I am filling out the salvage inspection form so I can register my car. There are some question I need it to be answered:
- I certify that, to the best of my knowledge, the above disclosed odometer reading "EXCEEDS MECHANICAL LIMITS".
- I certify that, to the best of my knowledge, the above disclosed odometer reading is "NOT THE ACTUAL MILEAGE"
WARNING: ODOMETER DISCREPANCY
Also, I need to know something as well.
MAJOR COMPONENTS PART OF PARTS REPLACED:
- LEFT 3/4 Nose
- Right 3/4 Nose
- Nose (complete)
- Body
-Rear Clips
-Cowls
-Front cut off
-Frame (repair or replacement)
-Engine
-Transmission
- Driver's Air Bag
- Passenger Air Bag
- Other Air Bags
(so much for intense intrusion of privacy and intense scrutiny).
I am not sure which I should check off. Here's what happened when my former friend who owned the car. When the car was in accident, the front was total, the front thingy went off, both of the fender was cracked, the hood is no good, and the radiator has a small puncture in it. So I went to the junk yard and bought all of the stuff I needed.
I don't understand what "right 3/4" and "left 3/4" means, does this refers to the fenders? And also, what does cowls mean? DMV needs to make it simple for people to read. Also, regarding to my radiator, do I need to mark off "engine"? Because I didn't replaced the radiator, I just patch it up. Thanks and I appreciated it. A quick response would be useful!! I need to mail it out soon so DMV could assign me a date to get it inspected.

- I certify that, to the best of my knowledge, the above disclosed odometer reading "EXCEEDS MECHANICAL LIMITS".
the stock odometer goes to 999999 miles, don't think you are out of limits, older cars could never get the mileage cars today get, so there odometers only read 99999, maybe less?
- I certify that, to the best of my knowledge, the above disclosed odometer reading is "NOT THE ACTUAL MILEAGE"

ask your friend if the odometer reading is correct
the front thingy went off
what is this "thingy" you speak of?
I don't understand what "right 3/4" and "left 3/4" means, does this refers to the fenders?
front fenders indeed
And also, what does cowls mean?
the cowl is the vented area between the hood and the windsheild
Also, regarding to my radiator, do I need to mark off "engine"? Because I didn't replaced the radiator, I just patch it up.
didn't replace the engine? then don't mark it.(also, i have yet to see a saturn radiator successfully repaired/patched, you may need to buy a new one soon)

Thingy I am reffering to is my car hood, sorry.
Secondly, how do I know my odometer is reading correctly? So are you saying that if the odometer reads at 99,999 then it's considered as "exceeding mechincal limit"? My car mileage is 106,207, or closer.
What does odometer disrepancy means? Thanks

Odometer discrepancy means that the miles shown on the odometer are not the same as the actual miles the car has been driven. Basically, as long as the odometer has not been replaced or "modified" to your knowledge and still works, then you should have no odometer discrepancy.

when a odometer "exceeds mechincal limits" it still continues to roll, or rather, roll-over, it just starts back at zero. so if you have a car that has 220,000 miles, but the odometer only reads 5 digits, your odometer will read 20,000. holy shit you have a low milage car again!

Do I need a tool to test it? How do I test it? Yes, I am a nub!
Has anyone been to Salvage Inspection Dept before? Are they friendly or are they like, "You have numerous of probelms in your car and it needs to be fix". So they guy inspect the car and breaks several parts so they could make money off from customers. That's what happens to me when I get my car inspected for a green inspection sticker. Before I had it inspected, one of my genius car mechanic inspected my car and it was all dandy. So I took it to firestone to have it inspected; they came out and told me that it need some minor repairs. I looked at the paper and the total cost is 349.00. I decided to pay and get my inspection sticker. When I got back, I showed the paper to my friend who inspected my car, he told me that Firestone is ripping me off and the minor repairs isn't previously broken, it was fine. Next time, I will have it inspected to a well known mechanic.

If you drive the car and the odometer turns, it is working. I have heard of others who have had bad experiences with Firestone wanting to charge for unnecessary work. My favorite place to get an inspection is a penzoil shop that is connected to a full service car wash, you get a free car wash! At least in Texas where the state regulates the inspection fee.

maybe i whent to far into detail, let me rephrase: unless this saturn has over 1 million miles, do not check this box.
about the inspectior, i don't know, in my area we have centeraized testing (we go to a state operated test station, not a shop). but it sounds like its a state inspectior checking the car, not a shop, plus it sound like you have a close mechinic friend who confirm the repairs needed.

Ok, here is another thing I need to know:
For inspection (green inspection sticker- for NYS)
Under what circumstance car must be inspected for in order to retain an inspection sticker? I am not referring to Salvage Inspection Site, just regular inspection every year.
Thanks.
