I decided to get going on my Supra project.
Here's where I'm at so far. Starting with a Tamiya Supra kit
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y227/Blueboost/Picture003.jpg
I really am looking forward to building the engine that comes in the base Supra kit, but the stock body isn't going to make me happy in the long run. I wanted something more stylish, without being too F&F. My SARD Supra's clearcoat had yellowed pretty badly, so I decided to cut the bumper off for my project, and I'm thinking the wing would be good as well.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y227/Blueboost/Picture002.jpg
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y227/Blueboost/Picture004.jpg
I'm heavily considering a SAS supra hood, because I think the TRD hood would look really good for what I have in mind. I'll update more as I progress.

After test fitting the SARD bumper, I noticed my first real hurdle. The SARD bumper isn't long enough on the sides, and will require some customization.

As much as I love the 3000GT, I want this to be different from it. I've been considering what I'm going to do next, while I assemble the small parts. :dunno:

Even though I wasn't expecting to have to do much fabrication for this different bumper, I really don't mind it and have enjoyed the build so far. Meanwhile, I've also shot a lot of other parts with paint and the under-carriage is starting to come together. I'll post more pics soon. Company arrived from out of town so that may slow my somewhat steady progress. :sly:
My next step on the bumper was to apply putty and roughly shape the plastic card to the wheel wells and fenders. After this is ready, I can begin sanding the bumper down to a more final shape-

I snuck in some modelling time today when no one was looking  and was able to get the bumper into its final stages. Heres two pics after sanding and priming. Will probably need a bit more sanding and another coat of primer before its completely ready.

Things are crazy all the time, but I made time to work on my Supra today. I've completed the rolling chassis, and began the engine. I have a single turbo setup in mind so I fabricated a custom manifold. What a pain it was fitting all six tubes in that little space. Anyhow, take a look-

this whole turbo and manifold is still in mock up, but I think it looks damn good already. Now that I have the main basic forms of what I'm looking for, the next step will be to go over everything and try to smooth out the details. The hood fits fine BTW :biggrin2:

Thanks for the kind words Ryan. For the manifold, I used styrene tubing, the same size used to convert female rims to male. And I used a candle to heat the tube for some bends, and just bent them by hand for other bends. No aluminum or sodder was used
http://www.hobbylinc.com/gr/pls/pls90603.jpg
as far as plumbing the rest of the induction path, I was thinking about trying to keep the engine removable for display, although I don't know if thats going to be possible and still have the level of detail I want.
The red line shows the rest of the induction path I intend to fabricate-

No problem, how else do you learn. :D
The downpipe is the pipe the -exhaust- gas exiting the turbo go's through. The downpipe essentially turns into the exhaust. it connects to the exhaust side of the turbo, the exhaust gas then travels down the downpipe, through a midpipe or test pipe (both are the same thing, a long pipe running under your car, back to the exhaust), to the exhaust. You will hear about people running "open down pipe" which means they have nothing connected to the downpipe.

Ok so let me see if i have this right, and if i'm wrong please correct me. The exhaust manifold conects to the turbo, then off of the exhaust side of the turbo is ur down pipe wich turns into ur exhaust, rather than the exhaust connecting to the bottom of the headers??????? and thanks for all the help blueboost i really do appreciate it.................*Ryan*

Ryan-
That is correct. The exhaust doesn't connect to the bottom of the header on a turbocharged application. That exhaust gas needs to go through the turbo in order for the turbo to work. These two diagrams are the best Ive ever seen. This should help you make even more sense of it all.

While I was waiting on some paint and putty to dry on the engine, I finished attaching the TRD bumper and making sure everything was going to line up (hood, headlights, wheelfenders, etc..). She's now ready for a shot of primer to see any leftover inconsistancies and blemishes that need another going over.

How about an update?
Finally shot the body with couple light coats of primer to see where I stand. She looks good, maybe another once over on the wheel wells. All the mold lines have been sanded etc. so don't be surprised to see some final painting in a few days. :icon16:
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y227/Blueboost/DSCF0191.jpg
Interior has my traditional black underscore, which I will detail up. I am still deciding whether or not I want to cage it. I don't want to bite off too much on this model and scare myself into another year long slump.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y227/Blueboost/DSCF0194.jpg
The intake manifold that comes with the kit is hollowed out on one side. Shame on Tamiya as this will be obvious to anyone that looks. So I slapped some putty on that bad boy.

-Small update on engine progress-
Fabbed up the downpipe and Wastegate. Downpipe made from styrene tube. The wastegate.. bent styrene tube coming from the manifold, the black and red part is a piece of a spring and shock from a revell integra, the end of the wastegate is a piece (electric motor assembly?) from the SARD supra which I sanded down. Wanted to show you before I painted it.
The whole engine assembly will get a final once over with paint once im done fabbing everything.
