cold air intake

I have been thinking about about purchasing a cold air intake for 1992 sc. I have heard these are good for increasing performance however i also read the companies selling these state they are not responsible for water and debrie (spell check) being sucked in causing damage to the engine. What are the possibilities of these causing harm to my engine?

Depends on the placement and also the shape of the intake tube,

But since you relocate the intake and filter to outside of the engine bay (where air is cooler) it makes it likely to happen in very bad weather,
It is very often located in the wheel well :rolleyes:

The K&N kits are available now with a membrane that goes over the filter to reduce the risk of water damage.

Also stay clear of the shorter snorkel kits that postion the filter under the hood where it's going to suck in all that hot air.(eg Ractive Universal kits etc) The first thing i do when dyno running cars for "street racers" is yank off those with the after market filter postioned under the hood and repostion/extend it to get cold air. As stated above this does normally postion it in the wheel well area,where it will also get dirty more quickly also. Just avoid standing water with these setups.

thats the guy i have, the hot air isn't that big of a factior IMHO(its not like its attached to the exhaust manifold) and its alot safer
