OK, well my sisters were driving the 2001 Saturn L-300 i believe it is, anywho, before they left i told them to get it fixed, it had a weird whining noise comming from under the hood every time they accelerated. Well, knowing them, they didnt, and proceded to drive 250 miles and broke down...figures.
Anywho, the alternator and water pump were shot. Got those replaced for a little over a $1000. Now im driving the saturn, and it started to get hot today, turn on the AC, and it never gets cold. So i go to the saturn dealer, and he says the compressor is broken, and all in all with the compressor/labor and some other things, its gonna cost me around $1400 dollars to fix. 1st of, any way the water pump/alternator breaking could have caused this, and second of all, its this at all likely and/or reasonable price to get this all fixed. I think he said like 600 for the unit and 300 for labor, with some other parts that need to be replaced with it.
Thankx

there are a few parts that are replaced standard whenever the system is opened. kinda like replacing your oil filter every time you drain your engine oil.

without knowing the exact cause of water pump/alternator failure i can't say if the compressor is related, but since they all are belt driven nearby each other, it is possible.

depending on dealer mark-up and your local labor rate, i don't think $900 is that bad, its a little high, but within reason. remember that recovering, recycling, evacuating, and charging the R-134a will be needed
