1993 Hyundai Excel - bolt came out of the timing gear while running down the road. Since the timing belt came off, are the valves going to be bent? it has a 1.5L engine in it.thanks

I don't think so. My dad has a 1989 Excel with the 1.5L engine in it and the timing belt snapped on the highway. I replaced the belt and it still runs fine.

Depends from case to case. Sometimes the timing belt wouldn't seem to do too much; other times, it would screw up your engine, especially the valves, terribly.

If it is a non interference engine you will not damage your valves or pistons because the don't make contact. If the engine is an interference engine then yes, it can damage the valves and or pistons.
