I think my mistake was I bought (gulp) FORD's (a truck & a bronco) for beaters... go ahead and flame me, I deserve it. My prick mechanic talked me into it, TWICE (I'll never understand how... he should be a fucking car salesman, he obviously sucks as a mechanic) and I sold them for what I bought them for, so all in all I made out alright, but you wanna talk about a money pit. FORD Motor Company = Full Of Retarded Designers.

Beaters are great cheap transportation, Xeno sell everything you've got and buy a $75 caprice and then go buy a new maro.

And I can't afford to buy a new car and keep the maro. My maro was 4500 and i've put 3k into maintence over last 5 months. I can't afford it. :P Quit complaining.

'85 Nova (corolla w/chevy tags)- $50, wouldn't run, new plugs and wires, ran until the day I sold it 3 years later, accident settelment with it $650, bought my 87 Buick for wife, then sold it (Nova) a year later for $500. Oh and got around 28 mpg

87' Buick PA - $400 still going 6 years later

'85 Caprice - $75. "bad trans" adjust Tv cable, shifted like a charm, ran quiet started every time. Sold after 2 years $800.

'85 Z28 - $400, "blown rings" leaky valve guides, so what.

'81 Pontiac T1000- $0, dumbass fried elect. system, in progress of repair.

$2K honda or $400 buick or $75 caprice... If money's REALLY that tight you would be looking to talk to WrightZ28 and get hooked up with a CHEAP beater and fix your maro.

Get a free Charger, GREAT! I personally am over the Dukes of Hazzard and don't like Mopar AT ALL. Worked for a Mechanic for a while and these 2 guys with Chargers.... you wanna talk moneypit? They redefine the term, these guys could have bought new cars for what they had in REPAIRS for stupid shit. Free usually = worthless unless the person doesn't know what they have then free = stealing. To some that may be ok, but as far as I'm concerned it ain't cool. Now if they insist on it being free, then it's probably a total shit box, your problem, they just got you to haul it away for nothing. But hey, you may be right, good luck. No whining when it doesn't work out though.

Its a good friend/co worker who has a full plate with his family and frankly ran out of interst restoring it. Engine is rebuilt, body is rebuilt, only needs new tranny & interior.

Oh, I didn't put it on the beater list, but, I did my '68 Rambler for free, just wanted it gone, and it's in good shape, just needed 12 years of mothballs knocked out of it.

BTW, was eyeballing a '94 Grand Am for $750, one owner, ok miles (114K) garage kept, just a well off person iwth no need for their car anymore. There are alot of good deals for under 2k.

My dad had a charger and it "nickled and dimed me to death" as he says. Plus you're just going to let it sit and rot and then you're going to have even more work to do to it.

Fact is no matter what car you buy its gonna need constant work and attention. My family has an obsurd 8 cars in the driveway, i work on all of them, honda, dodge, ford, infinity, and chevy. and they all require work to keep them running. So Xeno if you are planning on living work free with the honda, you are sadly mistaken. Also, i strongly suggest you back off the "living at home" angle. I live at home, and while i dont pay rent in money i do it through hard labor. I do all the yardwork and house maintanence that my dad cant do anymore, and i keep all the cars running. On top of that i pay for everything for my cars, the only thing i dont pay for is school which my parents cover. There are alot of guys here that are in similar situations.

On the flipside guys, we all know how expensive our girls can be. one of the only reasons i was able to keep my two camaros was because i was working at the chevy dealership making good money, and getting my parts at cost and alot of free help. Xeno has a good connection at a honda dealership, and it makes sense that he would take advantage of it. id like to point out that while my camaros are not street legal i am driving my sisters 1990 honda accord, any of you think im not still in love with my camaros? i miss them horribly i just cant drive them right now. xeno is in a similar position where he just cant afford to drive the camaro and needs something less expensive. i dont think that something like that, which is beyond his control, is something we should be giving him a hard ime about as its prolby already hard enough on him.

That being said i think this thread needs to be closed due to yall's behavior. I dont see anything constructive coming out of it, and its not having a good impact on the forum as a whole. Lets try to be a bit more open minded on both sides.
