Have you guys ever seen those rediculous "sport compacts" driving around(often a civic or integra or celica) with the stupid exhaust big enough to launch grapefruits and sounds like someones ass? Yep. That's a ricer. These idiots put body kits, lights, wheels, and all kinds of stupid dress up stuff on their car and think that they are now fast. Well I've got news:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/flatlander757/Misc/notfast.jpg
These people put tons of money into making it look fast when, in fact it is a slow piece of shit on 4 wheels. There have been countless times that I have been at a redlight and one of these idiots will roll up next to me thinking they are hot stuff. Sometimes they'll rev on me trying to anticipate a race. After making sure it is indeed their car, and not my rectum making the noise, I will maybe rev back to let them hear the deep roar of an American V8. Then I will commence to rip them a new one when the light turns green.
These fools don't realize: most of the stuff that they add to their car makes it SLOWER!! Here are some examples: Audio(added weight), Wing(when installed on a FWD car... this is because it puts weight on the NON-drive wheels, thus taking it off of the drive wheels, making it loose traction where they need it, and NO! They do not help keep the rear end planted on a FWD car, FWD cars understeer because of the laws of physics, they will not spin out), Neon underglow(added weight), bigger wheels(more rotating mass/is the same as getting a lower gear ratio, killing torque), and Carbon fiber hoods(when installed on a FWD car, it takes weight off of the drive wheels, moving the weight bias towards the back where it shouldn't be on a FWD car).
For another thing, these idiots are using the wrong car to the wrong application. If you want to drag race your car, they in more cases than not, an American V8 is the best bet to go, or at least something RWD w/ a turbo if it has to be Japanese. The only car I've ever been beaten by was a 1970 Chevelle 454 SS. It was the sweetest car EVER. There is something wrong with people if they are having trouble beating a BONE STOCK 1994 Z28 with 193,000 MILES.
American V8s are usually the best way to go for drag racing. Why you ask? TORQUE. Here is a dyno graph from a 1.8L VTEC:
http://www.g-speed.com/pbh/b16a/dyno-michael-yepes.JPG
And here is a graph of a Camaro(not sure if its an LT1 or LS1, but the important thing is the shape of the curves):
http://www.madz28.com/cars/thannum.gif
HP is just a derivitive of torque and RPM. Increase torque and it will affect the HP. You will not find satisfactory torque in a little 4 banger. When it comes to stump-pulling torque, its hard to beat a V8.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/flatlander757/Misc/1.jpg
Hondas are meant to be grocery getting economy cars. Not a freaking drag car. I have nothing against using an economy car for point A to point B driving, but if you expect to race people, I'd like to say this to you:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/flatlander757/Misc/homo.jpg
Unless you put some serious time and money into an engine swap/turbo for your ECONOMY car, then, don't think you're fast.
If I happen to meet your "ricer" at a red light, then rest assured:

Your an idiot. You have your opinions and so called "ricers" have theres. Not everyone wants a Camaro or a Stang and not every one wants to drag race. These Hondas and Celicas are bought buy kids who are having fun. So what if they had carbon fiber or big rims is it affecting your day? There is a huge market right now for this kind of stuff so many companys are feeding it to us and people are buying it. No I dont agree with alot of the things kids do to there Hondas but you know what to that person the car looks great. Have you ever been to a race with sport compacts? They are racing other sport compacts or cars in there same class. Also no need to give us all a break down of how HP and torque work. This has been an ongoing battle for years and we have heard it all so this is just another useless post of garbage.

The thing is,and I can only speak for myself,I don't hate ricers, I just think it is funny(and somewhat pathetic)how they put all this money, time and effort into something that is pointless. Some foriegn cars can be nice looking and very fast if they are done properly. It's the '87 Civic's that put coffee cans on the muffle and stickers they got in the mail and think it is cool that I find strange.

i dont have a problem making your car look good. i've actually got a part of me that likes the body kits and aftermarket wheels and stuff. its when people think that appearance modifications add horsepower that pisses me off.
no shit this is a useless post. i put it in stress relief forum because i dont expect anyone to give two shits.

