Well, I dunno, if we open it up to all drag machines you're right, it does give more people the chance to participate.... but let's face it, there's not much custom/personal work you can do to, say, a John Force Funny Car kit, or a Tony Schumacher dragster. Not only that, but that would open the contest up to import drag racers, so someone could take a Tamiya curbside Supra, and build an NIRA pro drag car out of it. But then how do you judge a mostly custom, curbside Tamiya Supra against, say, that Pro Stock Oldsmobile I have a pic of in my post?

But then again, this'd my first contest regardless, so I dunno how the rule side of things works out. Just my OTHER two cents :)

Are you nuts????? You cant do much PERSONAL work to a Top Fuel car???? Have you seen my thread????

lol. when i read that post your build came to mind. do you think it will be finished by the first of november? there has been quite a bit of interest over on the scale auto board, if we would ad a topfuel/funny car class....

sounds like fun. can we count you in james?

ok. if we decide to add the rail cars and funny cars, they will need their own separate class. i'll have to get with the sponsors to see what we can come up with. as well as wait till dave gets back. as he is the one who started this thing up.

I stand corrected.

You know I don't think that's really what I meant, come to think of it. I just meant there wasn't much in the way of making a unique body style... anyway whatever. Rail cars it is! :P

But I'm still doing an old Pro Stock :)

Tony J
06-24-2005, 09:29 PM
[QUOTE=tigeraid]I stand corrected.

hey tiger, I am working on one of those tamiya supras right now! and yes its a cool body style. with a little mods it would make a great drag car. but it is a left side drive type of car ya know foreign style, but what i did was take the amt fast and furious kit and bash it with the tamiya kit for the stock interior and i also opened up the hood and the amt motor looks right at home in there.dont get me wrong it did take lots of work tho. and i also used the open roof line on the car. i will take some fotos and put them in my gallery but my cam is weak and kinda cheap but anyway thats all thanx guys

tigeraid
06-24-2005, 09:32 PM
Sounds good dude. I certainly mean that they couldn't be built, it's just that many of the kits are curbside and fundamentally different from the American kits so they might be harder to judge. But as I said this would be my first contest, so I'm no expert on the rules or judging :P

white97ex
06-24-2005, 09:37 PM
ok here is the list so far. tony j, whumbachumba, flathead dave, myself, nastone, stump, and tiger aid. looks like we are getting a pretty good response. that left had drive supra sounds awesome.

tigeraid
06-24-2005, 11:10 PM
ack, I just realised the reason I have that Mustang II kit is because I bought it to steal the bumper off of it for my buddy's Nova! Can't have a Pro Stock without a rear bumper! :) Might have to change my project.... oh well

white97ex
06-25-2005, 09:14 AM
ok guys. here they are....some VERY nice photos. if you will notice (correct me if im wrong chris) the top and hte bottom rail go all the way to the front of the chassis.

Russell, correct and they also go all the way back to the rear of the car. If you notice the interior shot, you will see a dog-leg bend in the top bar near the firewall. That is there to give the driver clearance for his legs. This dog-leg is not on the right side of the car. You can see it in the photos, but the top bars are set slightly wider apart than the bottom rails and also angle in from the firewall to the rear-end housing. Again, if you have any questions or need more photos, just let me know what you need and I will see what I can do.

Later.
Chris.

well, i've got this c5 vette body sitting in front of me. the wheelbase comes out to 106 inches, but the over hang is a few inches short. for sanity sake, im going to leave it. I'll probably scratchbuild this chassis too, like i did the mustang. I'd love to get one of your resin peices, but it may not be in the budget. this will be PRO MOD. lol. much more so than the mustang. i've officially dubbed that one an outlaw street type car. lol. with the exception of the motor. the more detailed shots of the chassis you could part with on that reference disk the better. lol. i'm still hunting good photos of a twin turbo set up. that benz is the banks quad turbo correct?

Once you have all the rules sorted i'll be keen to do something.

tigeraid
06-25-2005, 09:42 PM
white97ex: I noticed in the rules you posted that you said the super stock/pro stock style cars HAVE to be tube frame. I should point out that a lot of Sportsman classes that are just back-halfed (tubbed, maybe a ladder frame) but utilize large portions of the stock chassis still. I hope we'll be allowed to do these as well...

white97ex
06-26-2005, 12:57 AM
yeah, that is fine. lol. didn't realize that. the way that i look at it, as long as it has slicks, and a minimalized interior. its a go. lol

white97ex
06-26-2005, 11:49 AM
ok guys, i've been working on the rules and layout of this thing, running it through my head over and over. and again, i'll have to wait till dave gets back before anything is set in stone.

Category 1: Pro Mod, we will use chris's definition of a pro mod for this contest. so refer to that. it will be copy and pasted into the official thread when the time comes.

Category 2: This includes bracket racers, sportsman type builds, pro stock, gasser, pro comp, anything of the nature, be it full tube frame or full frame cars, as long as they would, in real life, have full functioning doors and pretty much a stock appearing body, they need to be running of full slicks, and preferrably a cage, and a gutted interior. im sure that i am leaving something out of this, so if you have any suggestions please feel free to chime in.

Category 3: Tuner, Im leaving these in a class all of their own for now, this can encompass full scratchbuilt tube frame cars, to curbside builds, keep in mind tho if it is curbside, you are at a disadvantage, but you still need to meet other requirements such as a roll cage, slicks, and the gutted interior.

Category 4: Top Fuel/Funny Car (still pending) if you are interested in this class send me a pm please, i dont want to form a class with less than 5 or 6 entries. if this class forms, i will be inclined to merge the tuner class into category 2. this one is self explanatory.

any comments, recommendations, suggestions or questions are welcomed. lets try and get them all out in the next 2 or 3 days that way we can have this thing up and running by the end of the week. dave should be back monday or tuesday, and hopefully by friday at the latest we will have everything set in stone. please comment post fears and strong points you have about the contest, we want this to be as fun as possible. and maybe even a recurring event next year.

white97ex
06-28-2005, 10:19 AM
interest has sort of fallen off so far. i'd like to keep this around the top of the board. if any of you scale auto guys are reading this, send me a pm or drop a line here. if you are interested in the rail class, i've had a pm about an older style front engine, and im sure skylinefan will enter his dixon ride, so there is 2. 3 or 4 more, and i would be inclined to entertain a category for you guys. here is a list as follows of everyone who has expressed interest in the contest. if you are going to make a true effort at the the deadline, please let us know for sure you are going to start a build and what kind of car you will be doing. again we will be open to multiple entries. this will help us get the categories straightened out and the rules hammered out. where are all of the import guys? i'd love to see some hard core imports.

yes, it will be judged just as the lemans competition and the AFMOTY. im still trying to come up with enough judges. i would like 3 outside judges, and thus far i only have one. we will have a people's choice winner as well. right now we are looking at an overall people's choice winner, a winner in each category, and an overall winner by the judges. still trying to make contact with a few people about sponsorship yet. so i havn't hammered out the prizes for each thing

tony, if you open up your web gallery. if they are uploaded to automotiveforums and many other web based picture servers. but with AF specifically, open the picture that you want to insert, and there is a bar directly below the picture. just copy and paste that link into your post and voila, you have a picture post. just make sure the pic isn't too big! if you bring your nova to the july meeting, i will bring my 35 mm and i'll shoot it for you!
