Hey guys, have 91 civic dx 1.3, have noticed for awhile that there was a ticking coming from the engine, usually i only heard if for awhile after start up until it ran for a bit or when it was at the normal temp after driving for awhile, now i hear it most of the time like in 1st second and sometimes 3rd untill driving fast, also sounds like a bit of a rattle and increases with engine speed but the loudness stays the same, any ideas on what i could be? the engines got 131,000 miles on it most of it stock so i guess its kind of worn at this stage, is this something i should worry about?

Adjust your lifters for your valves and see what ya get after that, get a repair manual for your car and it will give you torque specs and a how to on the job, you might want to replace the valvecovergasket after you get them adjusted just so you don't have any leaks after putting the valve cover back on. Good luck

I have the same issue with my car (D15B NON-VTEC)

It doesn't tick when it's cold, so this could be just something out of adjustment, and not a bent valve? (bent valve would suck, motor is only a year old)

Check The Haynes Manual, Or Any Other Manual, Its Called Valve Clearance Check And Adjusting, It'll Require A Feeler Guage, A Flat Head Screw Driver, And A 10mm Open Wrench.
Greenblurr93(QOUTE)yep i recommend the Helm manuel. Honda uses them to publish all thier OEM service manuel. go to www.helminc.com to order one.

If You're Mechanic Charges To High$$$, You Can Always Adjust Them You're Self. I'm Pretty Sure Theres A Write Up On It, If Not It's In A Haynes Manual.
