I know some of us on here have had trouble taking out the stereo.
I did try the nails and others items first brought up on this forum but the easy way was Advance auto had the tool it was siver looks to be stainless still removel tool that said on the package for most fords. It cost 4.25 its has a tapered ends that looks like a ball point pin at the tips of them.I think this is the key because when I put the tool in it clicked and would not go any further.I pulled to the sides at the same time pulling towards me and it came out with no problems. So 4.25 is a small investment and less stress on pulling out the radio. I hope this helps some of you out there that ran into this problem before. I will try to find a pic of the item because there are different ones out there and pass it along. I do not have a cam to take pic but may just take a reg cam and scan it to my cpu and post back on here. Later,Gary

If you go to this site they have the tool that was just like the one I used. but it was 10.95 and thats too high, but gives you an idea on what you are looking for. Hope this helps,Gary. If you have any questions let me know.

I made my own tool. I cut a coat hanger and bent the wire to the "U" shape. Works like a charm!!!

I've been using the coat hanger trick for a few years now. Beats paying between 4 and 10 bucks for one. The $10~$12 wiring harness adapter though is a God-send on these newer cars.

WELL at the time- did not know the coat hangers would work, but I did try other suggestions with out any luck. I will say if you plan on taking it out alot, which from other problems people are having with the winstar its better to have the right tool for the job.I did learn one thing, the pin head type tool that I have takes alot of guess work out and comes out in 2 seconds. If i do loose one I guess I can try the coat hanger. gary
