i have a 2001 sc2 with firestone firehawk gta tires on it. they came with the car new. are these tires junk or something? they only have 18.000 miles on them & seem to have a lot of tread left, but they are already starting to shake, & make a lot of noise when they roll. the car when it rolls slowly feels like it's going up & down like the tires are out of round or something. they are also starting to crack between the treads. anybody else with these tires on their cars doing the same thing?

i don't know for a fact the quality of firestones, i'm happy with my BF goodrench, sorry to say they are not mounted right now :(
the shaking may be the tires are unbalanced
the cracking is normally a sign the tire has overheated, typicilly by exceeding the tire's speed rating or by underinflation.

the cracking is normally a sign the tire has overheated, typicilly by exceeding the tire's speed rating or by underinflation. the wheels were recently balanced. there is no shimmy at high speed, just at low speed, it feels like i'm driving on un-even pavement all the time. the tires are always kept at the proper pressure. the rubber looks like it's dry rotting. kind of strange. i don't think i ever seen a car tire do this. i have heard online of a lot of problems with firestone tires like this, & was wondering if any saturn owners like me who have the same tires are having this same problem....

rotate the tire and see if the vibration moves with it.

all this was done. with some internet surfing i'm seeing firestone tire recalls & a lot of bad stuff being said about firestone tires. my car is like new & the tires are going to hell. that sucks! i was not planning on buying new tires so soon. my next set will probably be goodyear....

i work at firestone. i thought they were good tires..
i know people dont buy themuch, because we keep them in the back.
edit: im headin into work soon, i will check with the sales reps to see if their good tires or not.. and how expensive they are. thats always a good way to tell if its a good tire.
