anyhoo, Metallica being my absolute favorite band by far, i have a few favorite songs, casue its just hard to pick one.
My fav. for this week is Fixxxer, Fade to Black, One, and The Unforgiven.
Mostly any very bassic songs go top on my list (that's why im a rabid fan of Load and Re-Load, which a lot of people hate. Hmm.)

Ehh.... black sabath , jay-z , some of my local underground stuff , dre , snoop , wu tang (36 chambers!!!) i like nice hip hop , but not that new comercial "pimp shit" , i also love some stuff like nirvana , led zeppelin , i like almost all types of music , minus disco/dance/pop shit and country... Sometimes i just put something like eurytimcs "Sweet dreams" in the system in car , pump up the volume , roll windows down and go in town... i get really funky stares from pepole then... of course about the eurytmics i do it just for a joke , but i love to see pepole's faces looking at me.... :finger:

Does anyone here actualy like any real music?
or are you all just victim of marketing? and like what ever others tell you is cool?
All I see in this thread is the same boring bands listed over and over again. Bands that will all be hasbeens in 5yrs, bands that were all chossen by producers becasue they have nice catchy simply lyrics and the music is very easy to play. no talent required. all the bands have just the right image, and notice how many of them sound and look the same?
They have one purpose, and one purpose only, making money off of those stupid enough to think its good music, so they buy it.
The only excepction I have seen listed is Metalica, but even they have had to succomb to writing mainsteam songs to become famous.
Thier whats called sell outs.! (puts on very very very heavy flame proof suit :uhoh: )

well maybe I am a victim or marketing, but then again I don't really care, I like what I like.
And I have my favourites, but I pretty much listen to everything. If I like the song I'll listen to it. It doesn't matter wether it's "commercial" or not.

Adema - The way you like it
Bad Religion - Sorrow
^the two im listenin to right now
i also like linkin park and alternative stuff
and i dunno moppie, when i listen to the radio if its not catchy i turn it. Success doesnt mean someones sold out. Sure metallica has, but a bunch of people can like something without it being sellout, unless its pop, all pop starts out sold out.
Anyway some of the best stuff comes from the unsigned local bands

Metallica hasn't sold out really. They made good music, and now everyone downloads it. Too bad they are pissed off about it. :D
I don't think it's fair to say that we only listen to what we are told is good. I like Linkin Park, so do a lot of others. That does not mean I was told to like it.

Can't simply narrow it down to 1 fav band or song. Tastes are too diverse.
Learning to fly - Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.
It's going down - The executioners and Linkin Park.
Before the storm - Darude.
Momentary Lapse of Reason - Pink Floyd.
Killing in the name of - Rage Against the Machine.:smoka:

Well if i remeber correctly, they were called sellouts in '96 when they released Load not because everyone loved the music, but becasue its what THEY wanted to do, THEY wanted to cut their hair. People call them sellouts for cutting their hair, i call them "being out of the 80's", they call them sellouts cause Load and Re-Load sounded different from Master and Justice. Now i dont know about you, but my idea of sellout is mor along the lines of continually cranking out thrash albums that all sound the same, not making fun music, music that you like.
as the great Jason once said "Yeah we sell out <claps his hands> Every seat in every show we do."
Thats one of the big reasons i really love Metallica, becuase their attitude is "you dont like the music? then <bleep> off and don't listen to it. We aren't here to satisfy you."
which is the reason why i hate it when people say "older metallica". theres no such thing. Its all Metallica. If you dont like Fixxxer, even Mama Said, listen to it a couple times, really LISTEN, and you'll realize that yes, its different from Master, but its still musically awesome. I don't know why people are so afraid of change. You think Metallica would still be around if instead of trying something new, they just cranked out another Justice? and another? and another? with lyrics getting tired, using the same daamn riffs just in a different order? I like The newer albums in some ways a lot more than the older ones (because they let Jason do something other than pount the E string and occasionaly hitting an F#)
Napster? Oh get off it already, we all knew that was going to happen eventually, and if you aren't over it by now, you need to get a life. That isn't even an issue.
Yeah, so theres my essay, sorry if i talked in circles, but that's the only way i know how to. :)

my only problem with the more recent Metallica is that the rest of the band are no good at playing country, which is the way James seems to be leaning (at least, on all of the stuff I've heard since Load). James is great at writing, playing, and singing country music; if he released a solo country album, I'd buy it in a flash. But grafting Lars' lumbering drums behind it, and Kirk's very constructed Satriani-ish solos, and Jason's pounding bass onto the songs just - to my ear - doesn't work.
Just my take on it. :)

So, Moppie... Exactly what do you listen to (obviously Pink Floyd)?
I personally don't care if a band "sells out". If I like the way the music sounds, if it elicits some form of positive response in me, I'll listen to it. I agree that there are quite a few band out there that sound the same, and I believe that alot of them are engineered to sound a specific way. That doesn't mean I can't appreciate the music. It just means that I'll probably get sick of hearing it pretty soon. Musical taste evolves over time, thus the constant redefinition of popular music.
I know this is the typical answer, but I love everything. But I do have my preferences...
Lately, I'm into Incubus, Hoobastank, and Disturbed. I love classic rock, rap, alternative, ska, punk, techno/trance, folk, blah blah blah. I own 600+ CD's, and the collection exhibits a wide range of taste.
Anyways, musical taste is subjective. I find that when I'm in a happy mood, I listen to poppy music that doesn't require me to think about anything. It just makes me feel like I want to dance and have fun. And when I'm feeling down, I listen to more emotional music that may have some sort of theme, and I'll think about how the content relates to me.
My 2 sense.

An extremly wide variety of music, but none of it is Hip Hop, and none of it is rap. And its all ORGINAL. Nothing made from sound bites of other peoples music turned into samples and repeated over and over again becasue the "artist" is unable to actualy create thier own sound.
As for pop music being reinvented, Thats crap. It hasnt changed much since the late 50s when it was invented. All That has changed is the increasing use of electronic media to create it, the increased exploitation of its audiance, and the decreasing age and increasing sexual nature of its performers.
But the one thing that makes it pop music, the one core of its diffinition has remained the same. It's designed for the sole purpose of making money. If you happen to enjoy listening to it, and derive some form of emotional stimulation then thats good, but by buying it all you are doing is reinforcing an industry that buy its very nature of exploiting people is immoral.

It sounds like what you're saying is that electronica can't possibly be considdered an artform... I just disagree. Combining technology with music is only a natural progression, and doing so doesn't say a thing about the creativity of the individual. I've heard some AMAZING electronica music, even sampled stuff, that must have taken a long time to get right. I, myself, have a digital recording studio at my house with several Synths, drum machines, samplers, mixers, etc., and I can tell you from experience that nobody can just sit down and push a button and have music come out. Try listening to someone like BT, who is a classically trained musician who graduated from Juliard (one of the finest music schools in existence), but he chooses to record electronica, and is damn good at it.
The same thing goes for turntableists... Sure, it's sampled riffs or sound bytes, but it is an artform.
Now, I'm not telling you what music to like or dislike, I just think you're extremely close minded by categorically excluding specific genres of music. There's alot of hip-hop/rap acts out there that don't use samplers and stuff... For instance Shooty's Groove is all instruments/vocals. So don't limit yourself.
