Ok I'll try this on ya. My girlfriends daughter has a Saturn. She did'nt put oil in it. She drove it. When it started to slow with the oil light on, getting hotter by the second, when she pushed the gas and it did'nt go ,she pushed harder. Then the car made the sqealing pig noise and I had it towed home. Won't turn over (really). Probable spun crank bearing I'll assume. Its a 1.9 litre, the body and interior is clean with new tires (what a shame). Now what I need to know what year engines can I swap into this car since saturn has kept most of everything they make the same .I would like to put a much newer year engine in if I could. Since the price of gas aint going down anytime soon I want to keep this car as my "money saver". Any answers or any type of help will be greatly appreciated. Don't know if its a SL/SL2/ its not an SC (I think). A rebuilt/remanufactured engine will run me about 2K and I'm on a budget . Thanks in advance---Chris

the easiest swap would be a 92. for a 91 engine you may need to play around with the motor mounts. in 1993 saturn changed a few things, the biggie is the toner ring on the crankshaft for the CPS. if you swap in anything other then a 91 or 92 engine you will need to change the PCM and wiring harness. if you have a SOHC engine, any year 91-02 will physicly fit. for a DOHC, i know 91-early 99 will fit, i have heard conficting storys about late 99-02 engines clearing the firewall.
