Hi,

nice progress !!!!!!!!!!!!

The shocks look good but for this scale the springs appear too thin.

This week was really busy so I haven't done much... but I added some parts to the gearbox and cleaned some more parts for the engine. I also primed the suspension parts and hopefully I am able to finish the rear shock absorbers in the next few days, stay tuned :iceslolan

In case you want to know which PE nuts I mainly use, here they are "Model Car Garage Nuts, Bolthead set". They are really great and the parts are much smaller than the ones from SMS.
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/88/52588/1280_3866383731313965.jpg

Here's a comparison shot with 1 Cent (Euro), just to show you how tiny these are... :grinno:
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/88/52588/1280_3834653038356439.jpg

And 1 more shot from the gearbox! The valve cover isn't painted yet!!! And you can see the added weld line on the oil reservoir!
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/88/52588/1280_6437646362396131.jpg

And the best thing of the week, I got the replacement parts from Tamiya on thursday :smokin: :smokin:, so the next steps are finishing the rear dampers and then painting the valve covers (hopefully I won't mess them up this time :loser:) + fuel rail etc....

$1400 for a built MP4/6 in 1:12... Phew.. That is a load of money.. Think you will be able to sell your build for this kind of money?

Nice Build !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What colour did you use on the transmission case? The colour looks different from what the instruction is call for.
And did you apply some rough texture to the transmission case too ?

Yeah, I saw that. I am not quite sure if it's worth it because the pics are crap... they are so small and blurred you can't see anything... :iceslolan
But the base is really nice!!

Update: I just saw someone bought it for 1475€...:sly:! here's the new link click (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?viewItem&item=5996384103).

Nice Build !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, the color is different from what the instructions say. It's Alclad II Magnesium looks way more realistic, if you ask me. And as you can see from my pics it looks a bit different from another angle or light! And about your second question, yes I applied a light texture to the transmission. The black basecoat was sprayed from a large distance.

Sorry, that there are not so many updates lately. I mainly worked on small parts, cleaned and sprayed them etc. very time consuming. And I glued the first exhaust together wich was quite dissapointing, the fitting was horrible (compared to modern Tamiya standarts (Enzo, CGT...)) But some glue here and there and it turned out well.
And I finally found the perfect gold for the suspension arms Alclad II pale gold is the way to go, looks great. Pics will follow in the next few days after the paint is dry.

nothing real exciting but anyway some more pics :iceslolan

Sratchbuild cover under the second oil resevoir, will be painted black. I simply used the thinest sheet styrene i got and cut out a circle, the rest was some sanding.
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/88/52588/1280_3434623538386666.jpg

Rear Anti Roll bar from the Perfect Parts detail set. All parts are infact two and glued together. The gap between the two parts are filled with superglue, I hope they won't be visible after primer....
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/88/52588/1280_6335376239313664.jpg

And finally first exhaust glued together, it was a pain in the ***... fittment was really bad, can't wait to do the other side... :lol2: :lol2:
still needs some touch ups here and there....

Nice steady progress.. Gearbox looks great in Alclad. I used the same colour for my honda wheels, but I backed it with grey, to make it lighter.. worked a treat.

And how you use those small P/E parts.. Take it you fix them with drops of clear?

The McLaren is looking good, but I must say, you must have my build specs and photos of my MP4/6 on your workbench...everything is looking very familiar, which I guess I will take as a compliment!!!

And how you use those small P/E parts.. Take it you fix them with drops of clear?

You won't believe it but it's quite easy :iceslolan, you just have to know the trick...

the tweezers are really important when you work with PE parts but in this case you only need a toothpick and a needle (i used a really big toothpick :iceslolan because it's much easier to work with, I think toothpick is maybe the wrong word but I am not quite sure what the right word is...) then simply insert the needle in one end and it should look like mine...
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/88/52588/1280_3466666261346636.jpg

Now you can add really small drops of superglue, kristal klear, clearcoat or whatever with the needle and
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/88/52588/1280_3364616539623133.jpg

with the otherside you can place the PE Parts. Simply dip the woodenside in water and then the magic happens...PE nuts, washers or bolts will stick to it and you can easily place them wherever you want! You just need a steady hand, try it, it works great!!!
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/88/52588/1280_3535626565636235.jpg

BTW if you want to add some bigger drops of glue simply use a toothpick!

