everybody always compares older LESS costing cars to NEWER MORE COSTING cars.:banghead: No offense but that the argument I hate the most.
Sure I car go buy some 85(example) car for $2000 and with the work done above have a bad ass car. OR I could also buy a newer (not a new car) car for about 20,000 (example) and spend the money you stated above and have a bad ass car too. That goes for any make or model. Import or domestic.
I just say for the older cars to make sure you have a strong frame and body that is rust free or else that torque will have you kicking yourself

na screw the twisties as every vid has been a straight line. Good win to the v8... though it took how many till they had to call some guy with a traillered BUILT chevy that you really cant drive anywhere?
Seriously though I consider that some serious respect when this guy has raced a multitude of heavy modified v8's that the only car to beat the evo.. which races WORST at a roll..... is some old school NICE built v8 WITH N2O.
Did you notice the slicks on the Camaro? I think it would have done just fine from a stop. If I was the Evo guy I wouldnt really want to race from a stop because with 600 WHEEL-HP you'll probably snap a drive shaft.

I agree. AWD is still an advantage in a straight line but not as much so when the other guy has big ass slicks on. Plus that is a big risk in a high HP evo, to be doing hard launches like that.

I dont see a problem with the "bickering", what would this forum be without it? A boring place that's what.
What's so great about a forum without discussion and debate and where everyone agrees with everything another member says?
I was more referring to the closeminded posts and ones with silly stero types.
debates are fun and you can learn alot i know i did when this place was more happening, would like to still do so.
That's what is a turn off for me :icon16:

[b]$12999.99 = Horsepower: 620 @ 5500 RPM Torque: 650 ft/lb @ 4500 RPM runs on 92 octane.
Since you want to be a smart ass :loser:
What engine do you THINK is in that Comaro? 13k for JUST THE MOTORS...THen you have 3-4K into a tranny, another few thousand for the rear end a pretty penny for the drive shaft, then you have to do some chassis stiffening....so no, 15K is not realistic for what went into that comaro. on top of the fact thoes crates are cookie cutters ment to have perofmrance all around, a "drop and go" type thing. I have no idea what was done to thoes cars but i would assume if you are going to have drag specific car that is nitros specified you would build it around the 300 shot of nitros...not get a cookie cutter crate engine and throw 300 more HP at it :sly: . and that 620 is BHP...not WHP...factoring friction losses that cant be say 20% with an automatic tranny, that is slightly less than 500 WHP. I can guarontee you it was pushing far more than that to get that hunk of steel moving like that compared to that 600whp evo...even with a 300 shot, which i am doubting he is running 600BHP with out the spray. a powerful motor none the less, but not 630HP...
and BTW for 13k it isnt hard to get a light 4cyl to have a similar power to weight ratio...your own car being an example...i doubt youve spent near 13k, and though you may have less than 300HP your car weights nothing compared to a 3400lb comaro...with 13k it would be easy to get a 2000lb car to have the power to weight ratio of a 3400lb car with 620BHP...
but taking your stock D16 in a FWD honda and putting a $4k eldebrock turbo kit on it isnt the way...

I used those motors as examples...
And, with that GM Crate motor you can put nitrous ontop of that. It's fully forged, just have to make sure you buy all the goodies to keep any nitrous fed motor safe.
But, you can build what he had for far less. It's not hard, it's all in the knowledge of the parts and who you know to get the hookups. Machining isn't that expensive.
Fact is, you can build a car like the one in the video for roughly $15,000. The video doesn't show much, so we can't see how the condition of the car is.. but it can be done.
And yes, you can build up a little import car to do the same job. Much like my Z... I've got maybe $10,000 including the price of the car and all my goodies and it goes like stink... well low 13s. But with just upgraded turbo and injectors, and a fuel map... I could cut off a full second off the time...... If I had the traction. :D

^----- above post... why were not posting about how to make a fast car cheap... there is a thread at the top of the forum for that.
RedNeck383 I included in the extras part the price of everything else that would drive up the cost of the evo. I know the parts and prices. If you would like to research it go right ahead and when you come back with a higher figure than mine that is realistical ill stfu. Till then dont recomment on prices.

and that is the new ones, the old late 80's civic hatch's weight like 1900lbs fuled. CRX's are even lighter...we had a frivends 89' CRX triped down to nothing but 2 racing seats and the controlls needed for driving with a fiberglass hood and it weighted 1650lbs fuled...well 1800 with me in it. physical says im 140lbs. it was a quick little beast with a B18swap...wasnt pushing but maybe 170hp but 170hp with a 1650lbs car and a 150lb guy and a 230lb guy...for a total of 2030lbs....it was very quick....with medriving at the track i pulled a 14.1@97mph and my friend (who weighs almost 100lbs more than me) pulled a 14 flat at 101mph with wheel slippage. so with no wheel slippage and me bening a slightly better driver it is a 13sec car...

