Killed a Celica

About an hour ago. Were at a light in a two lane down a long highway. Next light about... 3 miles away or so. First in line at a red. No traffic in front of us as far as can be seen. It was the newest model but it wasnt the GTS. I'm guessing it was stick because it shifted hard. So anyway he had a fart cannon on there and this weird flame shaped window tint, dont know how it kept him cool as its 110 degrees out here. I guess he likes to be comfortable in sections. He revs his engine a little and I had my music up real loud but look over at him and hes half glancing at me, he's my age so I know he wants to go.

So it turns green and we both punch it, he squeals a bit and my Kumho's do there job without even a chirp. TIRES MAKE A DIFFERENCE PEOPLE. So i have about a half a length on him and he's gaining very slowly but surely. He shifts to 2nd and jumps up a bit and I'm lookin at the revs and its already at 5200 and I'm thinking "shift shift cmon shift", shifts about close to 5,800, and I jump almost there with him, my nose at his tire. A second later he jumps to third and gets almost a length on me. I say "fuck it", hit the giggle juice (only third time using it) and it jumped like a bastard! Shot way into the red and shifted FAST into third and revs continued to jump way up. At 105 I had 2 and a 1/2 car lengths and let off with still quite a bit to go to the next light. We got to the light and he rolled down his window and said "Did I get you to push it all the way?" And I said "Yea i let out a little something extra." And he says "Man, I didn't know cavi's were that fast." And I just smiled and drove away and he got off the highway.

Wish I could afford such mods. *sigh* Though I highly dislike straight line "racing", it's nearly impossible to find someone to go with on the backroads (aka, places with turns :icon16: ). But just so I can beat all the others to it, street racing is illegal / dangerous / etc :nono:

whered you get a nitrous kit for an 04? i know 04 and 05 are virtually identical, so i want one lol. have to get some backups to it and what not, but where did you get it?

Ordered it through the performance shop I go through. Cheaper that way, don't have to pay shipping, they guarantee there won't be any problems with the product, and they reduce the install price for ordering through them. Whole wet kit was less than a grand.

I wouldn't ever race if it looked as though we were putting anyone in danger. I only do it when I can be sure the only one's at risk are me and the fool next to me :-)

I beat a Lebaron with an exhaust in my 2.2 stock. then today i beat a z28 and a 302 5.0 mustang today in my honda (1.6) I knwo I know.. Honda bla blah blah. I hate driving it because it's a honda, but I love driving it because it's a del Sol. Today was a good day.

Well 1st of all if my cars as slow as you say it is, you shouldn't even bother worrying because I can barely keep up with traffic.

what exactly is a smart street racer? and yeah skydiving is dangerous and risky but its legal. why race on the street when you can go to a strip. same thing as far as racing. but i wont bring up this arguement anymore.

because the track costs money... and some people wouldnt be able to pass the Tech inspections due to things such as "ghetto" rigged mods, cracked windshields, or various others

z28 camaro of mid 1980's even with a hi po v8 had a mere 170hp, and a peak around 210hp in the later models. the 5.0 of 1988 had around 160 brand new, i myself have eaten a couple of those in my cavi. now the new 5.0's would eat me alive lol. it all depends on the year of the car...

If you knew anything you would have looked, I have a B16a2 motor. That STOCK runs a 15.5. I am modified and weight reduced as well guy, you should do some research before you disrespect, I hope you feel like a jackass.

Wasnt going to add to this till I saw that. With the types of mods he has done I find it really hard to believe he could take one either. With those mods he would be running high to mid 15's tops and thats a low estimate. Unless I see slips other wise to back it.

I don't have my old slip, in any case, it is not like they were professional drivers, they barely moved in first gear. I have good tires so I don't spin on a good launch and they get nervous and just punch it. My friend raced them in his Z24 that is naturally aspirated with mods and he and I run even in the 1/4. HE beat them as well.

Granted I would like to see a slip or two from you as well but I was mostly saying that I would like to see slips from tuneradept if he thinks he is running better then my estimates.

I drove a stock Del Sol with a VTEC about 3 hours ago and they are pretty damn fast. I've watched people race 3.0's around here and from what I've seen, they arent that fast at all. Quit picking on him just because he has a Honda.... shit

Anyway I started a little late, but great kill on the celica. They are nice cars and run great for the numbers they are pushing. How do you like your nitrous ive been thinking on getting some for my car.

caviman69: I love the nitrous. It's less wear on the engine than a supercharger/turbo because it's only used about 2% of the time the car's being driven. And it adds just as much HP if not more than a blower would. And cheaper too.

I believe you, hell for one Camaro has a lot more torque, but the Camaro also is alot heavier that the del sol. 200hp with 130 lbs of torque with a stock curb weight of 2301. Is going to fly. Especially against a car that is 1000 pounds heavy that it. Hell besides when the other guy punches it the thing probably sits there spinning while the del sol takes of.

As far as killing a celica you should had to use the NOS to kill it especially if it was a gt. Those things are slow anyways, they only have like 140 hp at the wheel, now if it was a GTS 6 speed that would have be somewhat impressive.

he's lucky if he has 160whp with the mods he listed. car is 160hp stock, which is about 145(give or take a few) whp. Now add an exhuast, and header you might see 150whp, ignition and wires arent gonna net you but maybe 1. and a WAI will actually hurt your motor when it gets hot.

I wouldn't try to install it myself if I were you. They had to run wires and such from the bottle in the trunk to the engine to the dash. Not something I would want to mess with if I hadn't had professional experience. Installation was only a few hundred. Took several hours.

The track hasn't had a test and tune in a week and a half, and I had to work on the one before it. I don't want to drive 3 hours for the next closest track. I haven't taken video yet because most people don't like it when you video tape the race, at least around here. Plus I don't have the cables to get video to PC. Wow. You beat a 5.0. I bet it was a Carburated 2 Barrel with E6 heads. PLEASE. These cars made, at best, 160HP (whp)..or the EFI Non-HO 5.0... And weighs, 3000lbs+ Just because they say "5.0" doesnt mean its fast. The later ones (88+) got the EFI E7 Heads, Roller camshaft, and made 225 (crank hp).

And the Camaro?.. I bet it was the Berlinetta 5.0, with the TBI. HOLY SHAT BATMAN. 2BARRELS OF FURY! These made, 140HP? (whp). Even then, up untill 92, the 5.0L, even in top of the line TBI mustered up a VERY impressive 165 HP. The TBI managed about 200, while the L98 made about 220 HP.

I don't know what was done to the cars or what motors they had, I do know that thats the names they had and they lost in races to me. I never claimed they were extremely fast or whatever, I claimed the mustang was a 5.0 and the Camaro was a Z28.

That is why I stopped driving my cavalier. I had the 2.2 OHV is why, I would have to turbo it to make it as fast as a Z24.. Once I motorswap and turbo my Honda I should be running a low 13, but then that sacrifices daily driveability. I know a guy with a B18 turbo del Sol. he said at the track "I am running 11's or leaving on a trailer." He ran 11.95... So I hope to someday be up to that level.