The McLaren is looking good, but I must say, you must have my build specs and photos of my MP4/6 on your workbench...everything is looking very familiar, which I guess I will take as a compliment!!!

To be honest, I read your build specs like 100 times and looked at your photos many many hours!!! Of course, there are some things in common like the exhaust connectors, but the Sakatsu Air Jack fittings are simply perfect for it.
The first thing when I start to work on a new part is looking at the Perfect Manual then compare it to your build (which are almost the same pics :grinno:), then check Andy Matthew's pics and look how he done it.
After all these inspiration I try to make the part to look as real as possible (or what my skill allows :loser:).

I am glad you take it as a compliment!!!

3 weeks without modelling but i finally managed to do some work this weekend :loser: (BTW I had a HDD crash 2 weeks ago, but luckily I burnt all my modelling stuff on a DVD 2 days before :iceslolan :iceslolan)

I mainly worked on the Rear Anti Roll Bar, added more nuts and bolts, installed the cover under the second (small one) oil reservoir and added some parts to the engine. This is how it looks right now...

http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/88/52588/1280_3463376632396661.jpg

The valve covers are still not painted, I am a bit worried about messing them up the second time... :icon16:

And here is a pic of the Rear Anti Roll Bar assembly, At first I glued the NBW's (from the Perfect Parts set) to a pin made of a wire and then simply glued them in place.
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/88/52588/1280_3537373938353130.jpg

This is how it looks after everything is in place and painted gold. The other parts are only testfitted yet, they still need some paint .

I worked on the oil reservoir, this is the original part
http://www.arcor.de/palb/alben/88/52588/1280_3538376339343162.jpg

added weld lines and drilled holes for AN Fittings, actually quite hard to see...
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/88/52588/1280_6465303236613864.jpg

test fitted some Sakatsu AN fittings

http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/88/52588/1280_3338616262333862.jpg

finally primed and ready for some paint
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/88/52588/1280_3861663938333437.jpg

And I started to work on the second exhaust, painted some parts and worked on the rear anti roll bar but there's not really much more (new) to show you... but more will follow soon, hopefully :licka:

You won't believe it, finally a update... :grinyes:

2nd attempt on the valve covers, mold lines removed, primed and the honda logo covered with Bare Metal Foil. This time I used way more Bare Metal Foil to avoid the problem which I had at my first try (Page 2 or 3).
And I sprayed one layer gunze semi gloss clear, just to be make sure that it won't come off when I sand it.
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/88/52588/1280_3262363463363230.jpg

sprayed black, and of course with some texture to it. (just sprayed at high pressure and from far away). But this time I used a smaller Airbrush nozzle which looks way better when you compare it to the older pics.
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/88/52588/1280_3730663030393064.jpg

But now comes the truth, I lightly sanded the logo to bring back the shine from the BMF :smokin:.
and as you can see I pre drilled some holes for wires.
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/88/52588/1280_3432356630653332.jpg

http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/88/52588/1280_3236336633666335.jpg

And I made some connectors from aluminium
here's the original part
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/88/52588/1280_6166653639363432.jpghttp://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/88/52588/1280_3539326132383634.jpg

and this was my first try, turned out quite well. But the plug with the wires is still left...
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/88/52588/1280_3938343531643231.jpg

next update

I had a hard time to figure out how to give "the middle part" of the valve covers a aluminium finish but I finally had a good idea (which I first tried on my old messed up parts). I covered it with BMF and used q-tips (or better microbrush, which was way better at the edges) to lay it down perfectly.
The next thing is, I inserted the part that came with the kit which is simply a cover for the whole valve wiring area (which was used in some races).
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/88/52588/1280_6232373230663665.jpg

