I like it but then again I don't. The nose seems to stick to far out and I'm not feeling the front grill. It'd look better if the car was squeezed together a little more and the grill was enlarged with the headlights bumped down.

I personaly think they are croosing the 4th gens with the SSR, retro style, and that's not to my taste really. I'd rather see something new, more like a 5th gen than a 1st/2nd gen makeover.

we can let this slide, because he already said he knew the issue was beat to death, but was posting the new pic that is painted up like a yenko. But ill PM formula and hypsi about weather or not we need a sticky on it.

well as easy as that is, its also kind of annoying, so its easier for us to just post up a sticky telling everyone to stop posting about the 2005 or later camaros until they have somthing solid.

The new camaro is going to need better high speed aerodynamics if it is going to compete in todays market. A yenko car would need to be good for 180 mph. That thing is shaped too much like a brick. They would need to apply some of the new knowledge from the vette.

I ain't diggin the styling either.

the rims look like the SS-R wheels, something needs to be done about the headlights, back to the drawing board for GM

The car does look a little ugly, it's missing a few key components that has been used in the Camaro since it's been around. Also I posted this because it doesnt look like any of the other 'concept' or whatever future pics of a camaro

I couldnt see the Pic/site you had there........ but, In a recent issue of "Popular Hot Rodding" They had a "Inside" letter from Bob Lutz in there. Anyway it said basically that They had been taking bids on contracts making a 2007 camaro on the Zeta platform but they have been having financial difficulty so they closed plans for it ( and a couple other new cars) i dont remember exactly what it said. but i havnt heard anybody say anything about it . anyway something new to thing over if you havnt already read it ( if it is true or not)

89IROC&RS
06-14-2005, 09:55 PM
well, the "financial difficulty" is that they have decided to put all their available funds into the new trucks, apparently chevy is under an identity crisis and thinks its GMC. so all funding for new vehicles has been diverted to the truck department. This movement of resources has put a delay on the zeta platform and all other car programs.

HAVE YOU SEEN AN 05 MUSTANG?!?!

Sexy isn't it :smokin:

Really though if Chevy does a retro thing they're going to have a little bit of the same problem. I think a retro Camaro would be more aerodynamic than the '05 Mustangs but not much. The front grill is probably what kills the Mustang there and what would get the Camaro.

I heard that the f-body that's comming is going to have a different name... but could possibly sport the camaro name on it (legal bs) as much as i like the new concept for the camaro... maybe if we want it back for good the retro needs to go... the public is gunna start puking up retro cars pretty soon.... although the idea of a new camaro based on the 69's is pretty damned sexy

89IROC&RS
06-15-2005, 09:50 AM
I really dont think the new camaro will need to do 190 to be competitive. Nowadays when it comes to muscle cars, people dont really care about top end, in all honesty i really dont. 0-60 and 1/4 mile times are what matter. The new mustang sets an important example, in a world were aerodynamics have made every car from every manufacterer look the same, ford chose to go with looks over aerodynamics, and they hit a home run. or at least a tripple. For a long time now ive been hoping that they would abandon the cookie cutter aerocar and make something that actually had personality. When the camaro comes back, i hope thats the direction they take. so long as its a long nose, short deck, two door V8 with rear wheel drive and a bad ass attitude. ill be happy.

FireFox05
06-15-2005, 11:55 AM
That's a good point.I hope they don't go retro still. I mean, do we really want a short, flattend SSR being badged as a new camaro? Look what they did with the GTO, just rebadged a Holden Commodore.

So I hope they go down a new road, come up with something original.

THis isn't official but I heard last night from a friend whos a supermod at the site GMinsiders, that rumors started flying that an announcemnt will come veeeeeery soon about "a certain 2 dr RWD coupe from chevy," and that 2-3 months ago GM entered talks with the CAW, "news has been travelling fast... there seems to be a lot of alk in Chevy's camp"... take it or leave it this is the latest rumor... but GMI has a tendency of being right, let's hope so.

Not sure about you guys, but when I look at this I see a Mazda RX8, not just the grill, the whole damned car!

And btw, Yenko was an outside company that modified Camaro's for Chevrolet (sort of like Saleen Mustangs, I guess). They only did either 40 or 400, one or ther other, of the 69's - from memory so forgive me if I'm wrong.

The only thing on this drawing I'm ok with is the rims. The ass end of that car is way to short (like an RX8). I'd pesonally like to see a brand new car with hallmarks of the older cars, not a re-vamped 30-40 year old car. I especially hate the ass ends of the new Mustangs. It looks like they couldn't come up with a decent design and just fudged the old design... actuall the whole car looks that way to me.

All I can say is I hope GM decides to drop a 454 in one of the new ones.

FireFox05
06-15-2005, 02:45 PM
Nah, they need to put the 572 in there..... unfortunently, 12 MPG won't sell all that great. but 650 HP on pump gas will.

