big thing in the corner with three nuts ontop.
your disciption of the rattle leads me to think the mount is the problem.

Did you ever solve this problem? I'm curious, because I have the exact same problem.
