Should I Spray The Civ?

CivRacer95

Marshalls parents and Jons parents are going to reimburst me for our little dilemma in Vegas. I'm actually going to see them later today so they can pay me back. So that's $500 Bucks in my pocket. And also, my tax returns are coming pretty soon so that's another $900 to pocket. So my question is, should I spray the Civic, and then save up for a new motor, or should I keep saving and not worry about Spraying for now? I'd like to use up as many miles as I can on the Civ, preferably take it up to 200K. Right now I'm at 146K. So there's 54K left on this D16. So what do you guys think should happen to my Civ? L8...

Spray? why? is it dirty or is it that it smells bad?

If your gonna spray wash it then be carefull not to use too much preasure! it can tear the paint right off.

if its odor problems then yeah, i like the new auto fabreeze, highly recomend it.
:)

Nos is all good and all but how much more would you need for the turbo kit? or are you for sure gonna swap out the engine? in which case why waste it on a turbo kit. I just dont think you should throw it away on N2O, send the money to me untill you figure out what to do.

Booyaah.

I may be wrong but I think he means spray as in "get it painted."

Absolutelly not, it would be wasted money, you cannot do a big shot on such a small engine and will make you only slightly quicker. Plus all it takes is one tuning mistake or a hickup from that old fuel pump and boom.

Save your money for a proper engine/turbo upgrade or even a new car. Or blow it on the new PSP, i just got one last night from that Game Stop in Springville right by the Wall Mart. I think that is about the last store in utah valley to have them.

and i case your're wondering: Yes a PSP will make your car faster.

My sister just barely bought one. She's a fanatic with Nintendo stuff. I've been playing it all night. It's pretty sweet while she's been sleeping. I already wore out 1 pack of batteries playing it .

Yeah, I figured I would get those responses from a lot of the guys here. Well, if that's the case, I could just upgrade the fuel system. New filter, regulator and fuel rail from AEM. But that would put me down a couple hundred bucks. I don't know if that will be worth it to me. But with my rescent upgrades, things have been pretty fun. I still haven't raced the old mans 3K GT, but soon. Whenever I can meet up with him :).

My plans for a new motor are going to be either a 2nd Gen JDM B16A with 170 hp. Or a B18C1 with 185 HP. Each will put me around 2K just to buy them. But I'm thinking of the B18C1 as my option. Either way, new life is what my Civic is going to need soon. I'm very confident this motor will last me another 2 1/2 to 3 years as is. It's 10 years old to date. Then again, in that time I could save up plenty for a new car as well. Who knows what I could do in the future. As long as nothing goes wrong with the car. L8...

Just noticed this, but yes you are very wrong . By spray I mean use Nitrous. I've already gotten a paint job about 4-5 months back. But don't feel bad, it's alright if you didn't understand. And welcome to AF! L8...

I'm with Neutrino...the motor will last longer, without it...and I'd say keep saving for a new motor or turbo. Nitrous will be fun for a bit, but when the novelty wears off, I think it would be a waste of money in your situation.

Nah fuel upgrades will put you even more in the hole. And even with a good fuel system and perfect tuning, your engine is old and you might blw the welds of that intake. And well all know that can lead to floor panels coming off. That would be really bad.

Yeah, that's very true. I've heard of some people saying they spend tons on just filling up the bottle. And then others said filling it up doesn't cost that much so it's more enjoyable and cost effective than forced induction. How much does it really cost to fill a 10lb bottle anyway? L8...

Dammit, we just hijacked my thread .

Tell me how you get 185hp outta the b18c1 motor. To my knowledge, the b18c1 is the motor in which integra GS-R's come with. This motor is 170 hp, not 185hp. The next closest thing to 185 is the b18c5 which is 195 horsepower.

I thought that i should bring this to your attention because it would be a shame for you to get it and than dyno only to find out that it makes 170hp.

As far as the JDM B16A goes, its great for an all motor engine, however the B18C makes all of its peak torque and hp sooner than the B16A.

You'll have to excuse me for that comment. I am still barely awake this morning. Like I said earlier, I've been playing that PSP all morning long. I confused the B18C1 with the B16B motor from a Civic Type R. Which is another motor which I considered for the time being (that has the 185 HP). But you are correct about the GSR motor, and that is why my decision leans toward it further. Just depending on when I get the money, and what I want to do when the time actually comes. L8...

