I have just received a 92 sable LS from a relative who died (it has the bigger engine, 3.8, I think ). It has only 60,000 miles on it and initially appeared to be in good shape, however, it seems like random things are beginning to go wrong. Most recently, I had to replace one of the brake calipers, the waterpump, and the engine belt - within four days ! I was wondering if anyone can tell me what kind of problems to expect with this car...I heard if the transmission lasts 100,000 miles you're lucky.

If anyone out there has knowledge of this car and can help me make an informed decision about whether I should put money into the car and try to hang on to it, or just give up and try to sell it for whatever its worth I would really appreciate it. Thanks !

its not worth more than $1500. I would drive it until something major goes wrong and then sell it for scrap.

yeah, I agree with drdisque. The cars basically worth nothing. Like he said, drive it until it breaks down and costs too much to repair then scrap it. The 3.8's have the famous head gasket that can blow at any time also.

I have a 92 Sable 3.0L and it is the wrost car I have owned. This car sucks. Undersized suspension, and I have had alignments but continues to go thru tires and the front end is bad alignment. Leaking oil pan gasket and going thur starters because of oil leaks. I am trying to replace the oil pan gasket. Water pump did not last long.

my 93 has 182 thousand on it on original tranny etc... waterpumps are common, as well as what i figure was your cerpetine belt. those things wear out... as far as the caliper goes... that means that you wore through your brake pad and started braking on the rotor with your caliper itself..... so thats your fault! :banghead: i did the same thing when i got my car... my mom didnt take good care of it.... anyway. the rumors are mostly true.... the car usually didtn' go that far but the ones that started over 100 would last forever.... with proper maintenance. the 3.8 seems to be the luckiest one.. my family has had ours for 11 years now... so it can't be all bad... let me know if you have any questions. good luck
