tranny fluid change

I have a 98 with the 3.8...

how many quarts of mercon will the tranny take to fill when just dropping the pan and changing the filter?

A drain and fill by the book says 4.5 quarts. With the torque converter 12.25 total although mine when they did the flush and fill used 14 quarts or at least thats what they charged for.
