Willimo, I can try and get my hands on a digital camera from a friend. Count me in :ylsuper: I'll try and find more interesting place to bring the Civic if it arrives Malaysia.

Coun't me in to. Tulsa,Okla. maybe I can send it to okiemodelbuilder if he likes only a few miles away from me. Are you not worried that something might happen to it. should there be insurance in the shipment just in case? Have camera will travel.

Ha! Cool and hilarious idea. I'd join in but I live in the middle of nowhere and there are no famous landmarks that I could take a photo in front of. Still, I'll be watching the journey. :)

yeah, but part of the fun is seeing the towns that have no famous landmarks, Wagga has those huge arse silo's don't they?

BTW: i'd love to be involved, but i probably won't be able to afford any overseas postage........ but i'd willingly photoshop the car into a pic of my backyard or somewhere interesting in town.

RallyRaider
04-05-2005, 10:42 PM
kansei, the silos are more out west in the wheat belts. However, if the model makes it to Australia I guess I could come up with something. ;)

Just a suggestion:

1) Why not putting up a map of the world and update where the Civic is and update it everytime it reaches another member.

2) As for the shipping, in order to minimize the cost, why not map the movement so that it will travel from one country to the next nearest country. Eg, I'm in Malaysia, after I've received and take photos of the model, I'll post it to other AF member in Singapore (if any of them are taking part in this "tour").

3) Each AF members who is taking part in this event should treat the model as he/she treats his/her own to make sure that the Civic will reach Willimo back in as good condition as possible.

This are just my :2cents:

Sweet, I'm in texas, dallas metroplex, so either okie can send it to me, or I can send it to y'all.

Yeah, this is a great idea. grab a model you have built and shake it up and down rapidly. then count the peices that fell off. this model wouldnt make it to New Orleans through the mail without breaking into bits much less anywhere else. but i guess we can all dream...

One state over that sounds good to me. This might sound crazy but the car might get lonley. Would it be ok if I sent my Integra Type R for the ride? Its sublime green. If its not returned that would be ok with me.

how about we make a list of all the places we've taken pics of the model at (if you understand what im saying) then put that in the package an at the end we'll have pics and a list of places !

Someone's gonna have to put a cut-off time on this otherwise we're just gonna continue talkin and doin nowt! Also, how much a let-down will this be if the first person receives it and the post service has all-but destoyed it?

Tikiman

Can't it be packed in foam or something to absorb the shocks? I'm sure it will survive if packaged properly.

Whumbachumba
04-06-2005, 11:22 AM
We'll use bubble wrap and double box it. The car should be surrounded in bubble wrap, put in a box, have a larger one filled with the packing peanuts and have the car box put in the big box and just send this box around continuously if possible.

mike@af
04-06-2005, 11:54 AM
Pack it like HLJ packs a set of wheels. I box the size of a chair filled with airbags and peanuts for a box that the size of you hand.

this idea still sounds a bit silly but i could take it to Bourbon St. or a Riverboat or on the street car so send it to me last and ill drive it back to you in BR.

1/24 model road trip??
that is a very nice idea. I like to sign up, but too many people had already sign up...so I think it would take a year to go around the world...hope someone will make another road trip.

Sticky Fingers
04-07-2005, 08:51 AM
That's the fun of it though!!! The longer it's out there visiting other countries/places the better. It would be pretty boring and pointless if the road trip lasted a couple o weeks. Get your name down!

I assume we'll keep a running roadtrip "postcard" thread on the Civic, so we'll see pics of the journey while it's happening. It will keep interest up, and everyone will be able to keep tabs on it and where it's going next. Peer pressure will keep any potential slackers on the move :icon16: .

Revell should pick up the shipping tab! Think about it...

I agree with the idea of keeping a world map updated. So we know where the model is and will go after.

And, if the model arrives disassembled or small parts are fallen, the modeler will have to carefully glue them back in place. It's the less we can do to keep the model clean.

Edit: you can start using this for Europe

Red dots mention who's in your list.

Yo deedlit, respect for taking time out to do the map but I don't stay in Inverness. The red dot for 'my hood' should be bang on centre of the "I" in "United Kingdom" on the map.

Aye, I know. I'm a pain the arse!

My red dot should be at the upper right corner of the "E" of Germany. But who cares? Important is that we have an overview, we don't need the exact position, right?

I suggest we start in Estonia, then Sweden, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, UK.

i would like to be in if thats cool. i'm new to the scene, but i have been around for a couple years looking, I'm just starting to get into modeling. I have a mostly completed lotus that i can finish and take pics with.
I live in Winnipeg Manitoba Canada, so if it comes from minisota to me then i can ship it to alberta....

Thanks for the maps, ya'll. When I send it on its way I will start the thread for all it's pictures, that thread will hold the "Where is it now?" map and the master list. I know it's a bit before it goes out, but I still need to paint the plastic sheet and take some pics here (with such a long trip, it will never be back to Baton Rouge since I am moving in August), so it will go out Monday.

I think the map is sufficient to show where the Civic travels. It would be best to mark where the model is with red dots and if the receiver wants to pinpoint accurately where he/she is at, he/she can post another detailed map (a small map) showing exactly where the Civic is. Just a suggestion. :sunglasse

Thatīs a very funny idea! Please count me in, i live in Germany too! :iceslolan I would show your civic our most famous places here in Dresden.

Of course i would take a pic with your Honda in Front of the "Semper Oper".

Well... I don't know in which thread I should "sign in" to receive the Civic, but already wrote in the other one (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=3525478), too.

If it is still possible, I'd love to welcome that Civic here in Portugal.
