Door Ajar

Well a couple of weeks ago I noticed my left sliding door power lock worked intermittantly. Then yesterday The Door Ajar light stayed on. I looked at the 4- spring loaded contacts and they were oxidized. I remember reading about people sanding them or something but being an electrical engineer I decided that was not a very good idea as one does not know the thickness of the contact. I used #0000 steel wool which is a gentle abrasive which worked very well and I wanted to share this with fellow Windstar owners. Another trick from electronics is to clean contacts with an erasure. A pencil erasure at first and if that doesn't work try an ink erasure which has pumice in it.

These low abrasives are the less agressive way to restore good electrical continuity.
