My wifes 99 SL1, which we bought new has been sounding like a bucket of bolts this past couple of years. She was getting thumping and banging noises from under the front of the car and was scared to drive it so I checked out the front end. Everything seemed tight and the car drove straight and true and I had my head paining from trying to figure out what was causing all the noise. So I did what any frustrated husband would do, I bought a case of my favorite beer and went into meditation mode. After an hour so of pulling on every conceivable part under the car my hand slipped and struck the plastic inner fender shroud which seemed very loose. I then begin to check all the tupperware under the car and noticed all the little plastic clips holding it all to the frame were either missing or falling off. I then went into my garage and grabbed a handfull of self tapping screws and washers and begin to secure the plastic back to the metal underbody. After I finished I aske my wife to take the care for a spin. Man what a difference. Not a rattle in it. I was suprised that loose plastic would make the kind of "clunking" noises I was hearing. Anyway avice to other owners, if you are getting this kinda noises from the front of your SL1, have a look at this.

never once heard of such a problem from any saturn. throughtout thousands of saturn owners your the first ive ever heard who had such a problem. maybe someone had worked on it once before and didnt install them correctly or put the wrong size in and they fell out and it just now starting doing that.
oh and too, every single car on the road has plastic rivets in them. saturns actually dont have a bunch of them, just normal for automakers. ive worked on cars with so many it would make your head spin.

yes every car does i am not aware of a car that rattled so much. do alittle performance work on that 1.9L then tell me everybody builds them the same. you dont need bass to hear the front dash in an earthquake or the back deck. except 100 percent correct some shop didnt put them all back in or put them in after they destoyed the rivit pulling them out. my bad a 69 camaro can shake and rattle.
