no a/c after a cold start

Do I have an electrical problem or an a/c problem???

When I'm starting the car after it's been off for more than about 8 hours, the a/c won't turn on.

It's not really just the a/c, I can't even get a fan going.

I've noticed that on the cold starts, I get a flashing battery light while the engine cranks.

Of course, when I bring it in, it's started up and the a/c is fine and there's no flashing battery light.

If I'm running errands, and stop and start the car, then on the second or third start, the air will turn on.

My mechanics think I'm crazy!

And, I'm sweating my way to work and home everyday!

What's going on?

I hope someone CAN help, I would love to hear something about this too. My husband IS a mechanic and has been fighting this same problem for over a month. I know his customer must think HE is nutz too... I will ask him about the battery light you mentioned.... haven't heard either way on that.
