My air bag light comes on intermittantly. tried disconnecting and reconnecting yellow connector under seat, no change. no codes stored in scanner. if i bang on steering wheel at bottom of air bag, light usually goes out and stays out for several starts, then comes back on. Could this be the clock spring??

There is a recall on the air bag system i would see if that may be it....

I have the same problem in my imp... Find the yellow wire under the dirver seat and move it around... that should turn the light off. It is one of those painful GM problems... I have found many post like this on the web

yes.. i have had the same problem with my 2000... under the drivers side seat there is a yellow wire harness. That is the cause of the problem.. What I did is rig it up so that it does not move. I personally just used cable ties which so far has worked for about 6 months of not seeing the light come on

i just ran into the airbag light issue myself, and after i get offline im going to check for the yellow wire harness under my seat and see if that doesnt do anything, i did check before when i first saw that solution but now that its made a little more clear, im going to try again....cause i read other sites and people said they got charged crazy to get it fixed and then someone else told me that i can reset it if i take the positive charge off of my battery.....HELP!!!

i just simply "tied it down" so that it does not move. You of course have to check and make sure it's not in a position where the light comes on first before you do that... but so far so good.. like I said it's been 6 months so far.. hope I didn't just jinx myself now.. :)

You are brave if you are unplugging the yellow wire and plugging it back in. I once worked at a GM dealer and have heard many talk about how sensitive the system is and by disconnecting the wires like that can and has been known to be triggered. I've had the same issue on my '01 and took it to the dealer. They changed out the airbag in the steering wheel. The problem went away.

there's no need to unplug the actual wiring. The problem lies in the actual connector. If it is allowed to "bounce around" while driving then it seems to trigger some sort of short. That's why I just tied it down so there's is no more bounce in the harness, thus I'm thinking the reason why my airbag light has yet to come back on. (yet, but being optimistic)

Are you guys talking about the yellow wire that runs into a blue connector type thing. On my car..it's already anchored down....it has a metal bracket holding it to the floor....or am i looking at the wrong one, it's got a picture of an airbag on it...

I hate to agree but I have had the same problem with my 2000 LS, fijitiing with the wires under the seat fixes it everytime. I would much rather do that than pay 75.00 hr to diagnose and replaces some other part.

Just want to say thank you to all of you who do post things on here. I was having the same problem with my 2000 LS. Took a good look under the driver side seat and just tried to straighten out the wiring mess that is under there and my air bag light went out. Still does the diagnostic check when the car is started like it is supposed to, just goes out now instead of staying on. In all honesty as someone else had posted it may be one of those painful GM things that happen, but with eachother's help a lot of these little annoyances can be fixed without a trip to the dealership or any mechanic, and that means saving $$$. Thanks again and keep the posts coming!