There's a thread at the top of this forum for building cheap cars? Really? I'm the moderator here and I don't know what you're talking about?
Maybe you have special VBulletin powers and see it...?
I'm not sure what you're getting at?
EVO's and STi's are nice cars, but you're paying too much for something that'll blow up it's clutch and fry it's tranny in 10-15 hard launches. Neat.
The Beauty of All-Wheel Drive... is the repair costs. Super!

Speaking of which, off topic but...
I was driving my moms truck around last night trying to get my mind off of exams and i decided to stop and do a few donuts and burn outs...she has too muhc tread on her tires...so after a few burn outs and 1 donut where i sterted with the tires in the grass off of the road to get them spinning i wanted to jsut swing the rear around...so i launch hard and i have them squealing for a full U-turn and it finally swings out, then i turn back to the right for a sterring correction (to go striaght, trying to catch a train, the road runs parallel with the train, something fun i like to do is see how fast they are going) and when i hit 2nd i let off the clutch and it jsut cut off...im like "flippin great" so i start her back up and she runs smooth, im happy, so i take off normal and for a turn i downshift from 3rd to 2nd and coast around the corner, i notice masive bad sounds, sounds like valve chatter to me, but after som playing around it is onl ins 2nd gear...and only when coasting...could it be the syncro or something? it still shifts smoothly like nothing happens, just chatters when coasting in 2nd...
i know its off topic, just thought id share.

so first you dont completly read rednecks posts fully, then quote them....and say what he just said but making an ass out of yourself
*tranny for 3-4K* when he said about 400 onto the cost, and you can get a TH400 for cheep!
and then this? WTF?
You argue with redneck...he knows much of chevys! He has searched far and wide and seen how cheep he could do it. He just never went through with it and did the Z instead.
serously, you keep arguing like you know, but make even more of an ass out of youself. Yes, it wont handle as well, but you know its hard to handle 600awhp around twisies too, with lag and such. If you know what your doing its easy. But the Camaro can do well too, with suspension mods.
Dont hate foo!

there ya go. open discusion thread on what car to buy which can be built on to discuss 'go fast for less' unless you would like to open a whole new thread which will have 20 pages in 1 day.

The Beauty of All-Wheel Drive... is the repair costs. Super!
I have launched my car significantly over that amount and have had no drive train issues yet. The first thing to go will be the clutch which I will happily replace with a ACT 2600. I have no 'repair costs' with my awd drive car... so I dont know wtf your talking about.
And yes the Evo and Sti are nice cars.... show me a better car for the same price new in all performance categories.. or for your straight liners.. in the 1/4. You cant. Ill repeat. YOU CANT. The closest thing is a 05 Mustang GT and it still aint all that great for its current inflated price. Every car comparison that has compared the EVO against ANY OTHER NEW CAR has shown it to be equal or better for the money. The next step up is a 05 vette which blue books for what 45k and does the 1/4 in 12.6 secs. All around performance the evo wins. Affordability the evo wins. Fitting 3+ pps in my car easy with good leg room... evo wins. Yes I am biased for my car but I also do my homework. This thread was started cause some nice built chevy beat a nicely built evo. Good job for the chevy. Buy if you take a step back you have to appreciate the whole situation. Great v8 wow! ya you can do alot with those... but man that evo beat the PISS out of how many v8's? all of which have spent nice money on their car after the purchase price....
Till ford makes a new cobra that will hopefully be below 36k or GM makes another afforable street car in the new car field evo's and sti's take the cake.
Old car field that you can build up... well since you are a moderator go ahead and start a thread and we will all discuss in technical detail how to go faster for less.

Well I would have to say thats about the most biased opinion ever. The evo is a great car, but its not perfect. Over all speed, comparitively, after the launch its got nothing. That vette would loose off the line but would catch and pass an evo. Also, sure if you blow your clutch just replace it with a ACT 2600 problem solved right? WRONG, that clutch is acting like a fuse. If you blow a 10amp fuse and replace it with a 20 so it dosn't fry, what do you think is going to happen? Well the same things going to happen to something in your drivetrain. The fact is that all that power is going somewhere. On a non AWD car the power is transferred to wheelspin, which sucks for launching but helps your driveline in the end. If your wheels don't spin I can tell you that something inside your car is taking the force of your launch. And who cares about how many people can fit into a sports car? Nobody brags about the towing capacity of a 05 Mustang.

there ya go. open discusion thread on what car to buy which can be built on to discuss 'go fast for less' unless you would like to open a whole new thread which will have 20 pages in 1 day.
That thread is about what car to buy with X amount of money. I guess in a way it's how to build up a car for cheap. I'll give you that.
And about the drivetrain issues. A member of AF, 2000LS1Z28 had a nice EVO VIII for I'd say almost a year. Maybe longer... he did some pretty nice mods. ECU, Clutch, Exhaust and I think an intake of some sort. Anywho, my point being he sold the car cause it kept having tranny problems. And WRX's have seem to have tranny problems too.
I'm no expert on the cars, I'll admit to that. Plus there's that whole warranty issue with EVO's... I've heard bad things about them being turned down for minor warranty work cause Mistubushi blackbooks anybody who takes their car to the track, or autoX.

