Ok... last march I had a window regulator go out on my 2000 impala... passenger side... ok I understand things happen... so I shelled out 320 bucks to get it fixed. Well...yesterday I came out from work to find the drivers side window down... sure enough... shot window regulator... I stuffed an old pair of tennis shoes up the door to keep the window up until I have time (and money) to get it fixed. All is fine for the moment... Today... I came out from work put my brief case in the back seat like usual and upon shutting the door, that window fell down.... another shot window regulator!!! This time I shoved a big towel in there to keep it up. I live in Phoenix... so the windows have to be up for the AC to do any good.... so now I'm looking at another $320 ... so all together withing the last 3 months I'll have had to replace 3 window regulators to the tune of close to a thousand bucks!!! What is wrong with this picture???? Is this a common problem or what? On top of these items I have to replace the ISS, and now I'm getting a squeeling noise coming from the AC compressor. I've spent another couple grand fixing intake manifold gaskets, ignition switches and the other common things that go wrong with these cars... unfortuantly, I can't afford to get rid of this POS... They loose their value so fast, I owe more than the thing is worth. thanks for letting me vent... hope you other impala guys have better luck than I....

Another thing to add to the list... I had to replace the radiator fan assembly. This is the 2nd one I've done on this car in the last 3 years...... I did it myself...cost 220 bucks..... Still haven't fixed the window regulators......

You have bad luck? Erm.
I've never had any of those problems, seems like an awful lot in repairs, but someone arleady pointed out getting in line for spending more then the cars worth. I spent 2600 for a new Tranny when I only paid 4500 for my car... just so you know that plenty of us shell out a crapload into our cars.

Just a good FYI here. I saved a lot of money in replacing 2 window regulators. What I did was bought the regulators from a dealer at wholesale (you can also get pretty good prices at gmparts.com) and then went to an autoglass store (Autolite glass) and they installed each one for 60 bucks each. So, this is a much better way to get your regulator replaced, if you ever have the unfortunate luck to have to replace them. The dealers want way too much for this... I was quoted $1100 to have 2 replaced at one GM dealer. This way, I only spent $450 to have them both replaced...including the parts.

Hello everyone I also own a 2000 chevy impala that 3 of the 4 regulators went out on. I love the car but the window problems suck. If It happens to you do your self a favor and replace it your self..it is pretty easy if you google it there are instructions if your not sure how. You can buy the regulators for about 85 for the front and around 50 - 60 dollars for all the others. The problem with it is not the regulator its the design. When went to install one I notice that when I went to bolt the motor in the cable had to be pushed in about 2 inches so the natural arc of the cable is bent inward. This puts pressure on the cable as well as the little plastics stays that connect to the slide and over time it breaks. I took mine and marked where the motor should set ( This is where the motor sits after you have installed the regulator and the cable sits with out bend or stress on it) mark it and drill new holes. It is pretty easy , It will sit over about 2 inches over and up about a inch higher this takes the stress off it and it will probally never break again. Its just a shame that the dumb ass making 50 per hour in the plant did not catch the mistake as well as the engineer that designed it and set the mesurments wrong. ...could have save all of us a lot of trouble. THis is the kind of shit that makes our american cars un competitive and all of us stuck with the bill bailing them out. Well any way good luck..

Regulators seem to be a problem area in general - just check out ebay listings and all the mfr's are covered. Had one go out on my 00 Caravan, and also regulator trouble for dr and pass windows for a 00 Hyundai Elantra, which I was able to fix by jury rig in both cases.

I've got so many bugs that showed up after the warranty expired ('03 bought in 12/05) :screwy:that I am done with GM products, and I was practically raised on them.:banghead:
