Ok i have recently done the ZC Sohc Vtec swap in my HF, and i am using my HF tranny and my damn Spedo cable will not stay in for shit. I have tried everything i can think of to get this thing to stay in but still no luck. Is there some kinda crazy secret to this that i just havn't figured out yet or could something be wrong w/ my spedo cable. Just to see, does anyone have a pic of the tranny end of a spedo cable so i can compare to see if something is missing off mine. And yes i have the little clip thing that is supposed to hold it in on and it seem to grab but is there something else that is supposed to hold the cable in, cause on my tranny there is this little plate thing bolted onto the tranny on a ledge right below the spedo cable so i was also thinking there might be some kinda hold down that i have lost or something. I really don't need the cable that bad cause i know how fast i am going by watching RPMs but it's still anoying cause my odometer dosn't work but on the bright side i am not running up any more miles on the car as long as the cable isn't in but i still would like it to work all the time. Thanks for the help. Scott

that little metal plate is suppose to hold it in place. are you pushing in enough cause theres alittle groove on the vss that the plate fits into. is the plate sitting in that groove ?

No, the plate is on a ledge below where the spedo cable goes in, i was thinking maybe there is some kinda bracket or something that goes from that ledge to the spedo cable to keep it from moving up and out. You wouldn't have any pics of what your talking about though cause i could be looking at this all wrong

ok looking at the hole where the vss goes into, next to that there should be a threaded hole for a bolt. on the vss itself there should be alittle slit on it. there is a small metal plate the fit into the slit and then gets bolted to the tranny. that is suppose to keep it in. ill go look for a pic

My plate is dosnt reach the spedo cable but it looks like it could possibly hold something down tight that does but i am going to get out in the shop tomorrow and fool with it a little more, it's getting time to do a good over looking since i did the last one after the swap. But if you can find a pic that would be great cause inthe diagram above my little plate that bolts down dosnt look anything like that one. My plate is maybe a hundred thousand's thick if you measured it with some calipers, and there isn't a slot on the tranny where it lines up. I looked thru my pics but couldn't find a good one of the spedo cable hole. I'll try and draw a pic or something and maybe that'll help.

my friend had to fabricate a bracket out of sheet metal to hold his in place...dunno why it wouldn't screw into place with the oem bracket :dunno: but there were a lot of things we didn't understand about that car

What's all this talk about "VSS"? He has a speedo cable. On 88-91 CRX and Civics the VSS is part of the gauge cluster. The only thing that holds the speedo cable into the transmission is the little clip. Sometimes the clip gets bent too far open upon removal of the speedo cable. Bend it a little more closed before replacing it so that it will actually sit in the groove on the end of the speedo cable.
First, install the speedo cable...make sure it is aligned and goes all the way in. Once it is fully seated in the transmission, slip the clip on the speedo holder so that is sits in the slit on the side. Voila...speedo cable won't go anywhere.

I don't know what the issue is then. I know that with mine fully seated and with the clip installed I wouldn't be able to yank it out with all of my arm strength. Are you sure it's going in all the way? The end of the speedo cable has to line up just perfectly to go in all the way. Last time it took me over 10 mins of screwing around with it just to get it to go in properly.
