2001 FORD Windstar Code 1309

I bought this 2001 Ford Windstar (AS IS) had a check engine light.
Dealer claimed they would fix. ( NO SUCH LUCK). Bought an
ACTRON CP-9145 so I could read my own codes. I have a P1309 code.
The car did go to the ford dealership and they agree and also said that I had the 0171/0174. I need some help as for the P1309 issue. I have found where somebody has had this issue. I also do not or have not seen the 0171/0174 codes come up on my actron??? Does anyone have any info on this??? Thankyou

The P1309 is the Misfire Detection Monitor not Enabled. P0171 and P0174 are both banks lean. If you need diagnostics on these, post back here and I will try to summmarize repairs.

Actually do a search for 171/174 or Isolator bolts or Port seals. There are about 3 or 4 complete threads and even a link for a step by step illustrated instruction set that has help so many do the 171/174 repair.

Thanks for the come back. I have info on the 0171/0174 issue. Will this cure the P1309 problem?? Do you have more info on the P1309? I have not seen where anyone else has had this issue. Thankyou.

The only thing I know is that it is a Ford specific code hence the P1 rather than P0 beginning.

There are 2 styles of CMP(Camshaft Positioning Sensor) for your vehicle. The test HD40 is for variable reluctance and test HD41 is for the Hall Effect style. Hope it helps.

HD40 CHECK CMP SENSOR OUTPUT — PCM DISCONNECTED
Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P1309 indicates Misfire Detection Monitor is not enabled.

Disconnect PCM.
Connect digital multimeter.
Measure voltage between CMP and PWR GND circuits at the PCM harness connector.
Bump engine in short burst with the starter, without starting engine for at least 10 engine revolutions.
Does digital multimeter reading switch between low (less than 2.0 volts DC) and high (greater than 8.0 volts DC)?

Yes
Note: A Hall effect type CMP sensor that is installed out of synchronization will produce a DTC. VERIFY the correct installation by referring to the Electronic Engine Controls, Section 303-14 in the Workshop Manual. If the CMP is installed properly, REPLACE PCM (refer to Section 2, Flash Electrically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory (EEPROM)). RESTORE vehicle. COMPLETE Misfire Monitor Repair Verification Drive Cycle (REFER to Section 2, Drive Cycles). RERUN Quick Test.

No

REPLACE CMP sensor. RESTORE vehicle. COMPLETE Misfire Monitor Repair Verification Drive Cycle(REFER to Section 2, Drive Cycles). RERUN Quick Test.

HD41 CHECK CMP SENSOR OUTPUT — PCM CONNECTED
Connect PCM.
Connect digital multimeter.
Start engine and vary engine RPM.
Measure voltage between CMP and PWR GND circuits at the PCM harness connector.
Does AC voltage vary greater than 0.1 volt AC?

Yes
VERIFY the correct installation by referring to the Electronic Engine Controls, Section 303-14 in the Workshop Manual. If CMP is installed properly, REPLACE PCM (refer to Section 2, Flash Electrically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory (EEPROM)). COMPLETE Misfire Monitor Repair Verification Drive Cycle (REFER to Section 2, Drive Cycles). RERUN Quick Test.

No
REPLACE CMP sensor. COMPLETE Misfire Monitor Repair Verification Drive Cycle (REFER to Section 2, Drive Cycles).

I want to thankyou for the info. I will try it this weekend and let you all know what I find. I had also pulled manifold cover the other day to see if I had the build up of oil. I thought the new valve cover was supposed to take care of that. I guess I will dig deeper.

Frank I too have a 2001 and got the code 171-174 I thought it was my isolator bolts.I took mine apart and cleaned it out I reset my code and it went out a while. I changed my pcv valve and it came back on.So far I notice a vacuum leak will trigger this code. When I replaced it with a napa pcv valve i was told to switch back to a motorcraft.I did and my light came back on. I cleaned out the pcv valve vacuum line and cleaned the rubber gromet for good PCV valve sealing. the rubber gromet the PCV set into on the valve cover I used dish detergent and water to clean and dried it. So far with over 1000 added to the winnie no light. I would look really hard at your PCV valve replace or clean the rubber gromet first. Check your pcv valve to make sure it raddles replace with a motorcraft one about 7.00 at the dealer cheaper on rocketauto.com. Now as for the TSB issue you will only need to replace limited parts because an updated valve cover on most 2001 were put on. So the only thing I would need so far if I were to do it would be 8 isolator bolts, port seals and maybe a new vacuum line. I did notice however my EGR ports were a little dirty so they will need to be cleaned while I am in there but so far no light. I am not worried about it. So far my little test proved if you get oil around the rubber gromet that holds the pcv valve in. It will become loose and will let air in causing a vacuum leak and trigger the engine light. As for the other code I dont know much about that one.
So Far on my 2001 one I fixed the passanger side window by knocking on the motor it works fine now. I replaced the blend door motor for the Heat/AC works great now. had the passager side back window fixed but not working now.Need to fix now the front door locks both side and rear AC controls. It works good in the back but need to get the controls to work. well hope this helps.... Gary..
