hey, well i have a 1991 CRX, and ppl keep telling me about a jspec 1.5vtec motor, and how i should put one in my car, i was wondering if anybody could tell me the engine code for it? and the hp and torque rating for it plzzzzzzzzz!!!!!

D15b. It's got 130hp, not sure about torque.

JDM D15B VTEC, Im actually preparing mine to swap it in my CRX... Its got 130HP and 106 fl lbs of torque... Should be a pretty quick setup in a CRX...

U never heard of j-spec? :sly:
If its made to Japanese specs, its called j-spec as well as JDM...

i did the swap in my CRX and i am more than happy with the difference, but i did go from a hf motor to this one so i pretty much doubled my previous Hp. And the engine code on my motor on the block was "ZC" and that's all it said but if you buy the motor from a business that sells them then ask for the d15 vtec, Don't get the D16 vtec if you can help it cause it'll have alot more miles on it since it is a motor that was put out in the US, so it'll have much higher miles more than likely.

...And the engine code on my motor on the block was "ZC" Then you've got a ZC engine, not a D15b vtec. The D15b vtec's were made from '92 on.

Your engine is a ZC then, if it looks just like the D15B VTEC, then its the SOHC VTEC version of the ZC (yes they exist)... Same as the D15B, except its 1.6 liters, instead of 1.5 liters... Same agressive cam... And same block as the US D16Z6...

What is the HP rating on that motor anyone know? The "ZC " is what i am refering to. Cause, well, i put intake header and full exaust on it and it runs pretty quick. One of these days i am going to try and get a 0-60 time and a quarter mile time when ever i can get the means to do so, but it's pretty quick, I am hanging w/ the 2002 RSX, not the type s though, but i am right on the door up to about 90 mph then i throw it into third and pulled up to his bumper and we let off at about 115mph cause we ran up on some traffic. But even running the HF tranny, i think may be an advantage cause you can seriously wind out the motor w/ those long gears, once vtec kicks in the rpms climb very quick from i think its about 4400 rpm up to about 6700 rpm. I took it to 7000rpm a couple of times in second and i am runnin about 95 mph, so i give the hf tranny a thumbs up cause i can even grab second which has been unheard of with anything Hf. But all in all the swap is a fairly easy one w/ a good gain in performance. So go for it, it's fun!!!

90mph in second?... that just sounds :screwy:
I'd really like to see what a race would be like against a set up like that where you're waiting to shift forever and bouncing off the speed limiter in 3rd or 4th gear on hf axles... and I'm in 5th over 5000rpms over 100mph pulling like a mofo...

The HP of the SOHC ZC VTEC is probably around 130 like the D15B VTEC, but its probably got more torque (since its displacement is .1 more), but it wont be much, Id say maybe 111 ft lbs, compared to the 106 in the D15B... But hey, every little bit counts, specially when it comes to Hondas that have little torque to begin with...
Heres a bit more info on it:
http://asia.vtec.net/topics/zc.html
Has some of the specs specs on it, and even the original car it came from!
Note that 130 PS is a little bit less than 130 HP, I cant rem off hand the exact conversion, but its a tad less, I think the D15B is also 130 PS, but ppl just round it up, and its actually like 125-128 HP...

I can go about 72 in second gear, at about 8500 RPM.

you can go 100mph in 2nd if u wanted...but i see no point besides to mess up ur tranny...no real benefit seeing that you're alreay out of your powerband

Heres a good question about powerbands.. if you had other mods done to your car.. such as aftermarket intake manifold and throttle body, port polished head with cams and all the works.. including but not limited to a turbo... wouldn't your powerband be different than a stock motor? So.. maybe 72 mph.. or even a hundred could possibly still be in your powerband??

Naw that's actually very possible. I've got a CX and I can get to at least 70mph in 2nd gear. And let me tell you, it's saved my ass a few times when I shift into 2nd instead of 4th (only did that twice and it was on the same day). But I'm just guessing that the HF tranny is geared roughly the same as the CX.

anything is possibly with mods...but i doubt Scott82 has all that done to his car...which is the car i was refering to...

my friends cx could get up to 70 in 2nd...but being able to go into second gear and being out of your power pand in 2nd gear are 2 different things

I agree... I don't see the point. If you have the mods, you'll be redlining your ass off no matter what tranny you have. I know for a fact that if I go to second at 70mph with my Si I'll be slamming the redline... having lightweight pulleys, flywheel, cam, i/h/e gets you up in your power band very fast.

I agree with BLU CIVIC, It is useless to redline in every gear.. or even one gear, just because you can. If your engine is set up to rev higher with the proper mods and you will benefit from it, then by all means rev it up! but bouncing off the rev limiter and trying to go the fastest in each gear may not be very benificial on a modor with only i/h/e

well my friend who was in 2nd doing 70 wasn't bouncing off redline...don't know what his rpm was...but he was going slower than would he would have been if he had shifted into 3rd
don't know what it is about people redline racing...that's why when you see people racing on the street the other car going all the way to redline falls back futhuer than the guy that stays in his powerband and shifts while still in it...
some guy did a calculation on what rpm to shift into to maximize speed and to always stay in ur powerband

I will get a pic of it sometime when i can get a passanger in there during the day. In second gear i am turining almost 7000 rpm at 92 or so mph. The rated redline on the motor i have is 7200 rpm and i have never taken over 7000 rpm just a few times just so i caould actually see what it could do after the swap. The gears in the HF tranny are extra-extra long. 3rd gear at about 6500 rpm i am running at 120mph and thats as fast as i have taken it. It takes a little bit longer to wind out third gear that it does first and second but my spedo only reads 120 mph so i just let off since i couldn't exactly tell how fast i was going and plus i figured i was going fast enough. But i do have to say, the hf tranny isn't a bad tranny, it's just the fact that previously it had only what, 64hp thrying to turn the tranny and now i have almost double the HP with quite a bit more torque so it definatly winds up quick in firtst and second, third is a fun gear to pass in on the interstate cause it had a good amout of pull w/out really reving the engine far into vtec so i am really likeing the HF tranny cause i drove to louisville last week and really babied the throttle and kept it in fifth on the interstate running about 85 the hole way turning 2500rpm, and i got 45 miles to the gallon. I made it 320 miles and still had a quarter tank left or so left. It was like 7.2 gal of gas when i filled it up at 320 miles. So i for one have to praise a part of of a HF car whitch you don't hear very often but i actually like the tranny cause i can go plenty fast and still get great gas milage, especially since gas is like $2.20 cects a gallon right now.
