Turn off traction control...Line lock would be the way to go though. Kills only tires not brakes as well.

turn off the traction control, rev it up to 3.5 and dump it and immediately put half pressure on the brake pedal and 100% on the gas allowing the rear tires to gain speed while the cars remains stationary. turning the steering wheel to the left or right also gets the back end more loose.

Can brake torques cause major damage for your car? Can it mess anything up like the gears and differential?

Pewter'01SS

I'd imagine it is harder on your car than driving it normally but I've never really heard of anything going wrong as far as drivetrain goes. (Neutral slams are a different story :uhoh: )

Personally, I think any car can brake torque so it really doesn't impress me much, no matter what car is doing it. If someone tells you to spin the tires (and they will...) turn off the traction control, get rolling about 15mph, then dump the clutch.

in an 01 ss? if u wanna make sure that the only thing ur hurting is tires, just get in an open area, slowly let off the clutch to start rolling, then as soon as the clutch is fully engaged just punch it, ur car has more than enough power to light 'em up from there...

How to burn out... in an SS? Dude, you don't need to know how to burn out, manual or auto, just push the gas. It burns out. >_> (taking off traction control of course.)

You should be able to just floor it from a stand still and get some tires spinning Come on guys. I have a 6er and I can light 'em up all the way thru 2nd gear!

with regards to the traction control, I'm looking around for a 93-96ish z28, how many of them had traction control and a switch?(it was an option right?)

dude i have a fukin 2.8 pos and i can get em to do a little chirp. but i can do a pretty mean burn out if i do some mad donut burnouts in a feild then go onto the road and floor that shit and theyll spin.and dont use brakes well if your just showing off dont use brakes. i dont believe thats a real burn out, thats just like a pussy burn out if your showing off. you should just use your cars mad amounts of power and roast em.

Bastards don't have one for a 70. Mine won't hold still. Run it up to about 5-6k, jam it in first, let the clutch out... lights em up for about 3 seconds then BLAM!!!! 60 mph. I NEED A LINE LOCK BADLY, CAN'T DO A BURNOUT.

I have to be easy with my car because it will still spin if i punch it in second and third. Not horribly bad but in first if i nail it it's very very bad...

Work on your clutching. :P Should be able to hold onto the beast for 5-10 seconds with all your hp.. Maybe its your munchie. What gear ratio are you in, posi lsd or open?

you calling me and my car a pussy?

i just said to get them going, a stock (assumings its stock) camaro is going to get decent traction, im telling the man how to do a B.U.R.N.O.U.T., not a quick break in traction before your car gets up to as fast as your wheels are spinning.

rev it up, dump the clutch, tap the breaks wind out first, while your still sitting still spinning at 38 mph throw it in 2nd and burn em at 60 mph, tap the breaks a few more times, turn the wheel all the way to the left and then back to the right,

you'll have bitches throwing their painties at you

and in my opinion, all burnouts is showing off, unless you are at the track

im talking about how all the guys that think they are all that and the whole burnout is them with their brakes to the floor and the gas to the floor and their rotors glowing red, like i saw an suv guy trying to burn out he just holds brakes the whole time and floors it sounds like cars gonna blow up then he loses tracktion and burns out and everyone thinks hes cool even though hs car cant do a burn out using just pure power. jeeze though lets all flip out cause 88camaroproject think burn outs with your brake to the floor the whole time are GAY... lol not being an ass hole just my opinion you dont have to agree, plus you said tap the brakes evey once and a while to keep from taking off, thats all good but not smashing them to the floor the whole time. (damn i need to lear to type better, good lck readiong al this crap with missing letters and such, lol) peace out im tired

WEll just chirping your tires when you mash the go button isnt a burnout. Burnouts are taken to be your car being still, tires spinning, lots of smoke... shit, one time the fire department got called on one I did and that was with my open diff (search for one of the first rthreads i ever started). You need to use your brakes... if you have a linelock then you fronts are still and nothings holding your rears and they can just spin... otherwise you need to anage it so youre using just enough brake to keep still but not so much as to stop the tires. We're talking about actualy burnouts, not pussy chiprs to use your terminology

not sure how to take that, but powerbraking isn't a bad thing... why do u hate it, if people are dumb enough to think that alot of smoke means powerful car then that's their own fault. any car can do massive burnouts, but that doesn't make them any less cool. i did it all the time

gotta love the smell of burnt rubber, but u can sit there w/ ur thumb up ur ass, cuz u can't burn any other way. i know i had a 305tbi, and i powerbraked it cuz i couldn't spin w/out it

Obviously its fun......, just not the way you were talking about.
Waist of brakes.

drvngstorm05
06-08-2005, 03:21 AM
is really doesn't do that much to brakes, alot of people think it is terrible for them but it really isnt... its just like normal driving... its like hitting the brakes at 40mph... all it is is the pad touching the rotor or shoe on the drum, nothing different than applying ur brakes when driving, it doesn't wear any faster than normal driving.

just think of it as using 2 or 3 stops that u would have b4 u have to replace the pads/shoes... its not like u have to replace brakes often anyway, and u make god knows how many stops a day, so u won't notice a difference

yea at any speed up 65 i can light my tires at will, as for any other f-body you should be able to light your tires up w/o at problem under 20mph or else you need to learn to drive, take of traction control, or do some mods so you can to enjoy a healthy burnout

Xeno, not cool at man. I did that before and thats how i did that 180 in an inetrsection, facing oncoming traffic. Goodthing it was ared light for them and no one behind me, could've been ugly. But i love on the rainy days and your at a red light, plenty of people (no cops though) around, when the light turns green, just gun it. Tires spin for like 10secs. no one else is moving cuz all they hear is tires screamin, and i got a big as grin on my face  . It's amazing how people think you're car is a powerful when you do thing like that, but... then again it is a camaro. What is a camaro without power?

Posi, traction bars, etc... all I know is it hooks up like right away. Sucks you back into your seat and shit starts getting blurry and WOOOHOOOOOO!

Shit, I've got an '02 Silverado with ~310-320 hp, and I can't break traction from a standstill. Every once in a while I can get my rear wheels to chirp, but everyone tells me it is the "fault" of my LSD. Whoa.

2: Yeah posi and big tires will make it hard to spin your tires too...

If you guys really want to do it just get a hose going out on a street get the ground nice and wet and have fun.

If you want to see real burnouts you have to go to the dragstrip. Line lock on, extra large slicks spinning faster as you hear and see the car shift through the gears. The only reason to do one is to heat up the slicks for better traction before a run.

Anything on the street with street tires is just a smoke show (big deal) :sleeping:and does nothing but choke people out.

Watching a full body car yank the front end off the ground on the starting line, now that's cool!:22yikes:

reason i didn't recommend that is because if it is an 01 ss, it can easily break something if u do that... way to much power, they shred factory clutches and pop 10 bolts like crazy

It must be tough living life like that... too much power to burnout

When you "just punch it" your putting alot of stress on the entire drive train, and risk breaking something. The only safe way to do a burnout (safe for your car) is a line lock or power brake.

Now I cant believe you tryed to power brake in a STICK SHIFT car. I just cant believe anyone know knows how to drive stick would do something like that.

/edit: Also, any self respecting car lover would never dump the clutch, do you guys own camaros because they are fast? Or do you truly have a love for the car?
