97 Blazer P0175 code

Yetserday my CEL came on and when I checked it I got P0175 Bank 2 to rich. This is the second time I have had this code in about 400 miles. Where do I need to start looking to track this down? It seems like when it rains it pours. This is on top of the transmission issues P1870 and I had to put a new wiper motor on last night too.

Have you replaced your ignition switch yet? they are a real problem on 97s and are potentially dangerous. A bad ignition switch can cause alot of strange problem such as numerous strange transmission codes and intermittently cutting out (where the vehicle just completely shuts off for no reason).
The Bank 2 too rich can be many things. Whens the last time you had a tune up?
There was a recall on the front wiper motor. I hope the dealership did it for you for free.

P0175 OBD Trouble Code
Technical Description
System Too Rich (Bank 2)
What does that mean?
Basically this means that an oxygen sensor in bank 2 detected a rich condition (too little oxygen in the exhaust). On V6/V8/V10 engines, Bank 2 is the side of the engine that doesn't have cylinder #1.
Note: This DTC is very similar to P0172, and in fact your vehicle may show both codes at the same time.
Symptoms
You will more than likely not notice any drivability problems, although there may be symptoms such as a misfire.
Causes
A code P0175 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
The MAF (Mass Air Flow) Sensor is dirty or faulty. Note: The use of "oiled" air filters (K&N, etc.) can cause the MAF to become dirty if the filter is over-oiled There could be a vacuum leak. There could be a fuel pressure or delivery problemPossible Solutions
Possible solutions include: Inspect all vacuum and PCV hoses, replace if necessary Cleanthe MAF sensor. Consult your service manual for it's location if you need help. I find it's best to take it off and spray it with electronics cleaner or brake cleaner. Make sure you are careful not to damage the MAF sensor, and make sure it's dry before reinstalling Inspect fuel lines for cracks, leaks, or pinches Check the fuel pressure at the fuel rail Check the fuel injectors, they may be dirty. Use fuel injector cleaner or get them professionally cleaned/replaced. Check for an exhaust leak before the first oxygen sensor (this is unlikely to cause the problem, but it is possible)

Ignition switch if you are also getting the tranny code.
Prone to fail on a 1997, it is that year's problem.

justaguy,
did you ever solve this? I'm still trying to resolve my P0175 too rich problems.

Sorry it took so long to get back. I was on vacation. I put new plugs in and I have not had the P0175 code come back on. I still get the P1870 code. The hotter it is the faster it comes on. I honestly don't think it has anything to do with the switch. I think my valve body is worn due to the way it acts.

Are you reading the thread at all?
How about the ignition switch?

I am getting the P1870 code in my 97 Blazer too and I also get harsh 1-2 upshifts. I am planning to replace the valve body this weekend.

Yes I am reading the thread. I don't think it is the ignition switch because when I had a bad/ stuck open thermostat i hardly ever did this. I am in SE Georgia and the hotter the day the faster the problem comes up. Since I have the A/C on the switch is not in a hot enviroment. The transmission on the other hand is. I understand what you are saying but the symptoms tend to lead me to the valve body due to it comming on much faster in 98 degree heat than 70 degree heat. I don't want just to start replacing parts if I don't know for sure. Is there a way to test the ignition switch to rule it in or out? Would I need a new key after? Is it a do it yourself thing?

NOOOOO!!
Replace the ignition switch, it causes the transmission problem with the 1997!
Replace it and your transmission problems will be gone.

P1870 (Transmission Component Slipping) isn't a code that is set by the ignition switch it indicates a mechanical malfunction not an electrical malfunction.
The ignition switch (described here - http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=423434 ) would set one or more of the following codes:
P0740 - Torque Converter Clutch Circuit
P0753 - Shift Solenoid A Electrical
P0758 - Shift Solenoid B Electrical
P0785 - Shift Timing Solenoid
P1860 - TCC PWM Solenoid Circuit – Electrical
It also shouldn't be assumed that the valve body is the problem. The valve body is the most common cause, but there are several possible causes:

I am not getting any of the electrical codes, so I will assume my problem is not in the IGNITION SWITCH. I always thought that was some kind of inside-Blazer-joke on this forum...like a left-handed-smoke-shifter or something.

The scan tool may show a DTC P1870 set as a history code. Typically, these vehicles will have been driven more than 32,000 km (20,000 miles) to exhibit this condition. My blazer recently gave me the following error codes P0740, P0785, P1860, and P1870. It shift pretty harsh between 1st and 2nd gear when warm I don't know if it is electrical mechanical or both. I do know the thing wont tell me anything about the 1800's because they are manufacturer controlled. Does anyone have any idea why it would give me both the electrical and mechanical codes?