pfft, camaros and mustangs both turn as well. with some minor suspension work and some time behind the wheel they handle hella good. in the car comparisons forum someone stated that an LS1 Camaro could handle as well or better than a 240SX both with comprable mods.
if someone puts all of them bits on an american car, is it a ricer?
yes it is. i have a pic of a local one as well. no for a body kit or whatnot, but the false badging of a car(and stupid in general i might add). behold the Camaro Z82:

j/k about that, but for the most part, its not people on these forums that rice stuff out(as far as i have seen). its more just people locally that think its cool.
on a side note, i kind of misdirected this, but its the improper application and lack of brains these idiots who usually happen to have "rice" that think they are fast.

also, i do not have a problem with a fast honda. my neighbor owns(owned? havent talked to him in a while/seen it in a while) an older civic with a completely gutted interior, no pass. seat, no radio or electronics, a built N/A B16 or B18(dont remember what he told me), and showed me a 12 second timeslip. it seemed pretty impressive to me.

I know I am not fast I drive a gas conservative 4 banger Honda civic. My car may appear to be fast with the modifications I have done. I guess its all a matter of how you act and drive and the image you give to other people. I'm in it for the show aspect not the race aspect. Respect is key as well. When I see a nice car either it be domestic or import I give a flash of the lights a honk or a wave just to show I appreciate what they have done form an automotive enthusisests point of view.

yeah im respectful to people when i want to race. unless they're an ass to me first. i give everyone a thumbs up after we race. and i never actually do anything to start a race. i wont honk or do anything. ill just kind of look at them with a weird glance and if they rev or something then ill return the favor.

Ah the "ricers". I absolutley love ricers!! They have done nothing for me except make me money. In my small town there are only like 2 body shops and those are strictly collision shops they will not do any type of "custom" work. But, I have a buddy that lives like a hour away that owns his shop and is able to hook me up with almost a 50% discount on any part I could ever want. So when I was in High School word got out that I knew my shit and I had all these kids coming and asking if I could do this and that for them. So throughout my senior year of high school I made about between $20-$30K of off turning these kids beat ass honda's and whatnot into halfway decent looking cars. Only problem was ever car I worked on absoltley had to have some sort of an totally obnoxious wing on the back and a cherry bomb muffler. Easy money for easy ass work. If only I didn't feel so bad about destroying the car world I would have continued this line of work. Peace-

Oh man oh man. I live in the 757 area code as well (up on the north side of the HRBT), and there are LOADS of people with grapefruit launchers/fart cannons that, judging from their crappy acceleration when they floor it, have done nothing to their vehicles to actually increase their performance.
I saw the funniest thing the other day. A 1997 Malibu with a body kit and oversized rear wheels - on a FF car! Now, I suppose it is technically possible that they had somehow converted their 'Bu to be an FR, but I seriously doubt it. The body kit was poorly done, too. Now, I'm with flatlander and brody in that I respect someone with a nice-looking car, but big rear wheels on an FF car is just retarded.
As for speed . . . I'm selling my 'Bu (yep, that's mine in my sig), and with my roughly 8k price range, I could easily opt for a used Camaro, Firebird, or Mustang. But because I'm in college, have no scholarships, and make $7 an hour, I'm going to get a gently-used Civic. I know it won't be fast, but there's a saying: all things come to those who wait. Someday, when I can afford the gas and insurance for a fast car, I'll get one. But until then, I'll just have to sate myself by carving corners and getting good gas mileage.
I've only just realized that my post is almost completely lacking in actual content. Uh, yeah. People who add weight to their car and think that makes it faster are dumb. :2cents:

With minor minor engine work and some time with a wrench, a "ricer" (as you so eloquently put it) can run pretty fast.
Unbeknownst to you, 240SX's aren't that great at handling. S13's suffer from a lot of understeer. Moreso than my FWD MX6.
You're starting another stupid battle that has no end. Everyone has their preferences. It's not always about getting to the end of a quarter mile fast. It's not always about GOING fast. Car enthusiasts are car enthusiasts, whether they like to make them look wild and unique or like to make them blow by exotics.. on the strip or on the course.
You're not saying anything new by flexing 8 cylinders. No one cares.

One thing that I think is just funny is how many of the older Honda's I see that think they're car is the shit when its slower than hell and they're constantly having they're foot down all the way on the gas just to go fast, or look like it.

