im torn between 3 trucks the f150, the 99-02 silverado and the 99-02 gmc sierra truck they all seem to be awesome trucks when you mod them up and I got about 12k to spend im doing lots of research and im not drawing up any conclusions to anything although I can see that the silverado forum seems to be the most active between the three and you guys dont seem to have to many proplems with your trucks I just hope I dont make the wrong choice... luck of the draw????? can some one increase my odds with some data they can prove about these three trucks ????? what would be the best choice ??? :shakehead

Well, fords suck. And as far as the Silverado vs Sierra, there's not $10 worth of difference, so get the one you think looks better

a ford with 110,000 is almost worn out. at that mileage a chey is just broken in.

ANY truck anywhere near 100K miles is worn out. Only exception I'd take would be one that had been given a clean bill of health by an ASE certified disinterested 3rd party. Take whatever you're looking at buying to a trusted mechanic (that has NO ties to the dealer) and have it checked. Spend a little up front to save a lot in the long run.

F150's are good trucks if you can get past the looks.

The brand new Fords are by far the best looking ones Ford has ever produced. The syles before are all horrendous. Plus you have to worry about the ignition switch catching fire. But all trucks have problems. We can't make your mind up for you. If you want a faster truck stock get the Chevy/GMC with the 5.3L. If for some reason you opt for the Lightning, make sure it's a 99, everyone I've ever talked to said the 99 was the best year for the Lightning.

I'll agree that the slab sided things are a step above the '97-'03 models, but only slightly IMO. Obviously a lot of folks think otherwise, as the F150 is no slouch sales wise. I prefer the looks of the older models in the Ford line. I had a '62 F100 unibody (intregal cab/ box) a couple years ago that was very cool!

Lets see let me break it down for ya!!
Ford has the 5.4l V8 thast puts down 260hp @ 4500 rpm and 350 ftrq @ 2500 rpm... Imediatley after the rpm Peak power slots the power falls off dramatically!!!!
GM on the other hand has 290hp @ 5300 rpm and 330ftrq @ 4000 rpm. The major difference is that the peak torque and power DO NOT drop off the map after they see their peak rpm!!!
Results on stock vehicles:
ECSB ford 5.4 V8 17.3 in the 1/4 mile
ECSB GM 5.3 V8 16.7 in the 1/4 mile
RCSB ford 5.4 V8 16.5 in the 1/4 mile
RCSB GM 5.3 V8 15.7 in the 1/4 mile
Lets talk modifacation now!!
It takes an exhaust, headers, intake, supercharger @ 8 psi for an ECSB Ford f150 to make it down to the 14's in the 1/4. Take the same exact mods and put them on the ECSB GM and its running mid 13's!!
GM takes better to after market support where as the only ford's need alot of work to make them run strong!!! To better prove my point...I know you weren't here to see it but i just raced a 00 mustang GT with exhaust, intake, and god knows what else, in my 01 ECSB silverado w/ 5.3l and smoked him off the line all the way up to 95mph then shut it down, and this is after I'm already about 3 car lengths in front of him!!!!!

IMO I repeat, IMO, Ford makes a better truck. Chevy makes a better engine.
With that said, I drive an '03, 1500 4x4 with a 9" lift and 315's. I HAVE piston slap, but no other problems to speak of. I have driven Fords and Chevy's with the same amount of mileage; anywhere from 15,000 to 120,000 miles and they both had their own problems. It all depends on YOUR taste and the previous owner(s).
Just last week we went shopping for a 3/4 ton diesel to pull our 5th wheel. I drove a F-250 Powerstroke with 76,000 miles, then drove a Silverado Duramax with 32,000 miles. The Ford blew it away in the "rattle and squeak" department. The Chevy made me think twice if it would make it back to the Dealer it rattled so much. Obviously the Ford had been taken care of throughout it's life, while the Chevy had not.
If you buy new, I suggest driving both and NOT caring what the HP or Torque #'s are. Buy what you want and don't be concerned with others opinions or thoughts. They are both great brands. Oh yeah,
(Pssssst. test drive Nissan Titan before you buy too)

lol. autos have the ability to hold more power? not ford autos. i dont think i would have asked his question on a chevy forum, but here we are haha. i would say the 3 biggest reasons to go chevy r: looks- other than maybe the old 67-72 bodies, 99-02 r definitely the best looking and cleanest truck bodies from anyone. 2: engine- can anyone say LS1? everything interchanges. best v8 from anyone ever. and 3: that auto that was mentioned. ford never has and never will build anything near chevy's hydramatics. and lightnings r big bucks. id rather have a 454 ss just for the big block even tho its older and not as quick. i mean its a big block chevy- cool in any car or truck. keep ur lightning gimme slowpro's truck.

