my friend is being ripped off!!!
he (my friend) wanted the turbo that was listed in the classifieds. deposit was sent. sometime between 1/20-1/23 a money order was sent for the rest.
2/27 i let doug know it FINALLY ARRIVED & the turbo didn't line up and the exhaust mani was warped. i get this reply:
Hey Lady just wanted to see if he got the kit on and running. I figured out why the turbo didn't line up with the mani. They used a regular DSM T28 flange for the mani and it was a regular T28 turbo. Why they did this since it came from the same place I don't know.
Anyways...Just keep me updated I am interested to see how well it "runs".
Thanks, Doug
on 4/21 i sent this message (which confirmation says was read the same day)
apparently the turbo manifold is warped. the flange where the turbo would mount was serverly heated and has made it unusable. dan would kindly like a refund for the manifold it's self, and is more than willing to ship it back to you.
i sorry for the late reply, my life is just plain busy at the moment.

no reply. on 2/26 i send this reply:
a reply would be nice considering you read my last pm on 4-21-05. please don't leave me hanging....
here is where it startes to go down hill, his reply:
Hey sorry read it on my way out and forgot about it. The is brand new never used (Never even bolted up). I don't see how it could be warped unless he torqued it down to tight and warped it.
What part of the manifold is he actually saying is warped? Tell him sorry, but I am not working, full time student, and have no money flow. I really don't have the funds to give him the money for the manifold & don't see me being at fault because it was in perfect new condition when shipped.
my reply:
he brought it by for us to look yesterday. unfortunatly i didn't have my digi cam on me.
it is still never installed. it will be impossible to install. where it bolts up to the head it is bowed a good 1/4", it won't seat flat. you can see how bowed/warped it is visually with your eyes.
that is unexceptable. what you are basically saying is he paid you, now your stuff is running, too bad for him. that is wrong. he had been saving towards turbo for over 9 months, money doesn't grow on trees for him either. now he just spent the money he saved on a useless part.
as i stated before, he will gladly send the exhaust mani back for a refund on it. you sent him a 100% unusable part, which is not what he paid for. you can easily visually see it's warped...if you didn't notice then it is completely your fault for not noticing in the first place and then trying to sell it.
amy
his reply:
Well in that case I will give him $25 back. He paid $900 for turbo kit that I had over $1500 invested, so he got his money worth. That part was new. I have looked it over many times and there was no bow. That is something he would have noticed right out of the box. Sorry, but I am not at fault here.
my reply:
if they are worth $25 then tell me where...i'll buy 10 of them.
a) you did not spend no $1500. you are trying to claim the highest MSRP, which both you and i know you did not pay
b) if you spent $1500 then you would have reciepts and you did not spent $25. and if you have reciepts then you should easily be able to return this exhaust mani which has never been used
you are 100% at fault. this is the last time i will attempt to make things right before i post this up for the forum pubilically to decide on your poor character.
there are no exhaust mani's out there for under $250, let alone $200....i was being more than reasonable asking for only $150 with the old mani sent back.
i was trying to help 2 4th genners out but you have made me very sorry. it wasn't shipped within a reasonable time. i contact you and you conviently "forget" to reply to my pm as you reply up and down the forum for 5 days. now you make an insulting $25 offer :thumbsdow
his final reply:
I bought the manifold and turbo off honda-tech from a "company" about a year ago. I was buying the T28 turbo from them so they cut me a deal on the manifold. I paid $100 for the manifold.
As far as reciepts, no you don't usually get reciepts off e-bay or individuals. I have pieced the kit together over the past 2 years so all my "reciepts" from paypal and what not have gotten deleted. Yes I did spend $1500 on that turbo kit.
Turbo- $450 off h-t
Mani- $100 (normally $200) off h-t
Deltagate wastegate- $190 off ebay
BOV- $160 off ebay
Intercooler- $360 (is a Tyrus intercooler when he first started making them and they were expensive) off ebay
450 cc injectors- bought from a friend for $120
Extra wastegate springs- $30 off ebay
SS down pipe- $80 off H-T
Downpipe flange- $25 off ebay
That is over $1500 right there. Like I said I think he has damaged the manifold and doesn't want to admit it.
a) product was new
b) I inspected and had friends look at it many times and it was not bowed
c) It was almost 4 months ago! He would have noticed this by now.
d) I'll give him the same return notice a store would. 30 days

he sent us a turbo that will not mount to the flange on the mani due to the wrong turbo plate AND the exhaust mani can't be bolted to the head because it's warped....it looks like a damned skii slope....you can see it plain as day with the naked eye. it is more than fair to ask for $150 refund for the exhange of the warped exhaust mani

Im not going to take sides on this because its none of my business.
But niether of you have proof either way. Niether of you can prove if it was messed up before, or after he sent it or anything like that.
But I hope you guys get it all figured out, I hate to see two regulars get into a fight :(
Good luck with everything.