Then I used a knife with a brand new blade and cut along the red lines
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/88/52588/1280_6265313635323361.jpg

and it turned a great, atleast I am happy with it :grinno:
I also added some PE boltheads from Model Car Garage
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/88/52588/1280_6536623935333131.jpg

After that I was a bit bored with the engine, so I finally started on the cockpit.
I mainly prepared the cockpit parts for painting, sprayed them semi gloss black and now they are waiting for some CF decals. Infact I am waiting too, I ordered some more SMS Decals which I hope will arrive soon... :grinyes:

The first part which need some modifications is this
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/88/52588/1280_6232333231333134.jpg

I am still not sure what it is exactly, I looked through my references and found out that there are some stickers that say "hard" and "soft" so I guess that it has something to do with the suspension or anti roll bar... if anybody knows it for sure, let me know please!

Anyway, I first cut (with a PE saw) it in two parts and attached some pins to it.
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/88/52588/1280_3538303935373333.jpg

Incase your're wondering what I used for the black pins they are plastic pins. I simply used an old sprue, hold it over a candle and scretched it
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/88/52588/1280_3032636636386262.jpg
From my experience, glueing two plastic parts together is much stronger than glueing metal and plastic together especially when they are so small.

I guess you already know what I want to do... here some pics from the testfit, and to my surprise it fits quite good :smokin:

setting "hard"
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/88/52588/1280_6536313133643233.jpg

setting "soft"
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/88/52588/1280_3666323538383031.jpg

Sorry these aren't the best pics, but I had to hurry because the battery symbol was red and blinking.. :iceslolan
I think a make a little movie when everything is painted and covered with CF :licka:

and the next thing is, the part with all the little switches and buttons.
stock part
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/88/52588/1280_3035666233396439.jpg

everything will be replaced with Sakatsu or scratchbuild switches, so I used a knife and some sandpaper and this is how it turned out
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/88/52588/1280_3664353161353863.jpg

I already pre drilled some holes for the switches, but I painted the part so you will probably see it in the next update.

That's all for now, I think I am going back to my little building area.. :evillol:

EDIT:
I almost forgot, I layed down the first CF decals. In the past I only used Mr. Mark Setter, but I tried Micro Sol and Micro Set this time and let me say this blew me away. It was so much better and easier to work with, A++!!! I only tried this stuff on SMS Decals, but SMS decals + Mirco Sol/Set is definitely the way to go!!!

not much to show you guys, because I mainly prepared parts like the fuel rail, AN Fittings, Airbox tray and so on.

Nothing really exciting, but I got some more progress pics of the cockpit, the instruments panel is about 90% finished (the switches are from Sakatsu or scratchbuild) and the seat is painted and I gave it a used look. More pics will follow soon (hopefully next week), I am still waiting for some CF decals :banghead:.

I can only repeat what others have said.... great work!

I especially like the way you have angled the CF in the cockpit.

All the best,

I did some more detailing on the valve covers. I mainly used the metal parts from the Perfect Parts set!

the valve cover is about 95% finished.

I added some more SMS CF decals to the cockpit and I replaced the seat belt securing hardware with PP parts.
This is the other side of the "leg console" which you saw in one of my last posts... but I'am afraid that it won't be visible when the model is complete :screwy:

these SMS Decals are awesome, they look different depending on the angle you're looking at it and that was exactly what I wanted. BTW you can see the used look of the seat..
CF almost gold

CF nearly black, the effect is quite hard to photograph but it looks darker in real life :iceslolan

If I understand your post correctly, one of these pics is your part and one is a ref pic. I'll be darned if you can tell 'em apart! It's only the lolly sick that gives the game away! :) :worshippy
