I have a 98 windstar that has had the check engine light on for a while. I was wondering if there was ANY way to check the codes without a scanner, or some other tool. Maybe with the key on-off on-off trick.
Thanks,
Michael

If you have an Auto Zone near you, you can go there and give them your credit card to hold while you use their OBDII Scanner to get the information from your car. Take the codes back into them and they will tell you what they mean. From there, you can decide whether it is something you want to fix yourself or whether you should just take it to a shop. There may be other auto stores that do this, but the only one I know of is Auto Zone.

If you get the codes read at Autozone post back here to confirm what they actually mean, Autozone has a bad track record of telling you what the code means or how you should fix it.