I have yet to see proff of this damage. Also the shipping was a mishap on FedEx. That manifold was brand new. I inspected it right out of the box after I got it. When I was selling it plenty of my friends looked at it also because they were interested in it.
I like how you call me a scammer right off the bat when it seems to me your friend is the scammer. How should I know he didn't damage the manifold? You talk about 30 days..ok lets assume it took 30 days for it to get there (which it didn't). Thats still almost 3 months he has had it!
I bought my car 4 years ago, it just blew up. I want a refund because it was blown when I got it....yeah right. You are taking his side simply because he is your friend. I am not eating his mistake, sorry.

How do you wreck a manifold without using it?!
Thats what I would like to know. I have never even bolted the manifold up. I know for a fact it was undamaged when it was shipped. Like I said. I have still yet to see any proff.
Not to mention why would he want a refund on the manifold? Does he not know even if it was "damaged" he could have another plate welded on a lot cheaper than the cost of buying another manifold?

it was not fed ex's fault. you told me it was shipped. it never came, after i contact you i then get "oops, my friend forgot to send it." then we wait longer to now hear some stupid excuse about oil on the box so they wouldn't ship it and you had to repack it.
i would have asked for my money back since it took so long to ship and forget shipping it but i knew you had spent the money long before the turbo was sent
i like how doug isn't addressing the screwed up turbo flange....another way my friend is getting screwed.
whats the excuse for editing out the pics and description in the classifieds????
don't you worry i'm having him come over so i can take pics of this NEVER installed extremely warped mani.
i'll tell you how it gets warped never installed, SiZ....it's called it was sold to my friend warped.
you are a scammer neither turbo nor exhaust mani were as you described....which you quickly edited out of the thread after you had MONEY. you sit there and give me the poor me i'm a college kid but could care less somebody forked out money for crap parts...but what do you care, your car runs thanks to his $900

i clearly stated in my pm that if you paid so much and had a reciept you would have no problems returning it. then i got another excuse about no reciepts from buying on ebay, paypal, and h-t since you 'had been collecting parts for 2 years"...now suddenly there is a lifetime warrenty. :screwy: i'm sick of the excuses. i'm sick of you flipping the script. i like how you suddenly mention contacting that company AFTER I POST HERE

What problems did you address right off? NONE! You later on mentioned that the turbo didn't fit on the manifold. I told you that it was probably due to them using two different T28 flanges.
About me suddenly mentioning the life time warranty. I pulled up my paypal history and got the e-mail addy from the place I bought it from and e-mailed them. They have not replied which is why I did not mention this earlier.
You say the turbo is not as described? How was this described? "I quickly removed the pictures and description". No I didn't..it was a list of parts and link to pictures. Want the pictures here ya go champ...

Oh and about the description. Here is a copy.
I have pieced together a complete turbo kit minus IC piping. All parts are brand new and never been used on any car except the injectors! (only one injector is shown, but have all four) The kit consist of:
Garrett T28 turbo (paid $450)
27"x6.5"x3" FMIC (paid $310)
Log style manifold (AC compatable) ($220)
Deltagate Waste gate (paid $190)
TurboSmart RFL blowoff vlave (paid $160)
Blue top DSM 450cc injectors (paid $120)
Custom mandrel bent stainless steel downpipe (also AC compatable) (paid $100)
Thats almost $1500 worth of new turbo supplies!

One last thing for now. You say he recieved it on 2/27. Then that means he has had it for 2 months and he just now finds out "oh, its warped". I call BS on this guy. Sounds like your friend is the scammer. And for your information FedEx wouldn't ship it because of an oil stain. They called after it sat there for a week and told me that they couldn't ship it because it was leaking oil which was actually only a stain from the header that I bought that came in that box. Yes I admit it was shipped 2 weeks late on my friends part do to me being out of town.

prolly someone at the place fucked up and just welded continuosly. when u weld continuos, no matter how thick the material. it WILL warp. been there... done that. probably what happened, some people can see it with their eyes... some cant,

I'm wondering why the flange is cut, what looks like all the way through, on the inside runners. TO me that suggests something is a little off. Maybe I don't know everything about welding a flange but most that I have seen didn't need to be cut. It's possible that the manufacturer welded the two inside runners then welded the outside runners afterwards creating a warp/bow effect bc they don't line up.
Now considering that the warp makes it 1/4" off WOULD be noticable to the eye. However we still dont have pics from ami to show us exactly how visible this warp is and if it is indeed 1/4" off.
I would think that if its not too bad then it could probably be taken to a machine shop and milled to level the surface.