Fryman...I think you've got a slighty askewed view on gen1 chevy parts dude. This is what I have for my car so far...
-The vehicle is a numbers matching 1971 SS Camaro. I bought it with a Rayjay turbo charger installed on the origional 350, in working condition for $6,000. I could have bought a much cheaper car by getting a 1971 RS, but the SS is much nicer overall.
-Brand new 460 hp rollor 350 4 bolt main completely balanced - $3,500
-Aluminium drive shaft - $500 <-not needed but cool to have
-built ford 9 inch rearend - $550
-rebuilt turbo 400 tranny with stage 3 shift kit - $450
-subframe connectors - $110
-custom annular blow through carb - $900
- Aquamist stage 2 - $650
-Rayjay Turbo - came free with the car (or the car came free with the turbo, whichever you prefer ;))
And I've got another $3,500-$4,500 to spend to get the rest of the goodies for the suspenstion and motor.
Now all this isn't including the price that it's costing to completely restore the car, but the '67 camaro in question is not restored, it's just fast, plain and simple. So this is a list of the cost of my go fast goodies and supporting mods to get my car into the 750-800hp(estimated crank hp @ 18 lbs boost)range.
And this price would obviously be greatly reduced if i wasn't going the extreme turbo route and building the car to handle, and just built an N2O ready motor and a strait line car. So you can see the parts to do these kinds of things are fairly cheap on older cars.
This is not a flame post to anyone, including fryman...it's more of an enlightenment.
And I never dissed the Evo or any other imports for that matter, so don't haul off and start saying I'm trying to start a domestic vs. import war. I think at least 3 of you have said that already, and it's getting old fast.

I love my civic, but hearing how much and for the price can be made out of domestics...~::As I turn to glance at my brand new E4 ratting badge and the pay that comes with it::~ I think I might find a little project...though, im not looking for 600 whp, but maybe at least 300?

Well I would have to say thats about the most biased opinion ever. The evo is a great car, but its not perfect. Over all speed, comparitively, after the launch its got nothing. That vette would loose off the line but would catch and pass an evo.
Not a evo but same engine/drivetrain almost..........

Hey all I am saying is that an 05 stock evo is good for mid to low 13s due to its all wheel launch, and an 05 vette is good for mid 12s and thats after loosing off the line.

wow... they decided to race once, the camaro won. end of story.
if they raced again(or twice, after the camaros out of laughing gas), im sure the evo would win.
point being, you guys are making excuses for cars that arent even yours. thats about as stupid as if you lost a street race and said "i would have won if i had a turbo as well."

wow this thread sure got shot down to hell fast. anyways, sure the evo loses in topend, but thats the weird thing about this particular evo. it only makes 601whp @30psi so at 33psi, its walking 660+whp cobras. hmmmmmmm like i said, that evo must have something else done to it that hes not telling us. also for an evo to put down 600whp, it has to make probrably around 750 crank hp, while the RWD's only need 720 hp to have the same 600whp. so that evo is definitly making more crank hp to have that amount put down to the ground. but still a 600whp car should not walk a 660+whp car.

Yeah, I just want to add that small block chevy's are REALLY cheap to build compared to anything else! I mean RedNeck posted up a BBC, and those things are expensive to build. They do make TONS of power, but they will set ya back alot to make that power. I mean you take $13k and throw that into a small block and it'd run circles around that 572 (of coures that 572 is not even close to its potential).
$5,000 will get ya 500 hp or more in a small block, and thats including labor. I mean just go to a junk yard and hunt ya a 400 block (get them for really cheap usually), take it to a machine shop, get it cleaned up, buy the internals (best of the best will cost ya atlesat $1500, but again, that's best of the best), then order a set of heads from Jegs (their in-house SBC heads that are pretty nice are like $1500 or so-so are AFR and Dart though), a Victor Jr (or somethign close) intake (maybe $400), rockers and lifters ($600 or so), and 750 or up cfm carb ($550-$650) and you got it.
I mean that's essentially what I have right now and I've got a 1.46 60' in a 2700 lbs car without me in it that woudl run 6.60s-6.70s in the 1/8th at over 100 mph. Now it is a purpose built drag car (4-link, coil over shocks, tube frame, etc. etc. etc.) but 2700 lbs is 2700 lbs and a roughly $5000 engine (no power adders BTW) makes it run around 85 mph in only 330 ft.
