Reverse problems

My 1993 Saturn SW2 has a slight problem in reverse. I read the cure for the Reverse Slam. Has anyone tried this? We have been babying reverse. If we wait several seconds it will go into reverse on it's own. Then post I read said change the tranny fluid and filter. Put parking brake on back it up to a solid object and run the car at idle in reverse. Do you keep the parking brake on? Any input on this would help. At this point we have not done anything with it. Our mechanic says may make things worse if we try it.

Doing the procedure is a last resort for the reverse slam. Some people have found it to work, some have found it to work and have the problem come back in a few months, and some people have had it not work at all. It all depends on how long it's been doing this. If you've waited too long to try this, it may be too late.

:2cents: I'd try it. I realy don't think it would hurt anything. Drum brakes do not hold well in reverse ergo the solid object. It won't make a difference if the car can't move. So do it either way.
Good luck and let us know.

finding a brick wall is better then the hand brake. i have not done it myself. but if you follow the directions to the T as they say you shouldn't have any problems. i have heard several people say "the cure didn't work!" "did you follow the directions?" "well, i did change one thing...." right.... there is only one way it can be done. i also would not call this a last resort. i call it a quick fix. replacing the valve body/transmission, thats a last resort. i know it sound weird at first and thats probuilly why your mechanic didn't think highly of it. but i can ensure you the Wolfman is a wizard when it comes to these things and the science behind it is solid.
how ever, keep in mind if you are also slamming into drive gears that is a whole different problem(loose input shaft nut)