I would think that if its not too bad then it could probably be taken to a machine shop and milled to level the surface.
well thats a log style manifold, i've been thinking about making one myself, what it is, is the 2 inside pieces are a T pipe, then u have the 2 outside 90's. i know a place out here called boost motorsports sells everything to make ur own manifold which is what i'm doing, which is what i think this guy did but fucked up horribly and didnt distribute the heat evenly

She is saying it is a full 1/4" off though. That is plain to spot. Like I said to begin with. I have yet to see pictures of this so I don't see why she should have even made this post.

here we go scammer....
You say the turbo is not as described?
I have pieced together a complete turbo kit minus IC piping. All parts are brand new and never been used on any car except the injectors! (only one injector is shown, but have all four)
you claim you and your friends had the parts in your hands many times. you never once mentioned the turbo didn't bolt to the exhaust mani. matter of fact your excuse is: "I told you that it was probably due to them using two different T28 flanges." something you told me AFTER it got here, AFTER i sent you a pm about it. you must be STUPID if you are going to sit here and claim you didn't notice this before you sent it....
http://www.4thgenerationcivic.com/Dad/dan_001.jpg
must be why all the parts are sitting next to each other and not matched up in his pics.
i also notice none of your pics shows the side of the exhaust mani that meets up with the head...how convient for you. :disappoin
both edges of the exhaust mani are warped. it is 100% impossible for my friend to have over torqued it.
a) never been installed
b) he would have to be incredible hulk to tighted the inside bolts so much to make the outside corners bow
one side:
http://www.4thgenerationcivic.com/Dad/dan_004.jpg
other side is much worse:
http://www.4thgenerationcivic.com/Dad/dan_005.jpg
closer pic:
http://www.4thgenerationcivic.com/Dad/dan_006.jpg
the "new turbo" was previously used on another vehicle...this is a pic of my dirty finger after touching the inside:
http://www.4thgenerationcivic.com/Dad/dan_013.jpg
notice: that was another side of a part that doug conviently didn't take a pic of.
whoever was the genious that installed that turbo crushed the threads on the exhaust side. yet another problem my friend has to deal with. you can see it easiest on the back post:
http://www.4thgenerationcivic.com/Dad/dan_009.jpg
you should be thanking me for only requesting $150 back. you LIED and SCAMMED my friend!

Um not trying to take sides but i can clearly see the poblem. You purchased the t28 flange and automatically assumed it was the right size/fitment. You figured that how could a company lie or sell bad parts. You never installed it on the turbo/manifold so you sold it as the correct flange automatically assuming that! Then when it was tested, bam! there is the problem!
I do understand taking a while to ship items. Life is busy. Heck for me i work full time and go to school full time and only have sundays off, so its hard for me to ship things. I believe kris hit pretty good on the knoch in the seller threads!
I understand both sides here and i think you both should just go in 1/2 way on a new flange, call it a day, make up, and get back to the good ole days!

there is more than a flange problem. the other pics didn't pop up. i just fixed them.
it is the flange that is obviously off, exhaust mani that is warped, turbo that was used....all supposed to be 100% new perfect parts.

Hey as far as I knew the turbo was brand new. Never stuck my finger inside and to me it looked new. As far as the turbo no matching up I never put them together to check. Held them seperately, but never matched all the parts up.
You asked how I "conv" didn't take puictures of the head side. Why would I?
Anyways, like I said I have contacted the place I got it from to see what they say. It looked straight to me, but your pictures show it off. You get all offensive and act like you are so pissed yet you just now post proof after posting the thread with none.

now go ahead and tell us again how you and all your many of friends were holding these parts that you didn't notice were dirty used, don't bolt up, and are warped...and how my friend over tightened the exhaust mani and my friend is trying to scam you.

Okay...
Seriously doug, don't even say that you ordered all these pieces seperately over the course of 2 years, and didn't check them to see if they matched up. Nobody's trying to say that you "sit and play with your parts all day putting them together wishing they were on your car", but I'd be way surprised if you didn't at least CHECK the fitment briefly. Especially since you said that you and your friends have held and inspected the parts numerous times, at least ONE of you would have noticed the difference in the turbo flanges, a detail that wasn't in your post when you advertised these items.
As for the warped turbo manifold flange... I think you probably would have noticed that too, and if FedEx fucked it up, you can be that whatever box it came in would've shown some serious damage, and anyone with half a brain wouldn't have signed for it on reciept.
Sounds like Ami has done everything she should have in this issue by trying to contact you multiple times about it before starting this thread. Now, I don't know you personally, but I've known Ami for several years and met her in person a time or two, and I can tell you she's not a scammer...

yes and no... yes because the manufacturor made the manifold... they should have checked it for warpage but they didnt. however, it is also dougs fault because he sold it to Amy under false pretenses.. saying it was a "kit"... last time i checked... everything in a kit was supposed to work 100% together... he should have check to make sure the turbo was the right one for the flange. if he was gonna use it he would have checked it as soon as he got it incase there was something wrong... hell... i know i do it. everytime i get someone online or in a store. as soon as its out of the box, i inspect it to make sure it is 100% good and not broken! so IMO Amys the victim here, she got ripped off... well.. her friend

either way, this "new kit" has several obvious problems that were not in the description, most of them my friend can address. the exhaust mani on the otherhand is going to take money to replace or fix.
even if my friend sends him the exhaust mani in exhange for $150 my friend is:

-out the shipping to get it out of here
-out the extra money he's going to have to spend to get a good exhaust mani shipped here
