I saw a Z8 yesterday a few blocks away frmo my house. I tried to get him to race me but he refused. Nice car though.

Yeah they are tight cars...0-60 in just under 5 seconds...Yep I would say they are fast are conservative looking...Not TOO aggressive.

igor@af

they are on sale already??
didn't know that...

did he think that he is too cool for a Z06 or something?

Damn, 128 K + prolly about 20 or 30 K so your lookin at about 160 out the door. I'd rather get a Porsche 911 Turbo. My .02

It is a nice car though. I've actually seen two around town. 1 in my neighboorhood and one while I was out driving. It might have been the same one though.

I dont really like it.
Still, an S2000 would get killed, as it goes 0-60 in 4.2 seconds.

Chris
09-21-2001, 01:05 PM
Oops, wrong Z06 character. Your the guy with well over 400 hp, and in the 11's. You would have killed him. Perhaps he "recognize(d) your auth-or-it-y" Oh well.

0-60 in 4.2 secs is all good, but apparently it doesnt go around corners quite like it should.

Its best to look at the Z8 as a Grand Tourer, not a sports car. Then it all of a sudden seems better.

Fair enough, but when everyone saw the pics and learnt that it would be the awesome M5 engine powering it, they thought they'd be getting a supercar. I personally would have much preferred that, as it's something I am sure BMW could have pulled off

oh well, never mind

Chris

I also would have prefered a supercar, but BMW probably figured they would look better by making something comfy, so people wouldnt associate them with loud and thrashy.

crayzayjay
11-07-2001, 03:31 PM
Supercars dont have to be "loud and thrashy". Look at the 996 Turbo. An extremely fast, accomplished supercar. However, it's luxurious and wouldn't scare your gran!

No excuses, BMW needs to deliver a supercar. The company won't look good if all major global players are there except itself.

So come on BMW, how about a Z8M?:D :D
cheers
jay

The S2000 doesn't go 0-60 in 4.2 seconds, it goes 0-60 in about 5.9 seconds. Plus the high-revving Honda (Had One Never Did Again) is about 100K cheaper than the Z8. There are positives and negatives to both cars:
Honda:
pro:very sharp styling, a blast to drive, 6-speed, very high revving,
con: not much low end torque, long term, will probably not fare well because cars revving at 8,000 revs don't last long.

BMW: (Bought my Wife)
pro: excellent handling, excellent interior, way cool steering wheel, excellent acceleration, your arrival is an event, excellent handling, like a true BMW
con: sell your house to buy one, wait list, prime meat for auto strippers, for 130,000 you could buy something faster and sleeker (996 turbo, acura NSX)

Hmm... If you have it, spend it. If you spend it, flaunt it.

I meant the Z8 went 0-60 in 4.2 seconds.
To explain my earlier post: The guy here with the name Z06Lover has an S2000 (it was cheaper than a Vette). Mr. Corvette Z06 has a massively powerful vette, with well over 420hp (500?? who knows..)

Great looking cars. I saw one in the showroom @ Long Beach BMW. I understand they go $50k over premium. Wow! That'd put it up there with the Porsche GT2 in price range, and I think I'd rather settle for the latter, in that case.

Besides the tag on the back, how can you tell the difference between a GT2 and 911 Turbo? I think that the Carrera/Turbo/GT2/3 all look too similar.

Chris
01-01-2002, 10:27 PM
A GT2 has a fixed rear wing (that is, not automatically adjusting), so its always up). The GT2 has yellow-painted brake calipers (opposed to red). The GT2 has larger air intakes, and wider tires.
But they do look fairly similiar.

Nice in a straight line, and thats about it. SL AMG whips it, not often that Mercedes out-BMW's BMW

I like the Z8. I tried it out last summer, as my friend insisted because he wanted to show it off as much as possible :) It is very fun to drive, with the wind rushing through your hair...

well...
itīs a real cabriolet
not a mollycoddle cabriolet like the mercedes sl

crayzayjay
11-10-2002, 08:53 AM
Mollycoddle?

Even though im a bigger BMW than Merc fan, i have to admit the Z8 doesnt match the SL. Not even close. I dont understand how BMW made the car and how they marketed it. It could have been so much better

Menu dei Motori

mollycoddle.. that was in the lexikon for the gemran word "warmduscher" or "weichei"

the sl is no cabriolet..
no wind going thhrough your hair...
and too exclusive interior

I do not really like mercedes, they are too soft, not real hard sportscars.

Menu dei Motori
11-10-2002, 05:15 PM
yea.. mercedes sux

crayzayjay
11-12-2002, 06:55 AM
OK, Merc doesnt make hardcore drivers cars but i wouldnt say their cars suck! Mercedes make some excellent cars and the SL is exquisite, especially the AMG version, which im sorry to say clobbers the Z8. I would like to see a more direct competitor to the M3 though, the C32 is too laid back; Merc needs to make a racer, appeal to a younger audience

hmm
my dad and mum worked 10 years for bmw maybe iīm a bit prejudiced vs mercedes...

wargh 5 min to go

crayzayjay
11-12-2002, 07:35 AM
lol.. i know what you mean... we were a 100% BMW family and now my dad has a Merc, my opinion has changed as i get to drive/ride in the car... i appreciate them a lot more now, and understand the saying "a mercedes benz is for life"... i'd rather have a BM at this age though :D

Menu, whats the deal with your electricity situation?

jsb88
11-12-2002, 08:57 AM
I have a little generator, that can keep going for 29hours before stopping. It is not very powerful, but it keeps the TV going.

crayzayjay
11-12-2002, 01:44 PM
lol... i was asking Menu

but why do u have a generator?

jsb88
11-13-2002, 02:06 AM
I know I just thought I would mention it...

We very rarely get power cuts, but when we do, they are long, so If the generator is on, then no worries!

crayzayjay
11-13-2002, 07:03 AM
where in the UK are you?

Menu dei Motori
11-13-2002, 07:39 AM
well the electricity in our street was cut off for 1 hoour...
donīt ask me why...
some street works i think..
and power cuts... the last one we had was some years ago...

if they would be more often we would also buy a generator!

jsb88
11-14-2002, 08:47 AM
I live in hertfordshire, although I have a cottage in Rutland, and a flat in London. There are power cuts in both areas, but the house in Hertfordshire has a generator.

There is no disputing its a beutiful car.But practical it is not. You'd prob get more use and bang for your buck with the S2000. Dealers out here in NYC are pricing way above MSRP and also asking for a fee to get on the waiting list. At that price I think I'd go with a Viper, Z06, or M3.

jsb88

jsb88

I am not surprised you do notv know it, it is the smallest county in Britain. :) Look up Leistershire, it is surrounded by this county. the motto for Rutland is 'Multum In Parvo' for a reason!

I don't see what is so great about it(the Z8). I own a Z3 and it is electronically limited a 115mph(i have tested it on the freeway) Say you do race a Z06. Even if it wasn't a monster 500hp car the Z06, or C5 even would win in the long run.

crayzayjay
01-12-2003, 11:31 AM
so just because of that, theres no point to the car? riiiiiiighhht..... if youre so bothered about something so stupid, take the restrictor off, duh

lowridder11
01-12-2003, 12:53 PM
You have to go buy a ECU chip and then go install i.
To much money
to much work

lowridder11
01-12-2003, 12:54 PM
even if you did put a ECU on a Z8
it could only reach about 155top speed
Z06 could top 180mph