IC Ic...when the time comes i'm sure you'll want to get into depth a little bit more, but for now, i think that the b18c1 is a good motor to go with.

Stop wasting money on the D series engine. I think I remember seeing that you actually bought a header and a cam for it in your signature a while ago, with some other stuff. Why spend money on mods for a weak engine (power wise) with no potential when you are going to swap it out anyways. Unless those mods can be swapped over to the B series engines.

Buy a B18C1 that will need to be rebuilt, so it is cheaper. Bore it out to 2.0L, build it, boost it and tear up the streets with your 400whp Civic.

Shouldn’t this be in the Civic forum?

Why do you always seem to be so negative about things? We requested this Forum so that everyone from the street racing section (including all the racing forums as well) could post non specific threads in here. I wouldn't get too great of a response from the Honda guys, maybe some, and I also like to include the SR forums regulars on everything I do.

And besides, every motor has potential to it, it's my car, and beating any car that used to be faster than me with this so called "weak" engine is quite the accomplishment. So like I said, every motor has it's potential. But thanks for the advice about the B18C1. But I wouldn't want to waste my time rebuilding, boring, and all that. I'd rather have a complete engine, with less mileage (like 35K) to last me much longer.

As for the whole K swap, I don't want to do that because there isn't too much of an aftermarket out there for it yet. Plus, I've heard it's more expensive for the motors themselves. The B-series motors have a vast amount of aftermarket, and that's what I want if I am going to swap in a new motor. Plus some of the Aftermarket K-series engine are too expensive at the time and the cost for any B-series items are half of what it is for the K. L8...

This is still a Honda specific question. There is a Honda forum just for questions about Hondas. Just because this is named "non-specific" does not mean it will accommodate anything. Threads like youngvr4's about debt, Slowprocess' thread about his chick (which he seemed to delete) and Chevytrucks92's thread about the upcoming racing season are all threads that don't belong in the Street Racing forum, but don't really have a specific home.

At least that's how I view it. I'm not a mod, and have no power what so ever over anything.

I didn't mean to insult your D series engine. You asked for opinions on adding some spray to your current engine, so I gave you my opinion.

Like I said, I keep the SR guys informed about what I do. It's just a question about what I should do with my car. This is what this new forum was made for. The SR forum is intended for posting races or vids showing races.

Read this section:
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=380142

Thus you'll see entirely why this forum was created. That's why I posted this here. I know the rules and where this should go. Thus that is why it was posted here and not the Honda forums. L8...

If i remember correctly, another thing to point out with the K series engine is that the compression ratio is higher. Therefore you could boost the B series a little bit more without doing any extra engine work too it.

I know that your not quite ready to do a swap yet, but you might want to consider the B18B engines, that come in the Teg LS', the engine it self isn't as powerful, but has a lower compression ratio than the B18C1 which would furthermore allow you to up the boost/psi if/when you turbo. The downside that i have heard most often is that the LS' tranny has long gears.

I remember the jet powred celica, as I recall it didn't go all that fast lol.

As for the civic in question, I say save your :2cents: and buy a second gen Stealth RT-TT and do a 99' front end conversion along with a 3000GT spoiler.. you know you want to have a faster and better looking car than your dad right? lol.

Edit: I think the second gen RT-TTs can be had for 6k, the 99' front end is real easy with the stealths and will run you about 1k, spoiler will be less than .4k and paint can vary widly, then you have somthing very good looking fast and highly modable for 8k, I would have done somthing like that if I didnt love the VR4 and all its goodies so much lol.

B18C1s dyno at around 140-150fwhp. A 400fwhp civic is no good at all. All that is is just a huge traction problem. You want about 280-300fwhp. Now that'd be a nice civic right there.

My opinion: Save for the turbo, and when the engine blows, get a built D-series bottom end or rebuild yours, probably bored out to 1.7 or 1.8 liters.

I would agree with what most everyone has said, don't bother adding N2O to this engine. Personally, I wouldn't waste any more money on it if you just plan to do a swap. I would say save money up and buy your B-series motor and do the swap then just go crazy.
