I just replaced a faulty IAC On my Windstar 98 3.8L After replacing it my check engine light did not go out on its own. Does any body know why? Does it mean my PCM is going bad? Does it take so many cycles? If any one know let me know. Thanks

I replaced the Idle Air Control in the parking lot of Auto Zone. When they told me they couldnt reset it because it was Illegal. I went for nice drive to the next auto zone. Well it was sunday And AZ closed at 6.... that was a 20 mile drive plus 4 cycles at about 6 miles each

disconnect the negative battery cable and tap the drakes and let sit for 15 min. see if it comes back

The light will go out on its own after a few OBD11 drive cycles if the problem has been fixed. I doubt you have given it enough time as the short drives are probable not enough of a drive for the PCM. You can also remove the negative battery cable but this will cause your PCM to loose its "learned" parameters. (It will relearn them in a couple of drive cycles).

What code did you have originally? How did you conclude that you need an IAC controller?

I didnt get a code at first. It haD failed a ohms test that i conducted when doing this test i may disturbed it more. Went to restart it afterwards I had to use gas to start it and to keep it running. After a few minutes it triggered the code p1504. I pulled battery cable and its off and hasnt come back...thanks Ps the van is running better since replacing it....my idle was acting up. you may read my story on "Another question abot Windstar 98" Thanks
