Passlock Anti-Theft Problem

Is anyone else having a problem with their Impala, causing you to have to wait about 10 minutes to start your car. If so what fix is needed for this?

were you in an area that was cold when u tried to start your car? Sometimes the temp will mess with it. My girlfriend had the same problem, she has a 2004 saturn ion and she told the dealer and they replaced it for free. Have you tried a dealer yet?

it has happened both in cold and warm temperatures.. usually on the average of like 1 time a month, which isn't horrible, but still annoying as hell when it happens. I was told by a couple of people it was some sort of short in one of the ignition components, but not quite sure which one.Then once the computer resets after like 10 minutes, it starts just fine....

yea check out the saturn forums they may have a solution i know saturns seem to have a big problem with it.

it sounds like the ignition. I have the same problem with my 01. kinda expensive.

I've got some good info from a guy on this forum. When he emails me back I will let you know. This si the removal procedure for the ignition

REMOVAL PROCEDURE
Disconnect the battery ground (negative) cable.
Remove the steering column filler panel.
Remove the knee bolster bracket.
Remove the instrument panel (IP) cluster trim plate bezel.
Remove the ignition switch bolts. IMPORTANT: The Passlock(TM) electrical connector cannot be removed until the lock cylinder is removed.
Lower the ignition switch away from the instrument carrier. Insert the key into the ignition lock cylinder. Turn the key to the run position. Depress the detent on the bottom of the ignition switch housing in order to release the ignition lock cylinder. Remove the ignition lock cylinder.
Disconnect the electrical connectors from the ignition switch housing.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
Connect the electrical connectors to the ignition switch housing.
Install the ignition lock cylinder into the ignition switch housing. Turn the key to the OFF position. Remove the key. Position the ignition switch to the instrument carrier.
Install the ignition switch bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the ignition switch bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

Install the instrument panel (IP) cluster trim plate bezel.
Install the knee bolster bracket.
Install the steering column filler panel.
Connect the battery ground (negative) cable.

Is it just a new ignition switch you had to get or something more than that? About how much did it cost you to repair so I know how much damage to expect.... Thanks again

The part I was told runs about 76.00 and that's from the internet. From the dealer it is about 300. I Haven't been able to do it yet but will need to real soon as we are about to have our second child and I don't want my wife to be stuck.

Taking a car to a shop always results in the "kind of expensive" area.
