window jerk

ok help anyone my driver side window rolls down like an inch then just completely stops and continues to roll down and jerks constantley is a pain in the but to mess with any way i can get it to roll smothly ???
my uncle told me something about taking a flat head screwdriver putting like a lil vasoline on the tip and pressing it in there??? would it work

I bet you had tint in there, and it was takin out. Right?

Does it work better when its real hot outside, if so this is definitely the problem.

Your best bet it to use windex and clean the very edges of your glass to remove any left on glue,(like where it is under the felt). If someone took out the tint themselves, chances are that they did it from the inside with the window rolled up. Instead of inside the door with the glass down.

I have the very same problem but its with my manual windows, it sticks about an inch down, then I have to push on the back of the glass to get it to start rolling down again.

Never had tint, are you the original owner?
Does it move forward and back slightly while studdering?

I should've asked but assumed that they were auto windows because "they stop then stutter", not they're hard to roll down (implying that you roll them down)

Anyway, This is a problem I've had, which is what these forums are all about, I was just trying to help you out with a suggestion...

Another possibility is that your window gear has broken off some teeth or is coming off the track,
You may still want to try cleaning the edge of the window glass in case they have grime/grit makin them stick,
and try pushing down on the back of the window glass when it sticks, does it move downwards a little then roll down fine?

If this doesn't help, try your uncles suggestion, same thing I've said, except he is adding lube, and I'm removing glue. Both will help you to have it roll down smoother... and if your uncles suggestion doesn't help, then use mine to remove the vaseline

sorry i'm late. i have never heard of the vasoline/screwdriver trick. i would just take off the door panel and look. however i am think there may be a TSB on this. i'll check tomarrow.

I have this problem with my power windows when i first bought it last year, but only on the front, the back roll down with ease, and all 4 are tinted. weird. and it does a better job of going down the warmer it is just like mysatilac says. it doesn't bother me that much; i just kind of deal with it til i have the energy to see what the problem is and i guess it's pretty sad if all i need to do is clean it (doesn't take a lot of energy to do) but i do remember seeing a post a while back on this being a TSB problem for saturns like sierra says but i never really followed up on it.

Be careful cleaning it if you still have tinted windows...

i too have this problem with my saturn (1996 SL2 4 door) only drivers window. it rolls down about 1-2 inches then seems to tilt forward or backward (i don't remember which) then damn near stalls as it goes the rest of the way down very slow. i currently have bigger problems though so i will tear into that in the future... mike.

No tint either...

I went out and cleaned the hell outta the inside of the window last thursday

Took a credit card wrapped in paper towl, soaked in windex, to the very inside front and back of the window where it is under the "weather stripping", Also sprayed the windex on the window and kinda scrubbed it in with the card/paper towel

I then proceeded to spray everywhere the window touches with a heavy layer of silicone lubricating spray (all rubber, plastic, and everything else)

Granted it hasn't been real cold outside but I had the problem in any temp. Just alot worse in cold, but I watched the stuff come off of the window, and I have not had ANY problem, stall, jerk, studder, tilt, etc. with the window,
I mean it was perfect Like A New Window, and cost me what like 20 cents for the windex, paper towel, and silcone spray that was used

I was pissed at myself for not doing this earlier, because I knew what the problem was... :rolleyes:

So I again ask you to try it before you dismiss it and look into more expensive or complicated procedures

Take the door panel off, if its something with the window assembly behind the door you will never know until you look :)

Mine tilted forwards and stalled before I cleaned it (had to push on the back to straighten it out and continue), it is because the adhesive at the back of the window catches while the front continues trying to roll down,
But as I mentioned I fixed the problem completely,
There was no problem with the internals of the window

If you guys want your windows to work, try this first.

I had this problem as well.

The solution, like sierra said, is to take off the door panel. The problem lies in the plastic clips that hold the window onto a straight bar that raise/lower the window (I'm only talking about manual windows here).

One of the plastic clips broke, making the window a pain to roll up and down, it will also cause that jerky foward/back tilt with the window. I fixed it temporarily with an adhesive (Super glue) but it broke a few days later.

I'm still looking for some type of adhesive that would be strong enough to permanently hold it in place. Any suggestions?
