programming remote for 97 montero sr

i bought a remote off e-bay with programming instructions for a 97 sr the instructions refer to a programming buttom to the left of the steering wheel in a recessed ring under the dash board can anyone help me find this buttom or is there a different way to program the remote thanks gordon