89IROC&RS

um, actually Yenko was a dealership owned by Don Yenko, not a company like saleen. and there were 69 ZL1 camaros made in 1969, and two ZL1 corvettes.

as far as the powerplant, i like to be realistic. The camaro has rarely been a big block car. and the only bad ass ones were from the first generation and can be counted on one hand. From that point on all bad ass camaros were small blocks. Id love to see a return of the 302. in LS2 trim can we say 9-10k rpm potential from the factory. and for nostalgia, the 327 is already being offered in the trucks as the Vortec 5300, throw on some performance parts and drop it in a camaro. cut the weight, make it a 3000lbs car rather than 3600lbs. keep the main points of the camaro design without being worn out and tired. ive already brought it up, but i stil think a Chevy version of the holden TT36 with a camaro body would be bad ass.

Oh and why does everyone rip on the Monaro based GTO??? that car is awesome. It looks good, it runs great, its rwd, six speed, 6.0L V8, and 400hp. To be quite honest, i think chevy needs to be taking alot more than one car from holden, that company at least still knows how to build bad ass cars. something chevy has forgotten how to do (barring the vette, and cobalt SS) Id like to give them credt for putting the 5.3L 303hp V8 in the monty carlo and impalla for next year, but they are still front wheel drive, who wants that much power in a front wheel drive car, can we say torque steer. Just dosnt make sense, but i guess its a step in the right direction.

FireFox05
06-15-2005, 03:46 PM
I wasn't ripping on it, I just don't think it should have been named the GTO is all. Holden cars are indeed very awesome, I love them.

Earlsfat
06-15-2005, 04:02 PM
Thanks Iroc, kind of thought that limb I was going out on was cracking a little.

On the new GTO... They should have badged it the SOBSEE. (Same Old Body Style as Everything Else.) Performance wise it may be "bad-ass" but it looks like a damn granny car. What happened to Pontiac??? The concept car looked awesome and then some retard democrat got a hold of it and pussed it up. Don't care what the damn thing does, I wouldn't drive it if it looks like THAT. (They should have painted the damn thing pink.)

I'm so digusted with what the manufacturers are putting out (aesthetically speaking) that I don't even bother reading the car mags anymore. The 40's through early 70's are the onnly years that american manufacturers' cars had any class. Now they all have the same exact class, boring.

FireFox05
06-15-2005, 04:04 PM
It's probably because they are all trying to sell, and peoples tastes are tending towards what we have now.

Still sucks though.

Rally Sport
06-15-2005, 07:36 PM
I have to agree with Earlsfat, really the only the that didnt look like anything else was the Camaro/Firebird. It's funny that the competing cars in the same class look alike and have mainly the same HP rating, just depends on what you want seeing. A Bowtie, a ram head, or a blue oval.

philly rs
06-15-2005, 08:27 PM
i have to agree with that gto statement, pontiac has a bunch of cars that look just alike, grand prix, grand am, g6, gto, hell all clone cars. but they do lay down good numbers and they drive nice.

drvngstorm05
06-15-2005, 09:04 PM
i have to disagree with all of u on the GTO thing. i think the damn thing looks awesome as hell and downright sexy. to each their own but i sure hope u guys have seen one up close and personal, because i saw the pics long before the car itself and it bored me. i went and saw an '05 GTO in person and i was awestruck, it isn't outrageously styled, but look long and hard at it and think about it, u may see what i'm talking about. i can't honestly describe it, but that thing is by far one of the hottest things on the road (at least in my opinion).

but then again, if u think about something else. the first GTO wasn't outrageously styled, in that time, it looked just like every other car. but it had subtlities that were on the agressive side, and it had power where it counts. now think about the new GTO, body lines are common, has subtle agressive points, and power where it counts...

if u ask me, GM hit the GTO idea right on the nose. perfect. my only complaint is that it is slightly on the expensive side...

Muscletang
06-15-2005, 09:46 PM
I guess the GTO is either a love or hate thing. I haven't heard from a soul that says "I like it some." Either you'll love this thing and will cream your pants as you touch it...or you'd rather see how fast it can go...out of an airplane 10,000 feet up.

Rally Sport
06-15-2005, 10:08 PM
I love the GTO, I really dont care what people say about it just being a high powered Gran Prix because I dont like how they look but the GTO does look sexy to me, so I dont know, just take the wing off when you get it and you're good to go. :)

When I went to the Pontiac dealership to get a copy of my key made, they had an midnight black 05 GTO sitting right outside the door. Still had the window stickers on and the seats still wrapped in plastic. The first thing i asked the guy when I went to the counter is if he could pop the hood on it, I was dieing to see the motor. And man, that 6.0 made my jaw drop farther than it had ever been. I love that car, despite what others think.. I think it's awesome. I love how it's got that low profile scheem and yet contains a Corvette powerhouse. That's genius. I'll tell ya, if I could afford it, I'd buy it. But as drvngstorm05 mentioned, it is a little pricey. They wanted 38K something for the one I was looking at.

Rally Sport
06-15-2005, 11:29 PM
The reason it's so pricey is because it practically IS a Corvette except it doesnt have the same suspension.