Except here's probably what you're going to end up doing. You're going to get tired of waiting and saving up another $8k for a mustang, instead you'll save up $3k for an engine swap for your Civic, and you'll be happy. It will be much faster than it was before, and it will get low 30s mpg vs. high 30s mpg than it did before. Oh and you're also going to reply to my post swearing that you will never do that.

If you want to drag race your car, they in more cases than not, an American V8 is the best bet to go, or at least something RWD w/ a turbo if it has to be Japanese.
i know you can make imports fast, i honestly think i would trade my camaro for a TT 300ZX if i could have the chance.

Do ricers honestly think they have a chance against anything? "Oooh look at me, I have ugly-ass chrome taillights and a Wal-Mart body kit and I can kick your ass." Please, people. He does it again so I hold in the clutch and go to about 4500rpm. Now my Chevelle is very, very loud and you couldn't even hear his wine anymore. All of a sudden i hear a big POP and smoke from his hood. The dumbass blew his motor. I just started laughing,I was dying. If im sitting at a light and a really nice looking car pulls up and it looks pretty quick , I might rev a little at him just to see how fast his/her car really is. I mean come on, im in a V8 truck. If a Evo or something pulls up and i rev at him.....either im completely retarded, actually wanna race, or just wanna see him take off. Since i dont have a super/turbo-charger in my truck ill just see how fast they can take off for now.

everyone has beef with honda owners. I'll admit, I've got a 92 civic hatch dropped on 17s and its got a loud exhaust(I let a friend borrow it and he bottomed out). I do have Euro tails (they are black, not chrome) and I drive like a bat out of hell. It's what I like. So what? If you dont like it, ignore me. Believe me, no love lost. Its as simple as that. Besides, when I want to drag, Grampa's got a Chevy Biscayne with an 8-71 on top of a 509 that makes 800HP on pump gas. Suck on that :P

Whenever a newbie starts a thread like this I just assume it's some 15 year old kid trying to impress someone.
Whenever someone with a few hundred posts under his belt comes out with a post like this, I just assume it's because his ass just got handed to him by a Honda.
The Mullet wearer vs. the Fart Can owner is a pretty tired arguement, all of the cliches in the original post are old and the humor is used up. Welcome to five years ago.

What's bad about being a ricer is you have a very high risk of being pulled over by a cop. I work at night, and every cop I see during the night is pulled over, lights flashing, behind some riced-out Civic, who was probably trying to race somebody who obviously didn't care. If you only put half a set of wheels or half a body kit and a cheap fart can on your car, cops will notice you, and not in a good way.

the ting that pisses me off is that the ricers slap a bod kit and a titanic wing and a glasspack muffler that looks like a hemorid and then act like they are the shit. These guys used to act tough in the parking lot when i was in school but then would gett pissed and flick me off when they got torn a new one by my '88 5.0 firebird. now i have a 240 sx and the same guys wanna be my best man, at least i can respect anyone no matter what car they drive...
well as long as their not stupid.

... besides, why spend 10g on a honda when you could by a 3000gt vr4 and it would be faster and not break down, reminds me of a friend that spent about 5grand on a pos 89 cav. and it wasnt faster and dtill looked the same all the while i told him not to waste his money and get a z or something. also i hate hondas because most people that drive them are young assholes with self-esteme issues (but i can respect a prelude)> peace out

you know this thread is by far the stupidest thread ever. Anyone here who calls a car rice is just a moron. The only thing that is rice is the owner of the car, not the car. You know so what if someone likes body kits and big wings. Its there car, they can do what they want to it. Its funny that if someone puts an aftermarket part on a car, its almost instantly considered rice, but if it comes from the factory like that, its cool.
Take the 2000-2003 Mustangs, ever take a close look at the hood scoop? Omg whats that? Its completely 100% non functional. But i dont hear people calling it rice. If i put a 100% non functional hood scoop on my car, people would call me rice. But since it came from the factory like that, its okay. . .
Lexus 300, Chevy Equinox, RX8, eclipse all those cars come from the factory with clear tail lights, i dont see people calling them rice. But if you put them on your car yourself, your all of a suddenly a ricer.
Its funny cause alot of people think my cavalier is rice cause i try and race it. I love the look that a mustang driver gives me when i rev him at the light. They look and laugh at the fact that my puny 4 cylinder would dare take on there mighty v8 factory rice mustang. Then we race and they just stare jaw dropped as i pass them.
Rice is an attitude not a car.

