try under the other side, there is like a gold colored plate that covers it w/ 4 nuts holding it down (10mm), you can't miss it when you find it

it should be on the floor on the pass side, the only other place i can think of would be in the dash on the pass side, doubt it though

No it's still on the passenger side (the left side). Maybe it's on the side near the console, and not near the door? :dunno: See if you can find where the wires go through the firewall and follow to where it goes.

OK still cant find it, lifted passenger side carpet as far back at the seat, its a very tight space but could not see anything like a cover with 4 screws, or under that foam padding, tried the driver side, not in main part of floor, all wires coming in that side from engine, some go along drivers side to rear of car, others go to the console but still cant find the ecu!

Ok there should be a plate in the center of the front passenger side. This is probably a bad expanation, but it almost looks like an upside down dust pan. Here's a pic of where it should be (only on the left side of the car): http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v473/CivicSpoon/ecu.jpg Also where your check engine light is.

ok, totally stripped my carpet back on both sides, and the padding, nothing that looks like that picture, all there is is red paint and like a black protective layer in places, nothing under the padding either, looked behind the console aswell, now the car has a fuse for an ecu but if i remove it the car will still run ok, also there is no check engine light,
the only wire that come from the engine go in the drivers side, then a branch of them comes out and goes to the passenger side and back out to the engine, the alarm was connected to one connection but there are 2 others which where never connected to anything

can you post some pics of what your looking at. Where do the majority of the wires go thru the fire wall from the engine bay. Try and follow them.

Well I cant see anything at the back of the dash, nothing that looks like that picture before anyway, There are some cables going down the back with the speaker wires but i think they just for the rear lights, ive tried tracing the main cable that goes in from engine area but it branches to the fuses, to the back and then back to the alarm but there are also 2 other connectors which are free, similar to the one that connects to the alarm and with fuses before them, two 10amp and one 7.5amp, whats really annoying me is if the car mightn't have one why is there a fuse for it?
Does anyone know where i can find out if it actually has one, or does anyone have a similar car?

a carbed engine does not have an ECU, or a check engine light because it doesn't need it, the carb controls to the fuel and that's about it. I think it has something called an ECM or something that runs the relays for electronics in the interior...not sure, but no ECU.
