98 windstar with 3.8l when coming to a stop I notice that the rpms drop rather low then return to normal. Some times she will stall out and I can start it right up. Any ideas on where to start looking?
My mechanic tells me its common and there is a kit u can install to prevent this . Does this sound real ?

One common cause of this problem is the Idle Air Control (IAC). This controls the idle speed (via control from the PCM) when your foot is not on the accelerator.
The IAC is on top of the upper intake manifold, right next to the throttle body. 2 bolts and an electrical connector. You might try removing it....and spraying some SeaFoam into it....as it sounds like it is working....but sticking. It is easy to replace also....if the cleaning/lubrication does not work.

If it happens when its warm, I would try replacing the "O" rings under the plastic intake.Over time they tend to suck up some oil and cause a slight vacuum leak.

Just wondering..............wouldn't a slight intake leak cause a code and CEL?

You might try stopping using only the hand brake. If the stalling problem doesn't occur, you may have an issue with the foot brake vacuum booster.