Rice is an attitude not a car.
I'd say you hit the nail on the head.
I don't consider just a hood or just lights "rice." I'd say once it has any 2-3 out of ginormous body kit, fart trumpet exhaust, UbEr NeaTO taillights, and a wing that rivals those of fighter jets, I consider it rice. But yes attitude is the defining factor. If you own the ugliest, loudest, slowest, most tasteless riced out thing you call a car, but dont expect to win against anybody, I don't consider it really rice. Rice is the idiot kid in what used to be grandma's cavalier that has a 2 ft wing the size of a queen-sized matress, a horribly tasteless body kit, an exhaust large enough to smuggle a few mexicans across the border, and you rev it to 4000rpms at every stop light. and they also drive with one hand on the steering wheel leaned all the way back so their wrist is pointed straight up and they are blasting music noone should have to listen to.

i dont see anyone calling the Mustang Saleen a rice car cause its got a ginormous body kit, S10 Extreme has a body kit, Roush Focus has a nasty body kit. It pisses me off that people say ohh the factory made it so its not rice.

yeah, but on the other hand the saleen is pretty quick. i dont know times on the s10 but i think those are stupid anyways. and i wont even get started on the focus. i know other people may not, but i consider it rice.

yeah, scions are the most homo-erotic things to ever come from a factory, but like i said, it is the personality of the driver. i mean if you break down twice a day and do the 1/4 in just under 20 sec then stop acting like the big man.
but i also think some stuff from the factory can be called rice, however to me it all depends on if it actually looks good (granted that can mean different things) but there is now way anyone thinks a ten foot wing made of galvanized steel with the screwws still showing looks good...

I had a 99 si, I loved the car. I was going to add a few modifications to the engine. Maby go out to race, but only reason I kept it was because I got it from my brother FREE. I was going to invest 5 grand into the car with mods to the engine. Also Ive wanted a mustang all my life thoe im only 16 and I can't afford one with insurance and the expense of the car. So I took my brothers old car and tried to make into something. If you can get what im saying ( sorry 4 in the morning and im tired) which is that Tuners were first started to be the poor kids wana be V8s. Once again im sorry if you dont get what im saying...

I know what you mean but you gotta work for it. I work at Sonic for $6/hour. I'm 16 also. I pay about $180/m for insurance on my Z28. It's hella worth it :grinyes: I can't modify it as rapidly as I would like, but I'd rather do it slow and have it done right the first time. My goal is 400+ RWHP by the time I leave high school :naughty:

Same.
Anyways to the main topic. I have seen many riced out camero's as well so just specifying "honda owners is Bs". Just because it has a bodykit does that mean its rice? Just because it has carbon does that mean its rice? A GT wing on an Fwd is pointless but a nice stylish lip wing is nice. Some bodykits do improve a cars performance. Etc - R.E or Feed their cars have excellent cooling due to the scoop not to mention there stronger an lighter due to the CF used. Ask for only honda thats BS If honda wanted to shut V8 Am heads up they could no problem. The Nsx is a Prime example of how well ingenuity is. As far as more cylinders can make more power yea they can but NO ONE on this forum will ever reach that level unless your in the pinnicle of mo sport. Dragster 4 cylinders can put out over 1000hp. If think well I need a V8 because Im going to reach the dragster level hp... Thats never going to happen. Scion is rice if they are "sooped up".
My personal opinion - Pistons are for brakes :evillol:

So, if the Saleen was slow you'd be calling it rice wouldnt you? Just because its fast takes it off the "ricer list."
Why is the Focus rice, because its not as fast as your Camaro? If the Focus came from Ford with 300hp would you still be calling it rice? I dont think so.... :shakehead
And how the hell is Scion rice? Because they make economical daily driver cars thats good on gas? They dont have one car that comes from the factory with any type of bodykit or performance package. Scion is the same as Toyota so I guess your calling Toyota rice too? Maybe you dont like the styling of Scions cars, but just because YOU dont like them, doesnt make it ok to call it RICE...
Oh yeah, I guess that means everything in the world is rice except Camaros, becasue you seem to diss every car except for muscle cars and Camaros. Well, I've seen some pretty "riced" out Camaros so dont get me started.
