What is the best muffler to go with if Ravin is not availble? Could people list what they own for mufflers and what they think of the sound? Links to sound clips would be great! BlazerLT, love the sound of yours, unfortunetly it is very hard to find a midas dealer that can get a ravin muffler and some actually tell me that they will not just sell me a muffler so a custom place can install it and bend the pipes for a dual exhaust. So if you have a flowmaster or a magnaflow or a ravin or whatever else is out there please let me and the rest of know what you think. I am not replacing my muffler for the hell of it either, my muffler is shot and if I am going to spend the money it might as well sound better too. Thanks everyone really appreciate it.

I've seen some posts about Ravins not being made any more. I was at Midas yesterday and they haven't heard of any supply problems and have plenty in stock. They did say that lots of people are getting tickets after installing the Z33's.

Weird, when I call I get oh sorry I can't get you one or oh sorry we can't just sell them without installing them. Just a pain

I don't need a new muffler yet but I might get it put on just in case the rummors are true!

Get the one with the most straight through flow.

Flow40's have a whole bunch of deflectors that slow the flow down and hog performance for sound.

BlazerBoyLT98

I have heard that. So what are my other options? I have heard the magnaflow and I think they just don't have much sound at all, just a little louder then stock, doesn't seem worth it to me.

No sweat I thought I missed something. I was planning on replacing it when the muffler went but I might speed up the timetable on it so I don't miss out on a cheap, great-sounding and free-flowing unit!

I know what I have on my ride, and I know how it sounds - I will have sound clips up sometime this weekend. It was a sub $100 setup to get too. The question is, do I make the recordings all professional like, raw digital all the way, or just dump what I got... Hmmm, I think I will make a production of it. ;)

I just had a flowmaster exaust system put on mine a while back and it sounds good. It has a low metalic rumble at idle and when you get on it it reminds me of an old Z28 Camaro. It doesn't blast your ear drums when your driving but when you stomp the gas people turn there heads and usually look surprised that its a Blazer and not a sports car. :grinyes:

If you want good sound with a low price just get a drill and put a hole or two in your muffler right where the muffler and exaust pipes meet. Should you hate the sound you can just replace the muffler which you said you might do anyhow so no loss. If you like the sound then problem solved. I have never done it for sound purposes but I have had to put holes in my exaust before because of low flow and it made the car sound a bit louder without having cops knocking on my window with a ticket for disturbing the peace.

Just an idea you might want to try.

Naw, having my exhaust leaking on purpose would sound like crap.

There is a sound difference between a leaking exhaust and a good sounding muffler.

They (Flowmaster Delta 50) have a lot of internal deflectors that hinder exhaust flow.

Anything Flowmaster has to flow better than a stock muffler. Is the 50 quieter than the 40?

Blazerboy1287
08-18-2005, 11:34 PM
I don't know... I went to the performance exhaust shop near my house, and they offer Flowmaster (I agree with BlazerLT, I don't want a bunch of deflectors slowing down the exhaust flow), IMCO, and v-force (from Flo-Pro) Anybody heard anything good or bad about these?

BlazerLT

Don't assume that.

Flowmasters really hinder exhaust flow for sound.

Flowmasters really hinder exhaust flow for sound.

The 50's are not as loud as the 40's. I have the 40 on my blazer and there are alot of people who think it has a v8. It isn't loud enough to get any tickets, but when you step on it you can tell. It also upped my gas mileage by 2 miles to the gallon and that was before the CIA, which didn't help gas mileage any. I have always swore on Flow Master though, it is the same exhaust I has put on my mustang. Sounds great, they last long, and in my opinion don't hog power. Just me though, it was better then the Flo-Pro I had on my mustang before, both sound and flo.

BlazerLT
08-19-2005, 12:08 PM
You can claim that it improved sound, but you have no proof that the flow 40 improved flow.

Flo-pro or Ravin

mitchdakid
08-19-2005, 10:10 PM
Your right BlazerLT, I can't prove it helped flow, but when you have a car like that you can feel everything that helps it, with a blazer it isn't going to make a difference anyways.

After installing the flowmaster he gained 2 mpg.... Logic would tell you it DID improve the flow lol.

I have the 50, gained substantial response and acceleration over my old thrush, even leveled out the idle a bit. and the stainless internal components are going to be on ol blaze for a while to come.

A word to the wise should be sufficient, but drilling holes in one's exhaust system may sound harmless, but you'd be surprised how many brain cells get lost doing such a thing. CO1 is not user-friendly, and just sitting at a stoplight can be poison. The general idea and purpose of an exhaust system is to expel the offending fumes to the REAR of the vehicle, and away from the driver. Noise redux came later, albeit with good reason :lol2::2cents:

i have a flo pro, and even though blazer lt hates me for not being able to get a sound clip, when midas wouldnt sell me a raven outright, i went somewhere else and the guy said they were the competitors for flow and sound, and it sounds awsome, and if you own a 98, replace your cat, they are knowen to go/be bad on that modle year

anything but flowmaster, unless you want sound as a measure of proformence, and yes blazer boy you are 100% right, they are just being lazy my buddy owns a 98 and the guys who did his (did my p/u also) ran every thing so when he loweres it, there arent any clearence issues over the rear axel, they at midas are being lazy asses, if the pipe doesnt come prebent to them, they wont mess with it

All they have to do is install an extension.

They must really not want your money.

After this crap, I wouldn't give it to them anyways.

I don't have one yet but I was in contact with a sales guy through e-mail and he was going to sell me one for $47.50 and that including shipping in the lower 48. Not a bad deal if you ask me. I believe he said it was a vforce 3

Okay, I don't have sound clips yet, but here is the summary of what I have gotten on my exhaust...

I got a 3-inch pipe job

V-force Exhaust muffler

Chrome tip

The truck sounds beeeeeauuuutiful, and I will work on sound clips soon

the whole setup plus installation cost a lil' under $200 at my local muffler shop.

I would recommend the v-force as I have been getting better power and mileage, and the sound is deep and smooth. Will have sound clips soon!

The one thing that caught my attention is the throttle flutter at the end of the clip.

Almost sounded like you have a vacuum leak.

Have you replace the cpi injector?

Negative, and the vacuum leak sounds like the same thing that could be causing the vent problem... Is that possibly fixed by replacing the cpi injector, or is that another issue altogether? I've only had this car for about 3 months or less.

You have to get your vacuum lines checked.

The one going to the vacuum ball is the one I would check and trace them all the way around the engine and make sure they are all connected properly.

I see that loping idle is probably a vacuum leak.

Just a quick personal opinion here. I had the Z55 Ravin' Muffler installed on my 95 LT 4x4 and it sounds premium, not too loud, but a nice very free flowing deeper sounding muffler, thats well worth the dough! If you can can ahold of a Ravin' Z55, I highly Reccomend it!

Where exactly can I get a Flo-Pro or Ravin? I went into 3 local Midas shops, and all 3 said the same thing: "Ravins gone out of business and we can't sell their exhaust anymore." Then I go online to get this highly acclaimed Flo-Pro, and the web-site won't even give me a place to go to get a Flo-Pro installed. I tried to begin all my performance upgrades about a month ago, and I can't even get the first step down! I just want to know WHERE???

Don't look just for midas shops, check in your yellow pages for a shop called something like "Performance Exhaust" or "Performance Muffler Shop" I couldn't find just a flo-pro, make sure you ask for V-force! That's the name most places recognize.
