97 outback overheating

HI,
I have a 97 outback that has been overheating when I drive it over 20 miles. Today, when it happened, I got the car back to my garage and I checked the top radiator hose. It was quite hot and swallon. Then botton hose was hardly hot and felt like it had no water in it. When I checked the radiator cap, it was not hot and when I opened it, there was no pressure as if the coolant was hot. However, the overflow container was full. I have replaced the thermostat but it did not solve the problem. I have looked for the indications of a head gasket blown. I see no leaks on my garage floor after I have driven the car less than 20 miles. When the car does overheat, I have antifreeze spray on the driver side of the engine and then I will get the leak on the garage floor. I have checked the oil dipstick for antifreeze and "foam" but have found none. I drained the radiator and found no oil in with the antifreeze. I'm at a loss. Any suggestions as to what could be the problem? Water pump? Radiator since there was no pressure when I took the radiator cap off of a overheated engine. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