Why? You'll immediately want to trade in your Chevy. ;)
They're f'ing awesome trucks. The 5.6L has assloads of power. I'm sure it's hella thirsty too. Fortunately, I test drove a buddy's long before I bought my Chevy, so by the time I bought it, I'd forgotten how nice it felt to drive his Titan.
If I were a rich man (and owned my own gas station) I'd probably have a Titan crew cab.
I don't know why it is they're offering the V6 in the Pathfinder (based on the Titan) but not offering the V6 in the Titan. They'd probably pull more gas-conscious buyers in if they did that..

Are you even old enough to drive? Your questions are getting REALLY annoying. At this point, there's enough info on this site about Silverados to write volumes on them. The bottom line? about 98% of us on this board are very satisfied with our Silverados. There is nothing more that we can tell you. Go buy a truck or bicycle or something, but quit asking stupid questions. You want a Ford? Go buy a Ford! You want a Toyota? Go buy a Toyota! You want to take a crap on a photo of a Siverado? Well, you can do that, too. Just quit being a damn troll.

He's got a valid question. Piston slap is serious and potentially very expensive to fix. Problem is, if a truck doesn't have it when purchased, it's virtually impossible to predict if it will develop in 10 miles or 50k miles. It has changed my mind for a future purchase. Maybe it will sway him too.

Nissan 5.6L - 305hp/379ft/lb torque
I am by no means saying you are wrong, but there's not a whole lot of difference here. Nissan's #'s are on par or sub par for the difference between the two displacements. Again, I am by no means saying you were wrong about your assessment of the Titan after having driven one, but I just thought I would throw some numbers out there. I got those figures from Nissan's and Chevrolet's websites.

if it's the 4.7L (or whatever dodge uses that's near that size), it's crap. It makes like 235 hp or something like that.

235?? I belive the silvers go up closer to 300??? what about style points??? not say that hp does not matter.... because it does maybe thats why the price is so low??? but keep in mind that aftermarket can change that remember... what do you think blender???

Yep, the Dodge 4.7L produces 235hp. That's doo doo. http://www-5.dodge.com/vehsuite/VehicleCompare.jsp Click the 4.7L. Add ons can help that, sure, but doubtful it could get close to GM's 4.8L without a ton of money. Chevy's 4.8L is rated @ 285 HP, and the 5.3L is rated at 295 HP. As far as style goes, Dodge would be my #3 choice, next to the Chevy and GMC.

Oh yeah,
(Pssssst. test drive Nissan Titan before you buy too)
I totally agree about the engines in chevy's have always been superior. Example: rarely will you ever see a boat with a 460 cid ford, 99% have 454's. For one simple fact..they are extremly durable and dependable. ford big blocks have problem with throwing rods (I'm am baseing this on 10 years ago). BUT... the engine is just 1 componet, all vechiles have there own common problems. How good is powertrain managment? Brakes? rear axles? Transmissions (this is a big factor when it comes to towing). Like those toyota tundra's have power, but load down the vechicle and climb the Cajon pass, you will have to floor the pedal to stay at your same speed. And the transmission overheats to a near meltdown. Has anyone drove a truck w/454? You notice that even loaded down, the chevy big blocks produce so much low RPM torqu, that no intrease on gas pedal is needed. But I am sure u are not wanting he 7.4 litre. These are just suggestion's. of other driveline problems. I suggest geting a hold of TSB's.

With the money you have stashed away, you better go with the Chevy/GM. You'll have many more (and better options) when you talk about mods. Chevy/GM take the mods better, with fewer problems.

Hell yes
Ford's truck is better except in any way that counts. Maybe they use a higher quality paint?

Ok, Roush built the Roush ford truck, just like Saleen built the Saleen Mustang. They take a ford, gut it, and start over. It's hardly a ford product anymore. ALLL Saleen mustangs start out as v6 models. Saleen does thatbecause the mustang bodies can be had cheaper if they get a base model. They then toss the engine, tranny, suspension and brakes and start over. I'm sure Roush has similar methods.

the harley davidson F150? haha. theyre all about makin money for H-D and ford. the lightning was nice, but ford musta taken some of the stupid pills that told chevy to kill the camaros when they got rid of em. and forget the SS. $40K? no. spend the money on the Gibbs Silverado. supercharged lightning beater.

The 4.7L in the Dodge gets crappy gas mileage, per my neighbor. I'm sure the Hemi is nice and all, but could you afford to keep the tank full in that one too?
I get at least 330 miles from full to 1/4 tank (I try not to go below that) on a 24 gallon tank with my 4.8L. I can't tell you what I used to get with my 5.2L 2001 Ram or my 5.9L 1996 Ram. I never bothered to check.
As for your question about whether or not anyone's test driven the new Ram. I did. Sure, its nice and all, but I knew that 4.7L wasn't going to cut it in that size of a truck.
Seems to me that everyone's already given you their opinion. GM's got a heck of a deal going on now towards new vehicles (employee discounts to everyone). If you're looking to buy, now's the time to do so.

I thought we all had 26 gallon tanks? Also, I know what you mean about the discounts... i bought used back in march, and now, for just a little more, i coulda gotten new. It's just a little irritating.
